Literacy
In my view, the children are working on their literacy skills at all times of the day. Not only are they chatting alot, they are reading too, listening to others read and are writing in the conventional way as well on the PC for all subjects. We do spellings as and when we feel they are needed and will be looking at forms of speech in detail over the course of their home education. I always try to assist and guide them with the vocabularly, spelling, punctuation and neatness of handwriting.

Maths
There are many ways to learn the maths needed to survive in this world. We use money, simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, percentages and probably fractions most days. Teaching these areas to children can be made fun by combining maths in cookery, games playing, building simple toys or pet homes, fun (and not so fun) shopping, etc. These section also covers workbooks and the internet as well as everyday maths ideas.
History
History, of course, is all around us. Our own home is Victorian and so we are actually living in history and will, in time, investigate it's own life in our home town. There are just so many interesting historical events to capture one's imagination and with the usual resources to help us along, all topics covered under this heading will certainly be fun to learn about.

Geography
The planet we live on is so diverse. To experience life in other countries to those we know as our birth land would be truly amazing, unfortunately for most of us this is impossible. Children can grasp an understanding of how other countries vary to our own by thumbing through an atlas, studying a map or reading about another place, whether it is close to home or very far away. It will certainly help give them an idea of what is out there!
Science
The introduction page under science will give you an idea of how we started on this subject. K said she'd found science "boring" at school, but by doing lots of hands on experiments at home it has shown her, and B, that in fact this topic is fun and interesting. So far, finding ingredients for our simple projects has been easy (and we've struck up a good friendship with our local chemist). In time, as experiments get more complex, we'll need to purchase a chemistry kit to expand our knowledge.
Cultures/Traditions
In this day and age I feel it is important for the children to learn about their our own traditions as well as those of other cultures. This country, like others, welcome those from many different countries and religions and we must all merge amicably together. The different cultures have varied traditions that are interesting to learn and help us understand the many different people whom we live alongside.
Art
When I was at school, art which involved looking at the works of famous (and perhaps the not so famous) didn't occur until I got into the seniors. As a family who enjoy all arts and crafts, introducing the varied works of others seemed a natural thing to do to broaden our minds and find new ideas to introduce into our own pieces of art.
Nature
Understanding nature is an important part of our life. Witnessing the simple pleasures of nature around us, being aware of the changes in the environment and how we can help to improve our way of life, will help to secure a better understanding of our world for future generations.
