MERSEY MODELS, LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND

Blimey, how many times am I gonna say "this engine is one of my very favourites?". I guess one of the things about collecting them is the fact that they all seem to have they're own characters. But Merseys - they're just fab. Production started in 1937 and was brought to an abrupt end when the Luftwaffe got lucky with a hit on the Liverpool factory in 1941. They made several models, and I make no excuses for wanting them all.
This is a model 52G - the G standing for geared. I love the way it's mounted on plywoodwith a cute little nameplate - gives it a real museum feel. All solid brass, with an inline oil feeder and a lovely pointed hexagonal filler cap, all beautifully engineered. The burner, pictured below, has to be placed under the base before being lit - something that hasn';t always been done , judging by the scorch marks underneath. It's in beautiful condition and makes a glorious chuff with the steam expelled via the chimney - always a plus in my book - and is altogether just perfect. Come the revolution, this would be one of the very last I'd let go!
