Economicals Ladies

Re-igniting the Legend

Mission statement

There has now been seven years of Women's Rugby at LSE, and the team has gone from strength to strength. In those fine years of history LSE has achieved an undefeated BUSA league win, two ULU cup finals and the most amount of money ever raised by one scheme for LSE R.A.G Week, to name but a few. This season the team has played in BUSA, ULU and the ULU cup and continues to play a large role in the social side of the LSE.

There has been talk of an Alumni team for a few years now, and we believe that we now have the requisite number of LSE WRFC Alumni to make this possible. What an Economicals Alumni team can provide is a fantastic group of like-minded individuals who enjoy the game, entering into a league which plays on a Sunday, at a social level. The team can provide the dual advantages of Rugby and socialising that we all so loved in our time at University. Taking the men's Economicals team as a template, the team will be accessible to all. I hope that there will be those of you who become a solid regular every Sunday, but the team and atmosphere will also thrive on those who wish to play on the odd Sunday and know that when they want to there is a team eager to have them.

I also hope that the ties with the current LSE team remain strong and that every year a new wave of Alumni are made welcome to the team. As with other Alumni teams, having studied at LSE is not a pre-requisite for playing and I hope that you all mention it to friends and collegues in all parts of your life and get them involved.

The aim is to spend the 2008/09 season making our debut in the WRFU leagues. This will take both work and organisation but the benefits are there for the taking. Please keep and eye on the website and the facebook group, we plan a large social to kick the season off in the way we mean it to continue and if you are willing to help in any of the events/admin/organising roles we would love to hear from you.

This time next year, there will hopefully be a large number of slightly tired but grinning ladies, patting each other on the back and celebrating an exhilirating first season.

Fundraising

As is inevitable with a new team, fundraising is needed to get up off the ground. There are shirts to be bought and league fees to be paid. So if you have any ideas, or work in a big investement Bank which needs to increase it's community conscience, then get in touch. Get on the forum and give us some suggestions, no idea too silly. After all, a number of us did get our baps out for rag week....
