East Riding 24 Saint Helens 26
Man of match - Karl Beardshaw
This game had everything from players playing with broken bones to excellent tries. The game started at a very fast pace, with end to end rugby, some huge tackles from both sides. Saint Helens scoring two early tries, then a nice short pass from Man of Match Karl Beardshaw to Stuart Hoggarth to see him score an excellent try, in the process of scoring the try he broke his thumb, he played the rest of the game knowing he had the injure. An exciting game packed with incidents that you couldnt take your eyes off with several penaltys for high tackles and indiscipline and some tries that would of looked good at knowsly road or headingly. The game could of gone either way with saint Helens holding on at the end with there experience and excellent defence.
Dan Beardshaw was Still happy with the result saying some of his inexperienced youngest played like they have been playing the game for 10 years when some had only played three/four games. games like this will make them stronger players in the long run and develop them.
The return fixture is bound to be another heated game, which requires a strong referee.
South Humber Rabbiohs 36 East Riding 40
Man of Match Stu hoggarth (East Riding)
An exciting game packed with incident that you couldnt take your eyes off for a second. Within the opening minutes Sam Smith had gone down in a hard tackle and Luke Winham was off with a bloodbin injury. 15mins gone and Liam Spriggs powers over the line to open the scoreing and converted by Sam Smith. 5mins later rabbitohs respond with a try and a conversion to even the score. On 34minutes Guy butler weaved from left to right to steal a try and 5min later back down the other end of the pitch number 16 for rabbitohs broke through the east riding defence to score the last before the half time.
Heavey rain at the end of the 1st half and throughout half time resulted in handling errors by both teams at the start of the second half.
Jason Hogg wasted no time in putting East riding mark on the second half by flying over the line after 2 mins, duly converted by sam smith. 2 minutes later matty farmery left the field with an ankle injury.
Tempers at this point were becoming a little frayed. 3 mins after Rabbitohs had a try dissalowed there number 15 ploughed over the line to score. only 2 short mins later rabbitohs blistered down the length of the pitch and over the line again as the East riding lads fell silent.
4mins later and hope again as with jasons secound try and sam smith conversion kept Easts in the game. The lads dug deep at this point and the next try scored by a recovered mat farmery seemed justly deserved. The next came from a fleet footed ben hardcastle, this was also converted.
Moments later an incident between Jamie coutts and Rabbotohs number 11 resulted in an East riding penalty been scored.
Rabbitohs replied in the dying moment another try and conversion. Sam smith almost certainly saved East Riding with a last gasp tackle which prevented a further Rabbitohs try.
