I have never seen another engine like this and can find nothing about it, but as soon as I saw it it was one of those "must have's". It's seen better days, but to me that's part of it's charm. The firebox retains little of it's original paint, likewise the chimney; but the base retains it's gorgeous maroon mottling with yellow edging. It has a double flywheel which employs a tiny gearing arrangement to turn the governor, and is powered by a simple verticle piston. The ladder / flywheel base and mounting is a deep red with the beautifully detailed railings picked out in gold. How old is it? No idea, but Doll produced engines from 1898 until they were taken over by Fleischmann in the late 1930's - my guess it dates around 1920. It's suprisingly powerful, and will drive 4 models via my large Marklin lineshaft no problem.
