Emulators are programs that have been created to mimic the NES console
many of these emulators are reverse engineered and are under constant revision
and bug fixing. Others do not have many features or only work with one type of
games.
Here are some features to look for:
- Custom Keys settings - can you change the keys that act like A/b/up/...
- Game pad input - can you connect a game pad to the computer and
make it act like a NES pad
- Emulation Saving - Some emulators can save your position even mid-game
- Full screen - absolute must, gets the real feel.
Here are my recommendations for emulators:
Windows :
FCEUltra - Love this emulator has all of the above
mentioned things plus much
more. Now open source and with a bigger development base this
emulator is going places. For windows get the FCE Ultra 0.98.6
Windows package on the Releases page.
FCEUltra.sourceforge.net
Linux:
FCEUltra - Huh? I thought that it was only
windows. No it is avaliable in source
but you need SDL to compile. To hard to go from source. Try a
google search for "FCEUltra
RPM" for those with RPM support.
For those with Debian there is a package avaliable or try Google.
Macintosh:
Coming soon.
Feel free to email me your seguestions.
