5S
5S is the ideal process to start any company on its Lean journey. It is a process and method for creating and sustaining a safe, clean, organised and high performing workplace.
The term 5S comes from Japan and relates to the 5 words that make the process-
1 - Seiri - Sort, remove unnecessary items
2 - Seiton - Set, a home for everything
3 - Seiso - Shine, clean and inspect tools and equipment
4 - Seiketsu - Standardise, eliminate any non-value added activity with standards and rules
5 - Shitsuke - Sustain, expand the process factory wide
Another S is Safety, this should be a key part each S.
5S will provide a platform to implement and sustain meaningful Standard Operations in your business.
