Other Tips

No matter what it takes I will get there

If you are really ana/mia you do not need these tips. That should be a sign to you whether you are really ana/mia or not. I am putting these tips/tricks up to help you if you have tried everything you can already. These tips are taken from other websites and I do not take any credit for any of these tips.

• I don't know if this has ever happened to anyone but, keep in mind that if you are going to throw away your food and its chicken or something, odd questions might arise if your plate suddenly turns up and there're no bones.

• If you don't like to waste food, take it to your local homeless shelter.

• When you are in school, grab something on your way out the door, because you' re in a hurry, then throw it out. Then, in lunch time go somewhere else instead of with your friends, you don't want to b around food. Get involved in an activity that goes really late so you come home after everyone else has eaten and you can take a plate of food to your room to eat while you are doing your homework (put the food in a bag and throw it out with tomorrows breakfast. The only thing is weekends- try to stay as busy as possible.

• Celery actually burns calories. Every hour eat a stalk of it. Not only will it fill you up, but it'll also get your metabolism kicking.

• Chewing and spitting out all the foods you crave and can't have is great, but this technique can also be used for chewing gum. If you like to chew massive amounts of gum, especially regular sugar-full gum, just chew it and spit out your sugary saliva. At 10 calories a stick, gum can add up quickly. Also remember that sugar-free gum is not calorie free so try spitting with it too. Another good reason to spit as you chew sugar-free gum is because the sorbitol in it can cause gas and bloating.

• When you feel you need to eat, list the reasons why it's not such a good idea, by then you'll most likely lose the craving, and you'll have convincing reasons not to eat.

• Try Green Orange or Bitter Orange (found at health food stores). They contain synephrine which increases your metabolism more effectively and it's not as dangerous to use as ephdra.

• Coffee on an empty stomach it will make you feel sick and will curb your appetite while burning calories because of the caffeine.

• Always wear a rubber band on your wrist, when you're tempted - twang, you won't be for long.

• Sniff scented markers or anything else that may smell like a fruit and then you won't be hungry anymore.

• Make a trigger/thinspiration book filled with dieting tips, quotes, safe foods, and anything else that will trigger you into not eating. When you feel the urge to binge, refer to your trigger book-it will remind you that you don't want to stay fat.

• If you get hunger strikes, go on a walk or sleep, keeping your mind off food will make it go away.

• If you're in college, plan your schedule so that it spreads throughout the day that way you won't have long gaps of time where you can pig out.

• Whenever you get hungry, think of all the people who made fun of you when you were fat.

• Whenever you feel hungry or feel tempted to snack, exercise. Go to a gym or do sit ups or jumping jacks or go run around the block a few times. When you're done exercising, you won't feel hungry anymore.

• Put your fork down in between bites at meal time.

• If you feel empty try this, you can buy bagels, that are 98% fat free, split it in half, chew on it for a while, they fill you up as they appear stodgy, once you've eaten a mouthful spit the rest out, they're dry so encourage you to drink water, which fills you up.

• Always keep a trash can near you when you eat so if you feel like you are going to over eat, you can just make it a reflex action to throw the food away. You can't think about it though, because you'll just decide to eat. Even if you've only eaten 2 bites; if you feel that you might be full, just reflexively throw the food away. If your at a restaurant, just choose a seat next to the trash. I don't recommend this tip if you're eating with other people, though.

• If you're annoyed at your family for always trying to make you eat breakfast with them, tell them (while holding your stomach with your arms and looking like you're about to puke) that you always feel sick after you eat in the morning so early. Or that you have to go swimming in a few hours, and that you don't like eating before that.

• If you have to cook for your family, make sure it's something that takes a long time to cook (like cookies or a pasta or something) so that way when it's done and you're ready to eat it, you will be full just by the smell and waiting and you won't be able to finish it all (this worked for me before I even realized it did). It also helps to drink a lot of water while you're waiting, as that fills you up, too.

• When you are really hungry (physically) then take some anti-heartburn pills. Stomach acid is always being mad

Meals are one of the most difficult times to remain faithful to Ana. Obviously the difficulty increases depending on how aware those around you are of your condition, and their strictness regarding mealtime customs. These tricks below have all worked, and failed, for me at different times, but they are worth a try...

[Early days, or just VERY casual family]

* Try to arrange it so that you get home from school late as often as possible, go to the library, get involved in sports clubs, go shopping or go round friends' houses. Then when you get home you're family will have already eaten and you can 'eat' alone, therefore making it easier to dispose of the food unnoticed. If they have not eaten yet, give them the classic line "I've already eaten".- this tends to work ok at the start, but your family will get suspicious when you start losing weight.

* Tell your family that you have a lot of work or revision to do, so you haven't got time to eat and will make something later, if they agree then you know what to do ;) If they argue that they want you to eat what they've cooked then agree as long as you can eat in your room so that you can revise at the same time, then dispose of it.

* Since exam season is approaching, you could arrange with your parents to eat your main meal at school so that the evenings are more clear to do work. This means that you will be able to pocket the money they give you for better things and will have much less to deal with in the evenings. Since they will not know what you have eaten at lunchtime you could argue that you had a HUGE lunch so do not need any dinner.

Things getting harder, or just a moderately strict family]

*If your family will not let you eat separately, then suddenly become very interested in a particular TV program that is on each night at exactly the same time as dinner, so that your family will eat in front of the TV with you, or even better let you eat in front of it on your own. It is MUCH EASIER to dispose of food when your family is distracted.

*Insist that you use a tray to put your plate on (one with raised sides), then while you're eating you can carefully place food under the rim of the plate on the tray. Make sure you go into the kitchen first (your status as a 'neat freak' comes in handy here), then you can dispose of the food before anyone else sees.

