At the first initial appointment, (which shall last for around 30-60mins and is FREE), I will simply be hoping to get to know you a little better, to enable you to get to know me a bit better and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions about the service I offer.
If your problems relate specifically to eating disorders I will ask you about how you feel about me sending brief updates to your GP and if you agree to this I will ask you to sign an agreement form. I will also ask you to sign a disclaimer which states your understanding of this service aiming to complement, rather than replace, any NHS psychological or medical treatments you are offered.

One hour sessions to follow: These sessions give you the opportunity, time and space to speak openly and honestly without being judged or criticised. We would discuss and negotiate short term, realistic goals and look at how we could work on achieving these goals. These care plan goals would be reviewed regularly to ensure you felt happy and in control of the plans and achievements.
There are no set ways of working, all support being negotiated to suit your individual needs. All work is aimed at encouraging and supporting self reflection and analysis. This enables you to gain understanding of your eating disorder and/or other problematic issues and to become empowered in your moving on process.
Creativity, self expression, analysis and reflection form the basis of the work, where worksheets, weekly/daily recordings and tasks, can for some, be beneficial and aid this process. This type of support has been likened to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
You have to be in a position of recognising the negativity of your eating disorder and/or other problematic issues of concern and you have to want to change for this support to be beneficial. You do the hard work, I simply support and guide you through the process. It is for this reason that I request that clients are not only aware of being referred to this service, but give their consent to the referral.
