Lori Venturella - Dyslexic Tutor

Welcome!

If you have come to my website you or someone you love may be struggling with Dyslexia.   Finding a mulitsensory tutor is the first step you need to take in order to overcome this learning difference.  You are moving in the right direction!!  I am Lori Venturella, a multisensory tutor.

It is not a disablity, it is a learning difference.

People who have Dyslexia often have trouble learning in a typical school setting because the majority of students do not have a phonic issue.  Therefore, reading and writing is taught in a way that dyslexic students cannot grasp.  Just as a hearing impaired person needs different skills to learn how to communicate, dyslexic people need different skills to learn how to read.

Remember that someone who has Dyslexia has an average or above average IQ. This means they can learn and do as well as everyone else--if they get help.  Sometimes children will zone out or act out because they are not following what is going on in the classroom.  This makes the situation worse.   Teachers often take it personally or believe the student is lazy or has a behavioral issue.   This can slow the diagnosis process because the school district does not know where to begin.

If you are parent of one of these students you need to trust your instinct.  If the school sytem is stalling don't let your child lose years, get out there and find what they need.  Make sure you stay on top of the school system, becasue you will need them, but make sure your child is getting the help they need now.

If you live in my area (Dane county) I would love to help.   I am a tutor that is certified in Orton-Gillingham Multisensory instruction.  If you do not live in my area,  look for a tutor or school that practices Orton-Gillingham.   Orton-Gillingham was devolped in the 1930s.  It is a system that was designed specifically to teach students with phonic problems.  It focuses on teaching by using multisensory activities.   If you would like more information on Orton-Gillingham please go to OrtonGillingham.com.
