Welcome to the El Butte Sailors website, and thanks to John Richardson for spearheading this for our members. We are a group of sailors committed to giving the Windrider trimaran owners, an opportunity to have activities and events that will promote the Windrider sailboat. Unquestionably the simplest, easiest and safest small sailboat currently on the market. Recommended by Multihulls magazine as being the sailboat that every seaside resort should have for people to sail just for fun, because it is almost impossible to tip over and get people into trouble.
Our club has a quarterly newsletter, the Tri Times, which you can subscribe to by becoming a member of the El Butte Sailors club. Send a check for ten dollars; made out to the El butte Sailors; to club treasurer B Jones, Box 1097, Elephant Butte, NM 87935, and she will mail you the latest copy and put you on the mailing list for future copies.
We have four sailing events scheduled for 2007, listed in the events schedule, and each year we get one or two more boats for each event, usually over ten boats. We invite catamaran sailors to join us and in the races are using Portsmouth yardstick handicaps to determine winners. Also a pot luck on Saturday evening of events so we can talk about plans and socialize. Anyone is welcome to come to an event, and there is a possibility that we will have a boat they can sail or try out or maybe sail with someone during a race.
We sail on Elephant Butte lake, at present, usually from Hot Springs cove where there is a beach and beach launching for boats. About four miles east of I 25 at exit 83.
