Here is a short list of some of my favorite books and most recent movie recommendation...if you're searching for something to pass time with and come out feeling great, give a few of these a try!
Romance:
Petals On The River - Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
This book had be bawling like a fourteen-year old girl with a zit on her nose on prom night. Woodiwiss delivers a story full of genuine emotion and heartfelt dialogue. Her characters are human, likable, resilient, and their determination to build a life together despite unimaginable hardship leaves one in a state of awe and admiration. A definite must-read for lovers of a well-rounded, thoughtful novel penned by a true master of her craft.
The Jacaranda Tree - Rebecca Brandewyne
I don't think I can recommend this book highly enough. Out of the hundreds of novels occupying the shelves in my garage, this one gets a place of honor. Brandewyne's ability to create characters with depth...characters you itch to know everything about...is simply astounding. The protagonist in this novel drove me wild, and is one of the few fictional men I've ever truly wished I could meet. Not to spoil things, but the end of "The Jacaranda Tree" left me sighing like a love-struck fool. MUST-read.
My Lady In Time - Angie Ray
Ever read a book that had you howling with laughter? This one did it for me, and turned me on to humorous romances. By the time you reach the middle, you're grinning with dark satisfaction - constantly- and hoping you have even half the guts of the dear Lady herself. This book is adorable, witty, smart, and very engaging from start to finish. If you haven't read Angie Ray, get thee to the nearest book store!...:-)
The Tiger & The Tomb - Bonnie Vanak
Adventure. Treasure. Gorgeous hero. Gutsy heroine. A hot setting and even hotter interaction between the protagonists. As far as exciting romances in the "Indiana Jones" vein go, this one steals the limelight. Enjoy!
Other Fiction:
Nightworld - F. Paul Wilson
It takes a LOT to scare me, but this novel downright creeped me out. I read it in two days, cowering under my blankets and casting the occasional, nervous glance around my darkened bedroom just to ascertain no monsters lurked in the shadows. Excellent horror, masterful suspense, and all-around scary as hell!
The Langoliers - Stephen King
All I can say is...one of the strangest, creepiest books I've ever read. The creatures King employs are, as usual, out of this world scary, and he uses them so well, I expected to feel their breaths on the back of my neck at any moment. This novel also answers the unusual question of just what happens to each moment of time once it passes. Recommended!
Most Recent Recommended Movie:
"Click" - starring Adam Sandler, Kate Beckingsale, and Christopher Walken
I notice the previews present this flick as a comedy, but beware...it's not. About halfway through the movie, the plot takes a definite turn toward drama, and things get dead-serious. I wept for a good ten minutes during the final third. It's touching, deeply thoughtful, and draws into sharp focus the beauty of everything we tend to take for granted or wish we could simply skip over to ease our day-to-day lives. As an added benefit, Adam Sandler turns out his first (in my opinion) truly serious performance...and proves himself to be quite the talented actor. Definite must-see!
