          Welcome

This web site is dedicated to my cats, Midir and Etain, for no reason other than I like to show off pictures of them and brag about all the cute things they do.

I'll start in the beginning ... I came home from work one night in July of '97 to find a little longhair ginger and white kitten sitting on my doorstep.  I guess she was waiting for me because before I knew it she was rubbing up against my leg purring and begging for attention.  The next night when I came home, she was waiting on my doorstep ... she was thin and seemed friendly, so I put out some milk for her.  The third night as I pulled into the drive way, she came running around the corner of the house, planted herself on the doorstep and waited for me (guess she had lost track of time).  When I opened the door, with no encouragement what so ever, she walked into my living room, turned around, sat down, looked at me, and declared herself queen of the castle.  Etain was estimated to be about 6 months old at the time.  She remains the most affectionate, people loving cat I have ever seen.  She's an absolute glutton for affection and loves having her tummy rubbed more than anything.

Spring of 2002, while I was working at an animal hospital, a cat rescue organization brought in a male orange and white tabby kitten, just under 1 year old.  He was so timid he had glued himself to the back of his cage, and was visibly nervous.  When I pull him out for his exam, he placed a paw on each shoulder, buried his face in my neck, his whole body relaxed and he started purring ... I didn't stand a chance.  I brought Midir home two days later.  It was rough at first, Etain was not used other animals, and she was not used to sharing attention with anyone.  But eventually things settled down, and the house is as peaceful now as a house with two cats can be.  As I have time, I'll add cute cat stories and pictures ... if you're not a cat person, you might want to get a bucket in case all the cuteness makes you sick :)

Midir & Etain's Favorite Cat Sites

The Cat Site everything you ever wanted to know about cats and the best forums on the web for "crazy cat people" :)

Lisa A. Pierson, DVM - this is a great website for info on feeding your cat a biologically appropriate diet, she also has some good tips on how to keep that litter box clean!

The Freddie Street Cats - A site by and for cats (very funny)

Plants that are harmful to cats

Dr. Larry PetVet

Cat Fanciers' Association

Cat Fanciers' Web Site (cat care, veterinary info, rescue organizations, breeds etc)

Pampered Paws Pet Rescue (Baltimore, MD)

American Animal Hospital Association (These are the people who make sure your Vet and animal hospital are up to par.)

I can't emphasize enough the importance of understanding your pet's behavior.  Not only will it help you appreciate their little quirks, but you need to know what is normal and what is not.  A change in behavior may be the only sign that your pet is sick and needs to see the Vet.  If your pet has a behavioral problem, your understanding and patience is the key to resolving that problem.  So, here are some sites to help you understand your cat ... (pet behavioral info can be found aslo at Dr. Larry's site, and both Cat Fancier sites listed above)

Feline Behavior
