So Ben roped Amy into being in a band with him and "Childish Intentions"
.
"Childish Intentions
" didn't really fit in with the other bands in Little Rock, Arkansas, as one they had a female singer, and two there were only two types of music there - Death Metal or Oldie type music.
With their inspirations put together, Amy and Ben realised that a lot of their music tastes were the same - Danny Elfman, Bjork, Tori Amos. The two started to write songs, and soon after changed their name to "Stricken
" before changing it again to "Evanescence" rumor has it Amu wrote "Solitude" for Ben, Ben then wrote "Understanding" to impress Amy, Amy then wrote "Give Unto Me" to say 'ha ha! you suck, i can do better!" then Ben wrote "My Immortal".
The two then decided to create an EP, and by the end of 1998, they had made 100 copies and released them at a concert they did and they all sold out.
So Amy and Ben decided to create another and sure enough at the end of 1999, "Sound Asleep/Whisper" had 50 copies made again released at a concert and sold out.
Little Rock was loving Evanescence.
Along this time just before the EP was put out, Amy and Ben invited friend David Hodges who was a pianist into the band.

By 2000, the band was bored of doing EPs and decided to put out a LP. Months down the line came "Origin", which was very well recieved, that well recieved in fact that while stopping in a hotel a Wind-Up records representitive was walking past the bands hotel room and heard "Origin" playing and put his head around the door. He and the band got chatting and Amy gave him a copy of "Origin" to take with him, he told them he'd be in touch.
Months later, he wasn't. Evanescence had given up hope. But all the while, Wind-Up were trying to contact the band to tell them they'd got a deal. Finally, they found contact, called Evanescence and told them to go away and write new songs. Which they did.
By 2002, the band had wrote for all what would be there debut album "Fallen", but the company were placed into a tricky situation, they needed something to promote the band. One day, Wind-Up got a call from the producers of a film called DareDevil asking if they'd got female fronted rock bands,
which Wind-Up had.
So Wind-Up sent the producers some of their demos and the producers instantly thought that "Bring me to life" would be great. But they soon fell in love with "My Immortal" and decided to use that too. But they needed something Evanescence didn't want - a male rap vocalist in "Bring Me To Life". Knowing this would probably be their only break, Evanescence gave in and Paul McCoy (12 Stones) stepped in to do the part.
Around this time, David Hodges (Pianist/Keyboardist) left through artistic differences.
On March 4, 2003, "Fallen" was released and reached the UK charts at No.7. On June 2, "Bring Me To Life" was released, going straight to No.1 in the UK charts and spending 4 weeks before getting knocked off by "Beyonce's - Crazy in Love".
In the Summer of 2003, John LeCompt and Rocky Gray joined the band as guitarist and drummer, andOn 22 September, "Going Under" was released. In October, the band were faced with tragedy when on the eve of a sell-out European tour, Ben Moody left without a word to anyone. Amy was determined they wouldn't cancel a show... and they didn't. They gave all Ben's parts to John and they come through. On December 8 2003, "My Immortal" was released.
In 2004, Evanescence were facing a problem, they had to find a replacement. The band were very close friends with Terry Balsamo (Cold guitarist) and not much was happening for Cold, so Terry decided to join Evanescence. The next time Amy, Ben and David met was at the Grammys on February 8,2004 when the band won two Grammy Awards for "Best New Artist" and "Best Hardrock Performance".
The band then released "Everybody's fool" on 31st May 2004. Around this time it was revealed that Amy had been dating Seether frontman Shaun Morgan and the two would collabarate on a track called "Broken" which was released in August 2004.
The band then put a DVD out on November 22, 2004, titled "Anywhere But Home", to keep the fans happy while they wrote their new album to be expected in the fall of 2005.
One of the band's rarer songs "Breathe No More" was to be put on the soundtrack for DareDevil spin-off "Elektra" and it was also revealed on January 17, 2005 that on the 23 of the same month the band would join a group of other artists to record a track for charity towards the Tsunami appeal.
