East Riding Rugby League Club

Welcome to the East Riding RLC Website

Jamie Coutts

Today, will mark the last day of involvment for one of the clubs great servants - Jamie Coutts, as he is currently joining up with the British Army.

Tonight (April 4th), Haworth Park will host a leaving party for him (7pm start), but we couldnt let him leave without our own going away present for the (self confessed) "Biggest hitting Fullback".

Enjoy!

New idea for sponsorship?

East Riding R.L.F.C. has come up with a new idea for fundraising for the coming 2008 summer season.

Sixteen of the senior squad have volunteered to have their legs and chest waxed and one player with shoulder length, blonde hair have offered to have his locks cut in a bid to help pay for new kit and equipment.

The target has been raised to £1,200 and if passed, well known Secretary Paul Beardshaw has decided he will get his legs waxed as reward for the player’s hard efforts!

"I'm looking forward to the event, but not the actually waxing! Well, that’s if the lad's meet the target then it will be well worth it" Said Paul.

Another person that’s involved is Head coach Dan Beardshaw, who was "volunteered" by his girlfriend Cat who came up with the idea and is running the event.

"I thought it was a good idea, but I think it will be a funny sight for the opposition playing a side with hairless legs!

Entry will be free and will be held on the 12th April at Haworth Park, after the Midlands Merit League clash between East Riding Academy and Sheffield Forgers.

The evening will commence with karaoke, with a winner crowned at the end of the night for "Champion 2008" and in between an auction, with the winners getting to wax the player on offer.

Tag Rugby

East Riding R.L.F.C. took part in its first ever tag game against the experienced FevNet rovers team who have played the game several times over the last few years.
East’s accepted the invitation to take this game 2 days before hand, after admin problems lead Fevnet to not have opponents for their first home game of the season based at the "Chris Moyles Stadium. Before kick off East’s had to go through the rules and as part of the warm up play a small sided game of "tag" to try and get abit of knowledge.

Four lots of 15 minutes was decided and for the first 30 minutes, both sides were even, both playing some brilliant rugby with set plays and lines of running that would be seen in super league. In the last 30 though, East's experience and superior fitness shone through, with them running away with victory, the match ending up; FevNet rovers with 8 tries and East Riding R.L.F.C. with 25. Six of them were to debutant Dale Lewis in his first ever game of rugby (and after only 2 training sessions in the sport!) and Man of the Match went to Jamie Couttes who will be a big loss after he leaves to join the army.

Those interested in playing tag rugby please contact the club on the usual email address - Eastridingrlc@hotmail.co.uk

If you've wanted to pick up the oval ball but a bit afraid of the big hits, then tag rugby is the best way to get into it.

There are no scrums or big-hitting tackles.

Instead you play the ball when you've been tagged by a member of the other team.

It's dead simple and it's a great way of learning all the basic passing, catching and running skills in rugby league.

You don't any special equipment - just a ball, a few jumpers and mates up for a run-around!

And the great thing is the game can be played by anyone - boys, girls, men and women.

So if you've been tagged by the rugby bug, then get involved with East Riding ready for this year's competition.

Players Meeting

The first chance for the players to come together for the summer 2008 season has been organised for 7pm, Monday 7th January at Haworth Park.

This will get the players to meet each other and the new coaching staff of Dan Beardshaw and Mark Hardcastle, who will be helped by Liam Jones (conditioning) and Paul Beardshaw and Steve Redshaw.

The club promotes and values a supportive family environment catering for the development of m
ixed ability players. The club are looking to run two open age sides this coming summer season and are still awaiting the RFL decision on which league the senior side will be playing in.

Training will be monday's at Haworth Park and Wednesday on 'Princess Elizabeth astroturf' across on the otherside of Beverley Road.
7 oclock at haworth park on a monday, 6oclock on a wednesday at 'Princess Elizabeth astroturf'

Pre-season training 2008

East Riding RLFC are looking to start training on Wednesday the 9th of January 2008 from 7pm up at Haworth Park marking the start of pre-season in preparation for the Summer 2008.

The Club are looking to run two senior sides, and an increase in teams in the club's youth section. Things are already looking good, but still need several players of various qualities to supplement all the sides.

Another area the club are pushing are the 'tag team' - minimal contact is used and to represent a tackle, a 'tag' is pulled off the attacker's belt and the player must play the ball at that place meaning teams can be either sex, or any age. An ideal introduction to rugby league.

If anyone is interested in playing or helping out of the club, please contact:

Coaches and Players wanted

East Riding RLFC are seeking to recruit ambitious players and coaches to help maintain the clubs progress.

The targets run higher than a successful team, but strive to be a successful club, with the senior side's consitsting of players developed internally.

2008 and the club are to take over one of the best sporting facilities in the region,- 'Haworth Park'. And a very successful under 15's side will be further developed, alongside plans for a reserve team, male and female social tag team's and expand with additional youth teams from under8's to under 16's.

The club are inviting any interested players or coaches to join and develop with the club and are particularly interested in receiving applications for numerous positions including (Coaches, Managers, First Aiders, etc) in the various age groups.

The club promotes and values a supportive family enviroment catering for the development of:

  • Mixed ability players
  • Coaches skill development
  • Managers organisational development
  • First Aid Officers (FAO) development
