Hellingly V East London 17/06/18

Hellingly 85 - 75 East London

East London traveled to Hellingly today for our league match on a tricky but well looked after track, racing got off to a slow start with a couple of 6-4 heat losses for the Londoners and Nicky slipping going into a corner and conceding the race, we had to wait until heat 8 for our first heat win and heat 10 for the first of our rare 7-3 heat wins, Harry showed a never give up attitude but pipping a Hellingly rider on the line to get 2nd place in heat 14 to give us our second 7-3 heat win.

The chips and ice cream on Eastbourne sea front was a lovely way to end the day.

Richard Austen 20 (6rides), Harry Austen 8, (6) Les Stevens 16 (5), Dave Hughes 10 (5), Nicky Gunkel 15 (5), Kevin Smith 6 (5).

Our next home match is 01/07/18 against Kesgrave tapes up at 2pm.

East London V Ipswich 10/06/18

East London 67 - 88 Ipswich

East London entertained Ipswich on a sunny Sunday in Canning Town, the track was looking good and rode well after our hugely successful BYJL event on the Saturday.
the racing was fairly close and Ipswich just got the upper hand with the 6-4 heat advantages and the match was a lot closer than the final score shows.
East London with only 5 riders (not for the first time this season) held there own but was just short on speed to match the Ipswich riders.

R. Austen 21 (6 rides), H. Austen 7 (6), N. Gunkel 17 (5), K. Smith 5 (5), L. Stevens 17 (5).

We are back in action next Sunday with a trip down to Eastbourne to face Hellingly on their track in Lower Dicker.

Norwich V East London 03/06/18

Norwich 86 - 74 East London

East London made the 1st of 2 trips up the M11 to Norfolk for our league match with Norwich.
The first race ended with a 5-5 and then Norwich pulled out a couple of 6-4's to take the lead in the not so one sided match.
Les and Dave getting East London's first 6-4 of the day in heat 7 but unfortunately this was only one of two 6-4 in our favour for the day. With Les rolling back those 68 years scoring an impressive 16 points from his 5 rides.
the track was riding well as the sun was shining, but East London just couldn't get the heat wins to pull the scores closer.
As always the Ginsters club had its usual members but different venue for the Norwich match

Our next event on Saturday 09.06.18 is the BYJL individual at the Canning town rec tapes up at 12:00. And Ipswich are the visitors on the Saturday 10th.

Richard Austen 21, Harry Austen 7, Nicky Gunkel 18, Kevin Smith 5, Les Stevens 16, Dave Hughes 7.

Ipswich Vs East London 29/04/18

Ipswich 95 - 57 East London

East London made the cold and wet journey up the A12 to face Ipswich in our rearranged fixture as the original one was called off due to the snow.
the track looked damp but raced well and was still quick. with only 5 riders turning up due to illness and a puncture East London were already fighting a losing battle before the tapes went up in the first race. the first race set the tone for the rest of the meeting with Ipswich taking a 6-4 win in the first and 6-3 in the second as East London only had one rider who done well to finish second in the race, the third race saw Michael's chain snap off the gate and scoring a NF with Ipswich taking a 22 point advantage into the interval. In the second half of the meeting things turned sour for East London as Michael had a nasty fall in the 11th race damaging his knee and unable to continue leaving East London with 4 riders to complete the meeting. lets hope Michael's knee injury is not too serious and we wish him well on his recovery. Next race is away to Great Blakenham on the 20th May.
Points Scored - Harry Austen 8 (6 races), Richard Austen 21 (6 races), Nicky Gunkel 14, Michael Woodley 6 (2 races), Kevin Smith 8

East London V Hethersett 15/04/18

East London 69 - 89 Hethersett

Hethersett made the long journey down to Canning Town to race against the Londoners, the 1st race was a 5-5 draw followed by a 7-3 to Hethersett to give them an early lead then followed 5 even races to keep the match close until heat 8 where the visitors had 2 consecutive 7-3's to put them in command going in to the interval. after the interval East London kept it close but just couldn't get the heat wins needed to claw back the points and ended up 20 points out after the last race.
Hethersett didn't have it all there own way and we had some good fast racing as Richard Austen & Nicky Gunkel taking 2 race wins each and Kevin, Les, Harry and Michael all collecting some 2nd and 3rd places to keep it exiting until the end. Our next match is the rearranged match away to Ipswich on Sunday 29/04/18 that was called off due to the snow at the start of the season.

Richard Austen 15, Harry Austen 9, Les Stevens 11, Michael Woodley 11, Nicky Gunkel 13, Kevin Smith 10.

Kesgrave V East London 08/04/18

Kesgrave 103 - 57 East London

The Londoners travelled up the A12 and were faced with a very strong Kesgave team, East London's ageing team did themselves proud against a young and quick team in Kesgrave.

Racing got off to slippery start with Michael taking a tumble in his 2nd race, then followed by Dave and closely followed by Richard in falling off during the course of the meeting.
The tone for todays racing was set from the first few races but EL done well on a soft & wet track but started to fall behind after a 6-4, 7-3, and another 7-3 and was 10 points down by the 3rd race. after Dave come off he had to miss a race due to injury and then climbed back on the saddle to carry out his last 2 races and we hope he recovers quickly.
But we ended the day on a positive note..... THE GINSTERS CLUB IS BACK UP AND RUNNING...

we are in action again next week at home to Hethersett.

Nicky Gunkel 12, Kevin Smith 5, Les Stevens 12, Michael Woodley 9, Richard Austen 10, Dave Hughes 3, Harry Austen 6.

East London V Hellingly 25/03/18

East London 84 - 75 Hellingly

Hellingly travelled down to East London for our 1st race of the season, the racing got off to a great start with a 5-5 in the first race, East London then had 2 heat wins to pull out a rare lead and then followed by a few more 5-5 draws. Les Stevens rolled back the years winning his first 2 races and scoring a huge haul of points and Michael Woodley making his debut in this fixture had his 1st race win in heat 12 and followed this up with another in heat 14 when Daniel Welch jump the start and was excluded from the race, that result sealed the win for the Londoners and lets hope this is the start of a few more wins this season. Michael was enjoying his first match so much he even went out in the nominated race along with our reserve rider Harry, well done to all the riders well deserved.
Points Scored - Richard Austen 16, Kevin Smith 4, Nicky Gunkel 18, Michael Woodley 16, Les Stevens 18, Dave Hughes 8, Harry Austen 4.

Ipswich Vs East London 18/03/18

East London were digging out our thermals when the call came in that Ipswich had inspected the track and due to the beast from the east the match had to be postponed, we will update you with the new revised date for our trip up the A12 to face Ipswich CSC on a hopefully warmer day.
