ROGERS: I'LL HELP PLOT UPSET - 1/12/04
|
Martyn Rogers is convinced that City can spring another
shock to move a step closer to a money-spinning third round tie against
a top-flight side. Tiverton rattled Rovers in the opening 10 minutes of
their first round encounter and were inches away from establishing an
early lead after hitting the crossbar. But they were eventually beaten
3-1.
According to Rogers, the key to success centres around
City's ability to cut off the supply route to widemen James Coppinger
and Michael McIndoe.
Rogers
declared: "Exeter have got a good chance and it will all come down to
who takes their chances on the day.Doncaster
are a compact and organised side. They are strong across the middle and
they have two widemen in James Coppinger and Michael McIndoe who like
to play football. Exeter must stop possession getting to those
two because if you don't they can hurt you; if you give them time on
the ball they will cause problems. It's a massive game for both clubs.
I always think the second round is 90 minutes away from a massive pay
day at Old Trafford. I wish I could be there to watch this match
because I reckon it will be a cracking game."
Rogers
said his troops flagged during the latter stages of their first round
outing as Doncaster turned the screw on the Southern League Premier
Division side. But he feels that Exeter's full-time status -
allied to a vociferous contribution from the home fans - could prove a
key in what promises to be a rip-roaring encounter at St James's Park. |
