~BIO~

By now most of you will already know the story of how the band was formed

- In 1994 Ben Moody heard Amy playing Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love," and convinced her to join a band with him. They were at summer camp, and it was during a recreational period that they met. Ben literally ran out on a basketball game to go meet Amy, who he spotted across the crowded room.

Amy says she liked going off to the corner and playing the piano at camp to avoid attention.

But ben always says:

" YOU WANTED ATTENTION!"

"I didn't want the attention of a counsellor coming up to me and being like, "Are you okay?

You don't have any friends!

Let me buddy you up with Chris and you guys can hang out!'"

So when Amy and Ben were 13 and 14, they had already formed Evanescence , they went round each others houses and wrote music together. They started writing music together, and had even written

"My Immortal," which shows up on their disc "Fallen".

The version on "Fallen" was sung by Amy when she was just 19.

However, they faced many obstacles in their attempts for success. For one, their music didn't fit in with any of the other local music in their hometown of Little rock, Arkansas. "Most of the music there was either hard death metal or really soft rock, like old person music," Ben says. Evanescence's dark, epic rock didn't seem to fit in.

Another problem was the fact that Amy wasn't a guy.

"I don't think there were any other bands with female lead singers," Ben says of the music in Little Rock.

"No one cared how many people were in the band, just that one of them was female."

The other main issue they faced was money - or lack, thereof. "It was just friends and local musicians we'd hire, and we'd either give them dinner or twenty bucks to come and learn all eight of our songs," Ben says. Even though they only played twenty dollars to fellow musicians who stepped in to help them, they could only afford to play a maximum of two shows a year.

When they did play shows, Evanescence sold their first two CDs, a self-titled CD, and one entitled

"Origin."

Very few copies were ever produced, and the only place to find them now is on online sites. Ben and Amy, however, are urging fans to download the music instead of paying hundreds of dollars online.

A year or so before their big break, David Hodges left the band. Hodges co-wrote several of the songs on "Fallen" and had been friends with Ben and Amy for years. Although neither Ben nor Amy will comment on why he left, it's speculated that Hodges wanted to focus on strengthening Evanescence's ties to the Christian market, and direction Ben and Amy didn't want to go.

In late 2002, Evanescence got a break.

Fox, the company behind the movie "Daredevil," heard some of their music and asked them to headline the "Daredevil" soundtrack. By January of 2003, they were busy shooting a video for their first single "Bring Me To Life," and by February, when "Daredevil" was released, "Bring Me To Life" was all over the radio. It made it into the Top 5 on the Billboard Charts and became the #1 single in the uk their latest single " going under " is already climbing the charts fast, and they have now done a video for that. " My immortal is soon to be released.
