News: Jun 22 2004 - The UK TV Times (#26, June – 2 July 2004-06-23) has an article entitled "CSI Spin-offs Out of Control?" The article said that while on a recent visit to England, Marg Helgenberger "told Insider that she's not happy that CBS has made another spin-off of the show, called CSI: NY. Especially with it coming so soon on the back of CSI: Miami." Marg is quoted as saying "'It's getting more and more challenging to maintain the quality of CSI because of these spin-offs. If we could keep the good writers and good technicians on the original show, we could do it – but our main writers are splitting their time to work between shows." As to CSI, Marg says that "'They refer to us as the "mothership. That's why we need to keep raising the bar.' (Thanks to Else on her site)

Jun 22 2004 - The newest issue of Emmy magazine (#4, 2004), includes a feature story on the comics spun off from television series. Jeff Mariotte, editor-in-chief of IDW, the company that publishes the comics adaptation of CSI among others, is interviewed. The article also features the cover from the CSI comic "Bad Rap" and a two-page excerpt from the same. (Thanks to Else)

Jun 22 2004 - Sad news. Director Charles Correll Jr., 60 years old, died June 4 in L.A. of pancreatic cancer. At the time of his death, he was in the middle of shooting several episodes of CSI and CSI: Miami. He began his career as a camera assistant working on Jack Webb's Dragnet series, then progressed to camera operator on shows such as Kojak and Columbo, and won an Emmy for The Winds of War. He was also cinematogapher on films such as Animal House, Revenge of the Nerds II and In God We Trust. He moved into directing, on shows such as Without a Trace, Law & Order, Seven Days and more, as well as telefilms such as MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday, Mother of the Bride, and more. He is survived by two daughters, a son, and two brothers. (Source: Variety)

This great dramatic series, created by Anthony Zuiker, is on Thursday nights at 9:00 PM ET/PT on CBS TV. CSI revolves around a team of Las Vegas forensic Crime Scene Investigators who solve crimes by studying the evidence. Heading up the 'graveyard' shift is Gil Grissom, senior forensics officer at the Criminalists Bureau. His team consists of Catherine Willows, a single mother trying to juggle both parenthood and her job; Nick Stokes and Warrick Brown, who are always competing to solve their cases; Sara Sidle, a bright young CSI, and Captain Jim Brass, the homicide captain who once worked Forensics. Assisting them are lab tech Greg Sanders, medical examiner Dr. Robbins, and Sgt. O'Riley.

CSI is now seen worldwide from the USA to Asia, and stars William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, Gary Dourdan, George Eads, Jorja Fox, and Paul Guilfoyle.
