What is it ? This test must be passed before you are legally allowed to drive unsupervised on the roads.It tests your ability to drive safely and perform various manoeuvres | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
How long is it ? The test lasts approximately 35-40 minutes and may go anywhere in the local area (including Dual carriageways).You will also be asked to perform 2 of the following manoeuvres Turn in the road Parallel park or Bay park Reverse around a corner You may possibly also be asked to perform an emergency stop | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
How do I prepare ? It is strongly recommended you take lessons from an Approved Driving Instructor, this can be combined with private practice if possible Your instructor will be able to advise exactly how you are expected to drive and point out any areas you need to improve on | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
What if I have access to my own car ? Your insructor will most likely do all or most sessions in their personal cars,as it will probably have dual controls.If there is somebody willing to go out with you for private practise then use that to re-inforce what you have learned | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Can I use my own car for the test ? Yes,but it must be fully roadworthy, Insured in your name Have passenger head-restraint,seat belt and additional interior mirror | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

When should I book it ? The waiting list in Bristol varies between approx 7-12 weeks,bear this in mind when booking a test,your instructor should be able to advise when you will be ready for a test. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

What happens on the day ? Usually you will have an hour lesson immediately before the test.Which means you will be out for approx. 2 hours Make sure you have your provisional licence, theory test certificate and appointment letter with you for the test | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Any Hints and Tips ? Ensure you have all your documents ready the day before your test. Get a good nights sleep,and if you have an early test make sure your alarm is set. Wear something smart but comfortable If you are very nervous about the test consider talking to GP,Chemist or Herbalist about things which can settle your nerves Remember the examiners are humans,not monsters!
