See you tonight!

Red Alert!

The last day of school for 8th grade is NOT May 29. The last day of school for 8th grade is June 3. When Graduation is on a Wednesday, the Monday and Tuesday between Cedar Point and Graduation is time off. However, Graduation is on Monday this year, so students need to be in school through June 3. We used this date based on last year’s calendar when we made up the 8th grade activities list. We’re sorry for the confusion.

The Car Wash is the Saturday the kids get back, May 9. (If we need to postpone due to weather, we’ll put it on www.freewebs.com/eapetrides by 8a.m.) Please make sure that date is on your calendar.

Current News

Thanksgiving 2008

Dear Parents,

We aren’t sending the usual newsletter, but there are so many things going on that we thought you might want to be informed. These are in the order I thought of them, not in order of importance.

  • There will be a mandatory meeting sometime in early January for parents of 8th graders to update you on the Washington D.C. trip and make plans for a dance and graduation activities. (Yes, I know.)
  • I’m singing in the Carolyn Mawby Chorale concert on Sunday December 7 at 4:00 at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Flint. It’s going to be a wonderful way to begin a Christmas celebration. Adult tickets are $15 and student tickets are $5.00. I can get tickets for you if you get the money to me by Tuesday, Dec. 2. I’ve offered extra credit in Religion class for any student who comes and writes a paragraph about the concert. Mrs. Felt has offered extra credit in music class as well. I think there are snacks after…….
  • The 8th graders wanted to sponsor a family from our parish giving tree. This is especially important this year because we have so many more names due to the merger of the 4 parishes and the economic situation in Flint. The kids realize how they have been blessed and were very willing to be generous. On the tree were names of children only, not whole families, so I picked up two, a 2-year-old and a 9-year-old, both boys. Their tags said they wanted educational toys. If your family is able, please contribute either educational toys, books, or cash. I’ll shop for whatever else needs to be purchased for them. Socks and underwear for the boys (or in any size for any of the North End Soup Kitchen clients) would also be welcomed. These all need to be wrapped and put under the tree at church by Sunday. We can spend some time in class Friday December 5 wrapping what we have.
  • There’s a request from the auction committee for our class’s contribution to the Dinner Auction to be homemade bread and jam. I think we can do this in this way. To make the jam, I’ll get the ingredients and equipment together, and then I’ll set a couple of dates to make it, probably in January. I’ll feel much more comfortable doing this in my own kitchen, so it will be an optional after-school activity. Kids can sign up for when they can come, and they can walk to my house (15minutes) after school that day. (I can only transport 4 kids in my car.) Obviously, parent drivers and volunteers would also be welcome….We’d be done by 4:30, so parents would pick up their kids at my house. Not everyone would need to come, but all would be welcome. To make the bread, we’d need at least one more breadmaker in addition to mine. I thought we could measure the ingredients in math class first thing and let it bake in our classroom the Friday before the auction. That way the bread will be fresh. If we had 4 breadmakers, we could have snacks during study hall…..I think this will be fun.
  • We’ve written a research paper draft with revisions in English class. We didn’t plan on doing a final copy. However, if any students want to type up their paper with the revisions done, they may do so for extra credit. This would be due on Friday, and would not be accepted late.
  • Several students still do not have their books covered, and I’ve noticed considerable wear. Please teach your children how to cover the books so they stay covered all year.
  • If your child hasn’t turned in candy money yet, please do so as soon as possible. Thank you to those students who have turned theirs in. We are in the black because of your responsibility. Good job!
