What Is She?

Wee Mites Aboney May (nicknamed Ebony) is an American Miniature Horse. What is a miniature horse, you ask? A miniature horse is a full grown horse that is no larger than 34".  Some people think that miniatures are baby horses. This is incorrect. They really are this small when grown up! Over many years of selective breeding, breeders have down-sized horses into a miniature scale. Ebony is one of those horses.

There are two well known registries for miniature horses in the United States. The first registry is the AMHR. It recognizes class A minis as any horse 34" or under. Class B minis are any horse over 34" but up to 38". The second registry is the AMHA. It only recognizes minis 34" and under. Any horse that is above the height limits in both registries cannot be registered. They are still considered miniature horses, but cannot be shown at any of the registry shows.

Miniature horses were originally bred for the royal courts in the renaissance period and also as pets for noble's children. Then, in America, they were used in cole mines because of their small size and hardiness. Now, miniature horses are used for many things. Some people primarily have them just as pets. Others show them. Minis can be shown in the following classes, but are not limited to them: halter, command, jumping, trail, color, driving, and liberty. Ebony is being trained to be shown in command, halter, and trail. She will start jumping when her bnes are fully formed.
