Acknowledge the Legacy... Restore the Dream!

Now, as you all know, EPCOT Center's 25th Anniversary is coming up this year. And so far, what are Disney doing... adding in the Three Caberlleros to El Rio Del Tiempo, but that's about it! Epcot should return to it's original glory as EPCOT Center. Bring back the Dreamfinder, & make new attractions along the lines of Horizons, & World of Motion, EXPAND Future World!

Jeff Pepper from 2719 HYPERION started a blog post on this, & proves very interesting.

"Since I started 2719 Hyperion this past September, I've steered clear of many of the more controversial issues concerning the states of the various Disney theme parks. While I have very strong opinions in regard to many of these debates and discussions, I resolved early on to keep this site more focused on celebrating the rich heritage and history of the Walt Disney Company. There are a number of excellent blogs that specifically address the Disney Company's management of its parks, most notably Re-Imagineering, EPCOT Central and Passport to Dreams Old and New. I have long followed and respected their articulate and insightful commentaries, and the subsequent discussions they inspire.

But I read something today that has at least for the moment, transformed me from passive chronicler to angered activist.

In
comments made to Deb Wills of AllEarsNet, Epcot Vice President Brad Rex said " . . . that although 2007 marks Epcot's 25th anniversary, there was no big celebration planned, although there would be private observances behind-the-scenes for cast members."

Yet another nail in the coffin of the original vision of EPCOT Center. The park continues to suffer an identity crisis so severe that's its own management sees no need to celebrate its unique and wonderful legacy of forward thinking idealism and international cooperation.

It deserves much better.

Since Disney has obviously decided to not acknowledge Epcot's 25th anniversary in any truly significant way, it is up to us, the passionate enthusiasts of Disney culture as represented by web sites, online communities, podcasts, forums and blogs, to engage in a celebration of our own making. In the future weeks and months leading up to October 1, 2007, the rich legacy of EPCOT Center will be featured on 2719 Hyperion frequently and prominently. And I encourage my fellow bloggers, webmasters and podcasters to do the same. And I welcome all who so desire, to make use (non-commercial, please) of the anniversary logo I have created.

At the very least, we can acknowledge the legacy. Maybe in some small way, it will help inspire the current or future stewards of Epcot to restore the dream."

Epcot 25th Schedule

I've came up with the plans for the EPCOT Center 25th Anniversary Celebration for my podcasts, the attraction order:

An Update: I've moved forward Spaceship Earth because of the refurb it's receiving.

  1. Journey into Imagination
  2. Wonders of Life
  3. Horizons
  4. Spaceship Earth
  5. Universe of Energy
  6. Communicore
  7. World of Motion
  8. The Land
  9. The Living Seas

I'm not sure how long this is gonna last, but it's sure to be just swell! And as well as being on the Everything Disney Podcast, we'll have tributes to them on the Everything Disney Resorts Podcast, & also video (video tributes) on the Everything Disney Video Podcast!

25 Years of Creative Wonders
Greetings Disney enthusiasts!

On October 1st, 1982, a new theme park dedicated to a vision that Walt Disney never saw completed. This new park, dubbed as E.P.C.O.T. Center displayed visions of the past, present and future for all ages. While many of the attractions that debuted with the park have been upgraded, altered or removed, the spirit of E.P.C.O.T. Center lives on in the current state of the park that became Epcot. 25 Years after its dedication, Epcot is still famed for its awe inspiring combination of entertainment, education and inspiration.

On October 1st, 2007, Epcot will celebrate its silver anniversary. In honor of the park’s 25th year of bringing wonder and magic to the world, fans now have the chance to gather in the park to celebrate this momentous occasion. Whether you are a veteran to Walt Disney World and Epcot or a person that brings their family to share in the resort’s magic, this event is meant to show that Epcot is a park that has affected not only one generation, but many. Earlier this year, Brad Rex (Vice President of Epcot) announced that there would be no official celebration for the park’s anniversary. Because of this, we are stepping in to give the park a party that no Disney fan will ever forget.

To mark this special occasion, fans can gather at EPCOT on October 1st , 2007 at 10:00 a.m. on the E.P.C.O.T. Center logo embedded in the walkway behind the Fountain of Nations. Anyone is welcome to join us in this special celebration to honor the park that has served as inspiration for all ages. If you plan on attending, we ask that you show your support by wearing your Epcot clothing and memorabilia (as long as it doesn’t violate any park rules). This does mean that costumes will not be allowed. October 1st, 2007 will be a day of celebration for the park that has given so much to the world!

Join us as we honor Epcot’s past and prepare for its future by kicking off its next twenty five years with a bang! We hope to have you with us as we celebrate this once in a lifetime event.
