The Emerald Pipe Band

Welcome to the Emerald Pipe Band Website.

Our History

The band was first started in mid-2004 by the Luton Irish Forum in anticipation of having their own Pipe Band for the Annual St. Patrick’s day celebration that they organise in Luton each year. Alex Peters, an experienced Ex-army Pipe Major was hired to give lessons and has been doing so to the present today pushing us along to the best of our ability with his many years of experience. In mid-2006 Rory MacEwan of the Harpenden Pipe band was also hired by the forum to help along with drum routines. Along side Alex he has tutored us up until late early 2007.  We have been lucky in getting a new drum tutor for our drummers named Dave Budge. He's pushed the drummers on in a phenomonal way getting us ready for performances and such.

Over the last 3 years there has been much interest in this pipe band and this has led to a colourful array of characters participating on a permanent basis. The first performance of the pipe band to the public featuring this "array of characters" took place on Saturday 17th of March 2007 at Market Hill in Luton town centre during the presentation of the Shamrocks. This performance was met with great enthusiasm by the Irish community and by everybody that watched. Since then The Emerald Pipe Band has grown and performed on regular occasions in and around the luton area. We look towards the future with great optimism.
