First Due Wreck - with Entraptment
In the early afternoon of December 23, 2007, Engine 19 was dispatched to 2900 Nelson St. SE for the Bravo injury, possibly involving a MPD officer. While responding down Minnesota Ave., Engine 19 saw a large police presence and police waving in the area of Randle Circle. Simultaneously, the call was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident involving MPD. Engine 19 investigated the situation and found an MPD cruiser that had collided with a minivan. The cruiser was badly damaged, and contained two officers which were priority 1 Traumas. This led to the full rescue assignment being dispatched for people trapped. Due to the severity of the driver's injuries, the crew rapidly extricated the patient and requested the assitance of Eagle 1 to airlift the patient out. While the driver was being packaged, Squad 3 arrived and took the passenger side door and removed to roof to access the other officer. The driver was flown to Medstar by Eagle 1, while the passenger was also taken to Medstar by Medic 19.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to both officers and their families. All the members of the DCFD wish them a speady recovery.

E19 Responds on the Working Fire Dispatch, for the Second Alarm Row House
Just after 3:30 this morning units from the District of Columbia Fire Department were called to the 1700 block of Massachusetts Ave Se for fire coming from a house.
When units arrived on the scene they encounter heavy fire showing from the roof area of a two-story rowhouse..
With the possibility of the fire extending to other rowhouses in the block, Battalion Fire Chief R.M. McClafferty of the second battalion requested a second alarm to be transmitted brining over 75 more firefighters to battle the early morning fire.
According to . McClafferty, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control with 15 minutes, with no injures reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation

First Due House - Heavy Fire Showing
On 11/9/07 at approx. 1PM, the DCFD received a call for a report of a house on fire in the 3200 Blk. of O St. SE. Enigne 19 responded 1st due on the box, and arrived simultaneously with Truck 16 to find heavy fire throughout the first floor of a one and a half single family home. Due to many surrounding companies being on other calls, Engine 19 extinguished the bulk of the fire before any other Engine companies arrived on the scene.
Once the fire was extinguished, and overhaul was complete, F/F Prob. M. Petz was found to have minor burns of both forearms. We all wish F/F Petz a speedy recovery, because the members of Platoon #1 will go hungry without him.

Basement Fire
At approx. 3:15 PM on October 16th, Units were dispatched with the 2nd Battalion Chief for smoke coming from the house at 814 49th ST N.E. in Company 30's first due. T17 arrived on scene first with smoke showing from the first and second floor and made an aggressive search for the reported victim in the house. E27 arrived and protected the stairs from the heavy fire in the basement so the Truck could safely complete a search. Engine 19 (second due Engine), layed out to the rear and stretched their 400' line to the basement. Even though some companies were out of position and obstructing the basement entrance, and the attack line burst, Engine 19 made an agrressive attack and extinguished the bulk of the fire (contrary to others statements). Once the bulk of the fire was extinguished, the Engine crew swaped out the section of hose and helped check for extension and hit hot spots. Engine 19 cleared a short while later to swap out some sections of hose and protect the citizens of the District of Columbia.
