See Special Announcement at the bottom of this page. I'ts something writers and readers want to know!
You’ve completed your first fiction or non-fiction manuscript.
You intend to move it forward through an editor, agent, or self-publishing.
Are you ready to know –
- How good of a read it is for readers?
- If there are technical or creative issues you need to take care of?
- If there’s anything you’ve missed?
Why is a critique a good idea (even before it goes to an editor)?
- You’ve looked at your manuscript so many times you can no longer read it objectively.
- You took the bold step of completing your first manuscript, but you know someone qualified needs to read it and offer helpful comments and guidance.
- An editor will have to look at it. You can’t get away from paying for this service, but you can reduce the time and fee if you give the person the best content possible.
I’m Joyce Shafer. Several things my clients appreciate –
- I’m a published book, e-book, and article writer (fiction and non-fiction), so I “get” what it takes to be a writer.
- My eye for technical and creative issues. (I’ve assisted writers for over a decade.)
- That I strive to assist new writers to become better, more confident writers.
- They feel, when I do one of my thorough critiques on their manuscripts, they get even more than they thought they would. (See Testimonials page.)
What does It Cost, How Long will It Take, and What can I Expect?
- It costs $3/single-spaced page. Note: Your manuscript must have paragraphs. Manuscripts written as one paragraph will not be accepted.
- Depending on the length of the manuscript and what’s needed, and my schedule, the average return time is 4 to 7 work days.
- You get as many pages of notes as I need to provide, to help you make it a better read. This includes technical matters you need to take care of, creative guidance, and sample rewrites to demonstrate tighter and better writing.
- Problem areas are highlighted and discussed in the manuscript body.
- Clients receive a gift PDF of Write, Get Published, and Promote: An Easy e-Guide for New and Aspiring Writers.
How do I get Started?
- E-mail me at jls1422@yahoo.com with “Critique” in the subject line.
- A 50% deposit gets your manuscript onto my calendar; the balance is due when I return it to you. I’ll give you instructions for this once we’ve decided to work together.
NOTE: Science Fiction is a specialized writing style I don’t focus on.
