2008 District/Regionals Wrap UP
On Monday and Tuesday, April 7th and 8th, the District 9-4A tournament was held at Park Vista and Santaluces High Schools.
Competing schools were: Atlantic, John I Leonard, Lake Worth, Park Vista, Palm Beach Central, Santaluces, and Spanish River. At the conclusion of Monday's matches, Atlantic Girl's players Julie Borg/Kathleen McQueeney, #1 doubles and Vanessa Jean-Baptiste/Nathalie Tarr, #2 doubles advanced to Tuesday's semi finals doubles rounds. Nathlie Tarr, #5 singles also advanced to the # 5 singles finals. Atlantic's girls all met up with District Champion Spanish River in those rounds. Atlantic played to the best of their ability, but Spanish River was too strong to dethrone. The Atlantic Girl's team finished in 3rd place, 1 point behind 2nd place Park Vista who advanced to Regional play along with District Champion, Spanish River. Spanish River went on to the State Championships in Orlando where they finished 2nd in the state.
On the boys side, Richard Blumenfeld, Alex Terescenko, Jordan Johnson, Ceguyto Saint-Vil, and Harry Hardy all did battle meeting up with Disrict Champion Spanish River. At the conclusion of the day, Spanish River captured the overall title, Atlantic and Palm Beach Central were deadlocked in a 2nd place tie. Both schools had to return on Wednesday, April 9 to play head to head to determine the second place winner who also advances to Regional Playoffs. A total of 7 points are in a head to head match, 5 singles and 2 doubles. The first team to 4 points is declared the winner. After a 3-2 Atlantic lead after singles play, the doubles were put on the courts after a 45 minute rain delay. Atlantic clinched the #2 doubles match for the 4-2 win while the #1 doubles match was suspended in progress after the clinching win.
Atlantic Boys defeated Douglas High School 4-2, the District 10-4A(Broward County winner) on Tuesday, April 15 in Regional Play and advance to play Spanish River in the Regional Finals. For the Douglas match, Atlantic's #1 Richard Blumenfeld, #2 Alex Teresecenko, and #5 Ceguyto Saint-Vil won their matches while #3 Jordan Johnson and #5 Harry Hardy dropped theirs giving Atlantic a 3-2 lead in the best of seven matches. The #2 doubles team of Jordan Johnson/Ceguyto Saint Vil clinched the victory as they won their match while #1 doubles team of Richard Blumenfeld/Alex Terescenko suspended their match at 4-4 in the 3rd set as it was all over!
On Thursday, April 17, things did not go as planned at the Super Regional when Atlantic faced Spanish River for a chance to advance to the State Tournament in Orlando again after a trip there in 2007. With #1 player Richard Blumenfeld unable to play due to a planned college signing trip, the team had to forfeit #1 singles and doubles which was too much for the balance of the team to overcome. Atlantic's successful season came to an end with a 4-1 loss to Spanish River.

Tryouts: Monday 1/28/08 to Thursday 1/31/08 (we may extend if needed)
What you need to know:
-Practice is Monday to Thursday. Once matches start, we usually practice Mon and Wed with matches on Tue and Thu. If there is not match, we practice on Tue or Thu.
-We get rides with each other. See me and let me know if you drive and/or your parent can drive other players to practice.
-You must have your own ride home. They need to pick you up at the time listed above.
-You must have your own racket, shorts, T-shirt, and tennis shoes to practice.
-You can change at the practice site’s locker rooms.
-Any questions please call coach Mike at home, before 9 p.m.

The 2007 State Tournament
Today was not so kind to the Atlantic High School Boy's Tennis Team. Temperatures today at Sanlando Park in Orlando were in excess of 90 degrees. The boys had to play 2 rounds of singles beginning at 9:30AM and 1 round of doubles beginning at 1:30PM with only a 30 minute break allowed between matches. The draw featured many players with high national rankings including the #1 and #4 ranked players in the US. The Atlantic squad played hard, but the #4 and #5 singles players succumbed to the extreme conditions and were forced to retire in their first rounds in the 3rd sets. These 2 players also made up the #2 doubles team which had to be replaced by substitutes as they were unable to recover to play doubles. Atlantic was finished with the event as of late Wednesday and will return to Delray Beach, FL on Thursday morning.
2007 District/Regional Champs!!
Congratulations to the 2007 Atlantic High School Boys and Girls Tennis Teams!!! While the Girls had a great seaon finishing second in the Districts to defending State Champions and 2007 District/Regional Champions Spanish River High School, the Boys played their best tennis of their high school careers as they captured the 2007 District Championships held April 16-17, 2007 and capped it off with a 7-0 Regional Championship victory over Douglas High School, Parkland(Broward County), FL. This marks the return for an Atlantic High School Tennis team at the State Championship Series in Orlando, FL April 25-27, 2007. The last appearance at the State Championship Series for an Atlantic High School Tennis team was the Boy's team of 2001.
