The Cranes of Broadland have long been an attraction drawing folks to this part of the world. Shy of people and at times rather elusive, these birds can be tricky to find away from their roost. Even at their traditional roost, views are oftyen distant or the light is very poor as the cranes are about the last birds to fly in. One bonus of living out here is the regular sightings of these wonderful birds that you can enjoy while going about your daily business. I often see them on the way to and from work or while out birding the general area. They do have favourite areas of course and a knowledge of these can almost guaranteee a sigfhting at times. Recently three birds have favoured the Horsey area and last week they began feeding exceptionally close to a road. Although I've had some close encounters of the last year, this was the closest I'd ever seen them, and in broad daylight too. Local birder Bob Cobbold, all-
