Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord . . . Psalm 127:3

Navigation:

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man: so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5

My Quest for a Tubal Ligation Reversal

Hello, my name is Brenda. I’m a 41 year old Christian mother. I’ve been happily married to my husband David for 16 years. In the latter part of 2002, I was diagnosed with an early stage of cervical cancer. During that treatment, after the doctor had looked at my records, he strongly suggested that I have a tubal ligation. He felt that since I had 3 grown daughters and 2 sons - ages 3 and 13, and because of my late maternal age of 40 that I should have the tubal ligation.

After much pressure from family and the doctor, we decided to have the surgery on January 14, 2003. The doctor said, “God forbid anything would happen to your boys.” What I had not anticipated, nor been advised about by the doctor, was the emotional roller coaster this operation would cause in my life and also the physical effects of a post operative condition known as Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome.

David, my husband, attends school to become a paramedic and works as an EMT when he is not in class or attending practicums.  We taught our boys at home, teaching them not just the academics but also animal husbandry, gardening, mechanics, building, etc.  Some of our fondest memories are of Chance (13) and Dalton (3) helping David build our log home from the ground up, mostly from timber which they felled on our property, even preparing the lumber for flooring, the walls, and furniture.

January 13, 2004 started out as a normal day. After David left for work, Chance, Dalton, and I did school work, had lunch, and went outside to play for the afternoon. After supper that evening, Chance helped Dalton with his computer then they got ready for bed.

About 9:00 p.m., I kissed and hugged my boys and told them how much I loved them while tucking them into bed. I awoke a couple of hours later to a house engulfed in smoke and flames. The fire alarms were going off in the house, but the flames were so bad I could not reach my sons. The boys were sound asleep and didn’t hear the alarms. The Lord took both of our sons home to be with Him in heaven that night. We lost our home and all of our earthly possessions.
