Aromatherapy - Essential Oils

Welcome to my Aromatherapy World...

Aromatherapy is an ancient art which began its re-entry into the modern world in 1920.  A French cosmetic chemist, Rene'-Maurice Gattefosse', Ph.D., had an accident while working in his laboratory which resulted in a third degree burn on his hand and forearm.  He plunged his arm in a vat of lavender oil, thinking it was water.  To his suprise the burning stopped.  Over a period of time, with continual application of lavender oil, the burn healed completely without a trace of a scar.  The chemist analyzed the essential oil of lavender and discovered it contained chemical properties that healed.  A key agent found present in the plants resin which is important to sustaining and regenerating, was OXYGEN.

Currently,  many people throughout the world are studing the vast dimensions of Aromatherapy.    The interest is growing dramatically as the benefits of essential oils are becoming more widely known, not only in the everyday household, but also in the scientific world as more and more research is being done and becoming available to the public.

According to the translation of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and chinese manuscripts, priest and physicians were using oils thousands of years before the time of Christ.  There are 188 references to oils in the Bible.  Some precious oils , such as frankincense, myrrh, galbanum, rosemary, hyssop, cassia, cinnamon and spikenard, were used for the anointing and healing of the sick.  Additionally, biblical prophets recognized the use of essential oils as a protection for their bodies against the ravages of disease.

Essential oils are distilled from herbs, fruits, flowers, roots, seeds, leaves, grasses and other plant life and then applied in a variety of ways to achieve amazing health benefits.

Essential oils are sometimes referred to as, "The Gift of Nature".  Not only do they effect our moods, but essential oils have been found to be anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antiseptic and antiviral.

Good scents make good sense.  Our sense of smell controls our behavior in many ways.  Think of things that smell pleasent to you... how did you react?  Now, think of an unpleasent scent...  how did it effect you?
