Iron Butt™ ride report index

750+ Iron Butt™ ride reports

Members of the Iron Butt™ Association (IBA) are "dedicated to safe, long distance endurance riding™".  If you are on this website you probably know that by now, and you also probably know that the Iron Butt™ Association has a websiteThe Iron Butt Association runs the Iron Butt™ Rally every second year in the United States, and in addition the association "certifies" various long distance rides; rides that can be done pretty much anywhere and at any time (such as a "BunBurner™" - see the IBA website for details), as well as specific rides in the USA and Canada (such as the "Trans-Canadian Quest™"; again, see the IBA website for details).

Some riders who complete one of these Iron Butt™ rides write up a report and post it on the web somewhere.  These reports are an enormous source of information for other riders, containing helpful tips on long-distance riding and so forth.  The reports can also be great, entertaining stories.

So, what is this website, the one you are reading right now, about?

Well, just as many of the Iron Butt™ rides can be done pretty much anywhere in the world (in addition to reports of rides in the United States and Canada, this site lists reports from rides done in Australia, Japan, South Africa, the UK, and more), the reports written after the rides can also be found pretty much anywhere on the 'net.  The Iron Butt Association's website, for example, has many reports on it, both on the main website and also on their forum .   However, there are a lot of reports that are not posted on the IBA website, instead being posted on riders' own websites, on various motorcycling forums, and so on.

So, then, the goal of this website is to provide an index to Iron Butt™ ride reports, no matter where in the world the ride was done, and no matter where on the web the report was posted.  Currently there are links to over 750 reports on this site.  The navigation panel on the left of each page on this site contains a list of links to reports on rides that the IBA certifies.  Clicking on the "50CC Quest" link, for example opens a page where ride reports on the Coast-to-Coast in 50 hours, or less, ride are linked.

This index can never be complete, as new reports are posted on the web, and existing reports (in perhaps obscure locations on the 'net) found, it will need updating; this website is therefore a process, not a product.  If I have missed your report, or another's report you know of, please email me to let me know and I will correct this omission (email to: ibindex at gmail dot com).  If you wish, you are welcome to post a link to this website on your own site.

The index lists the reports by the ride name, where the ride was done, and also includes, where possible, a (very) brief description of what bike was ridden on the ride.  I have left the rider's name out of the index; I don't know why I did that, just from a vague concern with privacy I guess.  The rider's name is normally on the actual report, so if you want to know who did the ride, just click on the link.

Feedback is always welcome; if you have any ideas on how I can make this site easier for you to use, please email them through.

Notes:

*Many rallies, due to the long distances covered, qualify competitors for an Iron Butt™ certification, so there are some rally reports listed, but more are needed.

*The reports indexed are all in English only.  There are Iron Butt ride reports out there on the 'net in other languages, but I will leave it others more clever than me to index them (if you do, let me know and I will happily post a link from here).  Index to Iron Butt tales in Finland .

*And finally, a note on the advertising.  This index is on a free website, so I guess advertising is inevitable.  One day I will pay for a "premium" service, which doesn't have advertising, until then the site has ads.
