West African Missions

Bringing the Gospel to the World

Let me introduce you to Sister Elizabeth (pictured left with our missionary in Cameroon, Abasiama and his wife Lamikat). I have been so blessed by my association with her. Rarely have I seen such dedication to others and the Cause of Christ. Even though I have never met her in person, I feel so wonderful to have been a small part of her life. Let me explain.

A few years ago, four children were left homeless and orphaned by the passing of their parents quite suddenly. I was informed of the situation by our then missionary, Richard Inyang. I thought it would be a small matter to bring these children to the USA and enroll them in one of our fine Christian Homes. Was I naive. The laws of both coutries were not cooperative in this effort. Richard and his wife Theresa kept these children in their own home. The problem became worse when Richard left Cameroon to live in the USA.

Sister Elizabeth took these Children into her own home. We sent her a small gift when we could. The congregation at Mile One did as they could as well with providing food and other materials as they had them.

Again, recently, the problem worsened. Sister Elizabeth's son-in-law passed away and within a year, her daughter followed him. Sister Elizabeth returned to Cameroon with four more children, her own grandchildren. Now there are eight children living in Sister Elizabeth's home.

I have tried to get the word out of this need. It has recently born fruit from congregations and others who have pledged a total of $180 a month to this need. While this is a wonderful turn of fortune, the need still remains great. I doubt I could provide for eight children with $180 a month.

If you can help in this effort, please consider carefully how you can answer this need.

Sister Elizabeth and six of her eight

orphaned children

excerpt from an email I received from Abasiama -JH

Concerning sister Elizabeth, the widow who says she is fortunate to belong to the Ellabell family, I bring her appreciation to the brethren who have come to her aid once more but in a bigger way. The picture following this mail depicts me handing her own $180 to her. She has been so thankful and happy that through you she is again assured that the God of widows and orphans  has not forsaken her and the "helpless" children. She prayed for your reward now and in the life to come.
