Help
Need help with something? This is the right place to be.
If after reading this entire page you still have a question, you can post in the Forums, or if you prefer e-mail Solloby at dragon_bluey@hotmail.com. Please note that if you ask questions answered on this page then your e-mail will be ignored. Solloby doesn't have the time to repeat herself to everyone too lazy to read.
Q. Who are you?
A. I'm Solloby. I'm 19 years old and am at University where I study IT & Computer Games. I hope to become a videogame designer, or maybe work in videogame art (2D or 3D). I know a bit of programming but don't want to become a programmer. I live in Australia, so this is the current time where I am:
Q. What are adoptables?
A. Adoptables are just that... graphical pets you can 'adopt' and keep on your website, blog or forums. We have our very own forum for posting your adoptables and helping you keep track of them. You can give them names, and if you want to RP (roleplay) them you can make up personalities for them and have all sorts of fun.
Q. Do they grow?
A. Yes they do. Dynos have 2 stages, egg and adult. All eggs look the same except for their colour. When they grow up, they can grow into one of the 4 species of Dyno (see the Home page for images of the different Dyno species).
Q. When will they grow?
A. Dynos generally grow between the middle and end of each month. They may all grow at the same time, or some may grow one day and others the next. Even if you have multiples of the same egg, they may not all grow on the same day.
Q. Are there multiple variations?
A. Yes there are! Each egg has a chance of growing into multiple variations. How many variations are there? That varies from egg to egg. Sometime after growing all the Dynos, Solloby will update the Archives from time to time, where all existing Dynos are shown so you can see all of the variations.
Q. Will there ever be more Dyno species?
A. Solloby has no plans for this in the future, but if she ever does feel like making more species, there would most likely be a Ptewo (Pterodactyl) and/or a Stego (aw, how to shorten & cutesify the word Stegosaurus?). But for now, only the current 4 species are available.
Q. Are these free?
A. Yes they are. Everyone is allowed to adopt them and display them, provided they follow the rules on the Adopt page.
Q. The code doesn't work T-T
A. Did you use the correct code? The HTML code is for websites, and you need to put it into the code of your website. The BBS code is for forums. If you did, then maybe you are using the code on a forum that doesn't allow some BBS tags. If this is the case I'm not sure there is much I can do about it. If you are sure the type of code you are using is correct, then maybe post on our forum about it, and remember to link to where you are trying to display your Dyno and what code you are trying to use.
Q. One of my Dynos isn't showing! There's only a red X
A. If only one of them isn't showing, refresh after a few moments - there's a very good chance your Dyno is in the middle of growing!
Q. Do you make customs?
A. As a general rule no, but on the odd occasion I will make customs in exchange for art trades. See the customs subboard in the forum if you are interested in an art trade. Don't be offended if I say no, you may have caught me at a busy time. I also want to limit customs because not everyone is good at art so I don't want lots of people parading around with customs and other people missing out.
Q. How about requests? Can I request a pet for next month?
A. Unless I am feeling unimaginative and ask for requests on the forum, the answer is no. You can however vote on which 2 of last month's Dynos breed, again in the forum.
Q. How do you make adoptables? How do you make them grow?? How do you make different variations???
A. I make the adoptables in Adobe Photoshop CS3, which my parents were kind enough to buy for me (I have the whole CS3 Design suite, I use it for some subjects in my Computer Games degree). If you don't have Photoshop then you can use Paint that comes with your Windows computer, or download GIMP, which is freeware. I don't know anything about GIMP.
I make them grow by uploading the adult stages over the top of the egg stages. This overwrites the eggs and makes the adults display instead. I host the images at Photobucket, which has 25GB of bandwidth per month. You don't need to worry about what that means, but if there is ever a 'bandwidth exceeded' message instead of your Dynos, I will be able to fix it but not until the next month.
I use some clever Javascript to make different variations. It's to do with random generation. So yes, I can set the chance of getting each variation. I will put up the approximate % chance of each variation in the Archives.
