I saw numerous sites designed to give readers of various stories visual images of what the author imagined their characters to be. I've been blending coverart for my stories for a while now, but since my fanfiction, Safe in My Arms has become so popular (or what I would like to think is popular ^-^) I've decided it was time to make one of these little sites so I could show all of you the various actors/people I thought would look best in the roles of my characters. What is Safe in My Arms?
Safe in My Arms, is a Lord of the Rings fanfiction about a young woman, Victoria Knightengale, whose older brother was killed in a riding accident and who, through mysterious cicumstances, ends up in Middle-earth. For someone not having any knowledge of that world, Victoria manages to survive pretty well in a place that she's never heard of before that has elves that live forever and a forest filled with orcs and spiders as big as an elephant. She falls in love and even manages to keep her sanity until the day that darkness prevails upon the forest of Mirkwood, and the people she grew to love are slaughtered...and she is blamed for it.
Safe in My Arms is basically action/adventure/angst with romance thrown in here and there. It also evolves into something of a Legomance...though skirting the edges of a Mary-sye which become inevitable when you write 'girl-in-Middle-earth-stories', I pride myself in my efforts to avoid the mary-sue trap and to make a rather enjoyable read. Safe in My Arms is rated PG-13, or T, for violence and some adult themes (no sexual content). The link to the story itself can be found on the main menu above under the 'Story' link. Do You Like Orlando Bloom in the role of Legolas?
I have a mixed opinion. While I did enjoy some of his performance in the trilogy...sometimes his acting came off a bit wooden...and he was personally a bit too grim for me. As a reviewer that I've had some rather interesting discussions with stated, "He's a bit grim...and I thought the twins were suppose to be the grim ones. :)" So Orli didn't do too bad...but I also didn't get the impression of strength and wisdom that Tolkien gave the Prince of Mirkwood in the books. So while Orli was all right here as well, I prefer my imagination and will probably host more book art of Legolas if I can find it...and movie art when it suffices.
Aren't there enough Legomances in the world without you adding to them?
Too true I'm afraid...and all together quite sad since I've only read a few Legomances that actually give Legolas the credit he deserves. He wasn't a prancing pretty santa elf...he was brave, curageos, strong, loyal, wise...all qualities I admired with reading the Trilogy and I'm altogether afraid that people miss as they write their fanfictions. I try to read as many fanfictions as I can...but one can only do so much. Legolas was a great character and he left alot of female Ringers with a opportunity for romance being as he never hooks up with anyone in the end. Combine that with a touch and hotness and...wala! Legomances are born. I try not to critize Legomances too harshly because I know most are just fanciful results of raging female teenage hormones...but I will crack down hard on any slut that I see. Legolas was an elf! Not a pimp. Elves have honor and respect for love...it isn't a one time thing...it's a life committment. Well... that question is hard to answer. :) Ever since I was little I had an overactive imagination... it's one of the reasons I can't sit through horror movies. First time I saw signs I thought I saw aliens in my bedroom window. :) I get ideas for stories all the time... and it wasn't until I was 13 that I realized I could actually write about them legally, hence my fanfiction was born! :) Mostly I get my stories thinking about what would happen in a particular story if I were in it... which is the main reason most of my fics feature orignal characters. But basically... I just let my mind wander... constantly. If you think long and hard about something long enough- it will appeal to you to start writing about it. :)
