Interview with Isabelle

First of all,I'd like to thank Isabelle for this interview! Also,I'd like to wish to her good luck in the Malta song for Europe 2007 and I hope to represent malta in the 52nd eurovision song contest!
Here you can hear the song, that Isabelle will compete with in the Malta song for Europe 2007

1.As we can hear from your song, you have a wonderful voice. From which age do you sing?

I've been singing since 8 years old. I started to participate in weekly singing competitions in Malta and I can say that the very first competition I took part in, I placed 2nd, and I never looked back from then onwards. Singing is something that became part of my life, my soul. I see singing as a means to express myself :)

2.Have you released any other albums before?

Yes, actually when I was still 15 years old many people asked me to do a compilation of songs that I had. And we decided to put 12 of my songs from my repertoire on this CD. I have to say that it went really good with Maltese people. Then, in 2004, as I was going to Romania once again to sing there, I prepared a demo CD with 6 songs and these CDs were distributed there.

Then in 2005, I launched my first CD Single "Be My Butterfly", lyrics by my brother Keith Zammit, music by Augusto Cardinali and produced by FreeTime Productions. "Be My Butterfly" was an experiment...Style - dance-pop - a style which I never had sung before. But I have to say that it was another success especially on radio stations abroad, especially in Australia. Also, it was amongst the TOP 10 on Broadjam.com , with 7th being the highest placing obtained. Broadjam.com is a website visited by many people in the music business : agents, talent scouts, A & Rs, producers...

3.How did you take the decision to take part in the malta's song for Europe and why?

Well, in Malta it's the biggest event and it's a GREAT opportunity for us singers to show our talents there. Malta Song for Europe is very important for people in the music business in Malta. Every Maltese citizen will be watching the show every year... It's something that every Maltese awaits for from year to year. So, it was also my decision to try and take part in this grand event. Last year I made it amongst the 50 semi-finalist from 213 submissions, but this year I managed to be amongst the final 14 from 228 entries. These were all judged by foreign judges. And then we had the final 16 with 2 joining us from another competition called "Opportunity 2 Challenge".

4.Which was your reaction when you learned that you are in the participants?

Well, when I got to know that I'm amongst the 35 (because from 228, they were down to 35 first), I was really silent at first. Let me explain to you what really happened. A great friend of mine from Bulgaria, Elly, texted me on my mobile phone and told me that I'm amongst the 35 and at that moment I was in the kitchen with my mother. I just stared at the cell phone and didn't utter a word to my mum because I thought that Elly was just joking with me (as usual hehehe). I ran to the computer room and checked the Maltasong.com website and saw my name and THEN I started shouting and telling mum and making phone calls, because we weren't supposed to get the result by then. The result was out before. A day before actually.

Then the preperations started for the 2nd phase, were the 35 songs were going to be performed in front of another panel of foreign judges. This time LIVE, on a proper stage and in a Hall. Well, the performance went really good. I could see that the judges were enjoying themselves with my song and performance, and that helped me more to sing it from my heart.

Then that evening, the results were out at around 9pm on TV during a TV programme called "Showtime ma' Aceline". I was waiting for the results, wondering whether they will publish the results beforehand on their website but they didn't show up. But when the results were out on TV and when they called my name I just screamed (forgetting all about taking care of my voice) and I cried with happiness...Then for the next 2 hours e-mails, phone calls and text messages didn't stop. It was like a dream come true. Because as I have already said, Malta Song for Europe means a lot for us singers.

5.Do you think you will win?

I believe in my song, and I'm well-prepared for the 1st of February. Everything is coming pretty good. I'm excited and can't wait! Well, I think that each song in the Semi-Finals got a chance to win, and I think that "My Love" also does ;)

6.If you will go to Eurovision, what do you expect?

If I win MSFE, I will expect more busy time than I already have heheheh. Preparing for Malta Song for Europe involves a lot of dedication, and preparing for Eurovision Song Contest would be three times as much I THINK!

7.Which is your favourite eurovision song and why?

Well, one of my favourite songs is "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi" from ESC 1988, when Celine Dion represented Switzerland and won the Contest. Why? Celine Dion is a great singer with a magnificent voice. She's my idol actually Hehehe. I also used to study French, and always dreamt of singing a song in French, in fact, I sang this song in various occassions in public.

My parents heard about it and thought it would be a good experience for me
and I of course totally agreed!

I love singing and performing live, so it was the perfect opportunity for
me, also in Greece, there aren't really any shows or competitions for
children, so I jumped at the chance!

3. Did you write the song for someone?
It’s generally written with other children of a similar age to me, who may
be going through some difficult teenage ''moments'', but also it is for a
friend of mine.

Yes, I would love to be a singer in the future, the reason being I love
every moment that I am singing and I couldn't imagine myself doing anything
else!!

I think it’s a good position, but I don't really put a great importance on
the position.

They are varied both musically and culturally! I think each one reaches us
in some way!

songs when I'm at home and the fact that I sing all of them says something
for each of the songs!
