So what does a writer read when she's not writing? Good question. Here's the answer, consisting of a list of favorite places and authors. Starting with,
Archives:
The Sandlot- Where I got my start. Chock-full of many authors, lots of characters, and all ratings. Spike-centric, as you might guess. The only problem is it doesn't get updated as often as I might like.
The Crypt- Again, lots of good fics, all ratings, Spike-centric. It's hard to find a bad fic on this site, and the hostess does a bang-up job of updating regularly. A great place to go browsing.
Vampire's Kiss- Same applies. Great place to browse, and the hostess regularly does rounds of awards, which are fun. Great layout and a place to find a lot of stories that just don't appear anywhere else.
Death-Marked Love- Hils has some great stuff of her own plus a very nice collection of other authors. I've spent many happy hours browsing here.
Authors:
The best way to find good stories is to find a great author and read everything they've written. Here are some of the authors I've done that with.
Speaker-to-Customers- His site is full of good stuff from G-NC-17. As one of the few men writing BtVS fanfic, he has an interesting point of view, and his stuff is just a lot of fun. I recommend all of it.
Miss Murchison- "Chiaroscuro" is one of the best Spuffy stories ever, but when I want a little Spike/Tara action, I turn to "Quick and Bitter, Slow and Sweet." It's all good, however, so dig in.
London Calling- The Serpentigena Sequence is just brilliant, and includes my other favorite, Wesley. Plus, the Giles/Spike adventures by Lori are a lot of fun and also include Wes. Try both. You'll like them.
Are there more, you ask? Absolutely. I've probably forgotten something really important. It's happening a lot these days. If you think I've done someone a horrible disservice, let me know. I'll try and correct it pronto.
