Top Story Akron just sent 14 new graduates to start fighting crime, but city officials say they need to fill up the classroom again. Givens says there are currently 479 police officers, but he's authorized to have 487. Factor in retirements or resignations and he figures they need to recruit about two dozen new trainees. Givens says the recent shooting death of Twinsburg Officer Josh Miktarian or the shooting of Jeffrey Stephens by Akron police won't have any impact on the rush of applications.
"I don't think so," said Givens. "I think if a person has a desire for public service and law enforcement they'll apply for the job."
You have to be between 21 and 31, have a valid driver's license and a high school diploma. Givens says applications are due August 20th. ______________________________________________ Local Headlines
