What does the Spiral Mean?
|
The single spiral is one of the oldest known symbols in the world. It has represented the concept of growth, expansion, and cosmic energy. In ancient Ireland the anti-clockwise spiral represented the sun.
Ancients believed that energy, both physical & spiritual, flowed in a spiral form. The spiral represents both solar & lunar, masculine & feminine energies. Note that the direction of the spiral can be interpreted as either going clockwise (going within) or counter-clockwise (going out).

The Golden Mean Spiral
|
There is such a thing known as the Golden Mean Spiral, the shape of love itself in the simplest form. This spiral is completely substantiated in mathematics and can be known as a doorway that connects the material world dimension with the heavenly dimensions. Many of the founding fathers of the United States, had a belief in divine guidance, though they did not speak openly about it. They were deeply committed to ancient secret societies and protecting the secrets knowledge of our creation. Today we know it as Sacred Geometry.
These men acquired the knowledge while in Europe their souls having moved from ancient Egypt to the European continent. Whether they realized it or not, their quest to set this knowledge into the foundation of the US was encoded into the blueprint of why they were born and what they came here to do.
It is like a game in which these players came to the shores of a new world to create in the fashion of a pattern that repeats through history - as all things in our reality recycle - based on the concept of time and space - the Golden Mean Spiral of Consciousness - Geometry - a programmed illusions based on the concept of spiral energies or Time.

Djwhal Khul
|
Djwhal Khul through Madame Balvatsky spoke of the spiral in her writings.
Djwhal Khul
Divinity was then present in physical form and the Members of the spiritual Hierarchy were openly guiding and directing the affairs of humanity, as far as man's innate freedom permitted. Now, in the immediate future and on a higher turn of the spiral of life, this will again happen. The Masters will walk openly among men; the Christ will reappear in physical Presence. Another thing that will happen will be that the ancient Mysteries will be restored, the ancient landmarks will again be recognized - those landmarks which Masonry has so earnestly preserved and which have been hitherto securely embalmed in the Masonic rituals, waiting the day of restoration and of resurrection. Buddha and spiral curls
Early images used a relatively natural hairstyle but this was gradually replaced with a mass of 'snail shell' curls turning to the right. There seems no obvious racial, social, or otherwise reason for this. The only reference that I can find is to a story of the time when Sidhattha first cut his princely hair - it sprang into spiral curls and never needed cutting again.

Hawaii

The Nautilus carries the sacred spiral of our human "beingness" into the next level of spiritual and physical evolution. In the now moment it offers us a transformative path into dreaming ourselves "home" to the center of the One Harmonic. The E'mu, the original people of the Hawaiian Islands (and much of the other Pacific Islands after Lemuria's demise--including Easter Island), saw the nautilus as representing the divine vessel which carried the elixir of the soul to be poured out in the cosmic ocean for the journey home.
To the E'mu nea luaki (kahunas /shamans) coral represented the human life: tenacious, yet fragile. Existing in a constant sea of energy, washing and shaping it into towers of stone--living stone, from whence new powers emerged and new generations thrived.
We can easily see how Nature embraces the spiral in many of its forms. A pattern of growth and motion. Compare the Hurricane, the Nautilus, the Pandanus, the Flower, the Expanding Universe, etc.
Depending on your accepted picture dictionary a spiral might read as 'snake ' or mo'o, [lizard], while another individual instantly recognizes the spiral as a representation of the constant unfolding pattern of reality.

The Fibonacci Spiral

Where Imagination And Reality Unite
What I want to focus now is the symbolism of the closing ceremony of the Olympics held on Aug 29. Not as flashy as the opening one, but it was still filled with various multi-leveled 'clues'. The centerpiece was a strange golden wheat field in the shape of a spiral which was 'connected' to the Olympic torch through a long straight causeway.
I don't want to get into it too much yet, but let me point out that this is a rather obvious reference to the 'Fibonacci spiral' - a special shape deriving from something called the Fibonacci squares which in turn are based on the Fibonacci number sequence.
The Fibonacci spiral is often found in nature and even in the layout of the Giza monuments. The latter was perhaps hinted further by one of the traditional dances performed during the same closing ceremony - featuring three fires and a circular shape made by dancers. The term 'pyramids' is etymologically related to 'fire' and thus the three great pyramids at Giza can effectively be represented by three flames...
And, importantly, the Fibonacci sequence/squares/spiral is very closely related to the special number phi, also known as the 'Golden Ratio' (as well as 'Golden Section' and 'Golden Mean'), numerically expressed by the ratio 1:1.618... And here you can see the major justification behind the golden wheat field that formed the spiral. The color is a quick response to those who wonder about it that 'yes, it does represent the golden ratio-driven Fibonacci spiral'.
According to the Technical Director of the ceremony, "The spiral represents the notion of infinity, a form that frequently recurs in nature. Our galaxy is spiral in form."

Mathematics

The Prime Number Spiral (a.k.a. the Ulam Spiral) is constructed as follows: Consider a rectangular grid. We start with the central point and arrange the positive integers in a spiral fashion (anticlockwise). The prime numbers are then marked. There is a tendency for the prime numbers to occur on diagonal lines, however far out into the spiral one goes.

The Eternal Spiral Return
--master motif of the soul's journey--
the path of life--of heart, mind and soul.
From birth to mid-life the spiral moves out, expanding and extending until reaching the mid-point. There the direction reverses and the journey outward turns back inward--the soul back to its Source.
Time unrolls spirally.

Wiccan Spirals

The spiral dance that witches perform in sacred circles demonstrates the concept of As above, So below; mirroring the macrocosmic order of the heavens, the gyratory movement representing the whirling of the stars above the fixed earth. Winding in, the spiral dance establishes the still center within, approaching the hear of the universe, or the womb which will give birth. Winding out, the spiral dance births the Spirit back to its divine source of existence.

The Number 8

The mystery of 8 in the Bible
THE MYSTERY of the 8 is that of eternal and continuous spiral motion, which is constant throughout the universe. The life force currents sweep through the body in the form of a figure 8, following the cerebro-spinal and the sympathetic nervous systems, like radiation's of light. This is why in deep meditation one sees a real light within. The [symbol o0] horizontal 8, means "as above, so below." It is a symbol of power. In Genesis 17:10 the rite and covenant of circumcision was to be performed on the eighth day of a manchild's life. This was considered one of the most important covenants between God and humanity.

The Cho Ku Rei
|
Put in other words: 'Let all the power of the Universe be here' or 'God is here'.
This is the Reiki symbol used to connect with the energy at the beginning of a session, and to increase power/energy where needed during a session.
Further it is used to empower anything you want, like your medicines, crystals, food and drinks, machines and tools you work with, etc. Cho Ku Rei increases the power of all other symbols you use. Another important use of this symbol is cleaning a space or clearing up negative energies, for instance in a bad situation. It can be used for protection of yourself or your properties, because the great amount of light you call in with Cho Ku Rei dispels or keeps away negativity. And it seals in light energy when drawn at the end of a healing.
Sometimes the Cho Ku Rei is drawn opposite with the spiral clockwise; this is a matter of preference. The symbol works with either way of drawing.