* Then there's the serviette and opaque cup trick, while you are eating (again this works best in front of the TV, but has some success at a table depending on how aware your parents are). While eating chew your food for a long time to reduce the frequency of the disposals, then casually lift the cup or serviette up to your mouth and spit the food into it. Just remember to dispose of the food afterwards!

* Wear a baggy jumper to dinner (those with front pockets are best), then periodically place food up your sleeve or in the pocket (I know its disgusting, but if necessity calls its better than eating!). This worked for me right up to the end. Just make sure you avoid all sauces!

* Have a certain seat you always sit in at dinner, in the corner of the room (this is again in front of the TV) place a container, on the floor on the wall side of your chair (away from your family) and occasionally drop food into it. This obviously has to be a pot that is usually there.

* Be the last to leave the kitchen with your plate, make up some excuse like you have to go to the toilet, then when everyone has left the room get rid of as much food as you can get away with, so when you walk into the room you already have a lot less food to deal with. This can work at the table too, it just depends how observant your family is, you could even try swapping the original plate for a smaller one.

[Strict family who insist on sitting at the table]

$ Become vegetarian/vegan, your family might let you cook your own meals to save them trouble, then you can make the meal that you are going to eat as low calorie as you like.

$ If becoming veggie wont work, get involved in the cooking of meals, then you can suggest low calorie alternative and watch all the ingredients put in the food, this helps to get an accurate calorie intake and also alerts you to which food you should avoid.

$ Place a smaller plate/bowl and smaller cutlery at your place, then it will look like you've got more food. The small cutlery will help you to eat slower (where possible use chop-sticks, I said that I was practising new skills), this means that when everyone else has finished you will have lots of food left, and also makes you feel fuller on less food.

$ Cut your food up and move it around, lift food up to your lips and then start talking so that you dont actually eat it.

$ If you have soup with your meal, leave as much of your soup as possible and use it to hide food that you don't want to eat.

$ Get up at least once in the meal to do something (going to the toilet might make your family suspicious), this wastes time and lets your food go cold to give you a reason not to eat it.

$ If your family has realised what you are doing and are threatening you to get you to eat, use tears to make them feel bad, and if they are into negotiating how much you will eat then always be stubborn and give really small amounts gradually increasing only very slightly, in the end they will lower the amount of food so much that you don't have to eat much, and they think that they have succeeded.

$ If you have a weak family member who feels sorry for you, use that. If anyone ever asks you to "try your best to eat", then you are very fortunate in that you can eat virtually nothing and they will think you've tried.

) Clean your house. Sure, it's mundane, but it burns calories and you get a clean house in the bargain.

2)Take some kind of self-help or improvement class - think dancing, sculpting, painting, horse-back riding. Something you've always wanted to do! All the $$ you save from not eating can go towards your new hobby.

3) Go online and look at thinspiration pics. Search for the best picture of your favorite model - this usually takes a while and gets your mind off food completely.

4) Better yet, start your own webpage! Learning HTML and perfecting the art of webmaster-ing is a long, involved process. Try it!

5) Read. I read a lot of Stephen King and random fantasy things. It takes you away for a while.

6) What, you don't have a trigger book? What are you waiting for? MAKE ONE!

7) Write something. Journal, story, poem, screenplay - anything. Put your heart and feelings into it and you might just be surprised.

8) Phone someone. Ewewew, how gross does it sound when someone's eating on the phone? You don't want to be a bad example, do you? 9) Go for a walk or jog. Take your dog out, enjoy the sun. If there's no sun - go play in the rain! 10) Have some coffee. But use sweet-n-low or have it black (not too much lo-cal sweetener, tho - that stuff packs an aspartame punch like you wouldn't believe). It fills you up. 11) Go to the mall! Even if you look terrible in the clothes, it's great thinspiration for when you DO get tiny. 12) Get something pierced. If you enjoy this kind of thing, try to get a new piercing for every weight goal (but don't make 'em too easy!) There are lots of places on your ear alone - tregis, conch, cartilage, or the good ol' lobe. 13) Take up a sewing class, or try to learn it yourself. Imagine the possibilites! You'll have to learn how to take in all your old fat clothes soon enough, anyhoo. 14) Burn yourself a feel-good, ana-psyche CD and play it loudly. Unless the songs are horribly blatant, everyone will assume you're just rockin out to some great tunes. 15) FASHION MAGAZINES! Hello, great clothes and tiiiiiny models! What more could you ask for?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

. I am NOT ALLOWED to have more than 700 calories per day

2. I MUST fast every other week

3. I MUST limit meat. (NO BEEF)

4. I MUST exercise 6 days per week.

5. I MUST always take my diet pills.

6. I am NOT ALLOWED two hardcore starches in the same day. (I.e. bread and rice)

1) I just thought id tell you guys about this game I play with myself that helps me not eat:

I add up all the calories of all the foods I didn't give into and it makes me way happy 2 see I much I could've eaten but didn't. - *New*

2) When you feel as though you are on the verge of a binge pretend someone of importance is watching you eat (e.g.: your boyfriend, crush). - *New*

3) You can train yourself to forget hunger by gently punching your stomach every time you get hungry because you'll hurt too bad to eat. - *New*

4) Take Tums to help with hunger pains; they have calcium so they'll also help in that area. - *New*

5) Weigh yourself before you eat; it will show you that you still have more to lose. Weigh yourself after you eat as well. You'll be more motivated once you start seeing the numbers creep up.

6) Watch other people eat and smell their food (this can be bad if you're on the verge of a binge) and try to convince yourself afterwards that you were in fact that one eating and that you are full.

7) Watching people eat can also make you more determined. You'll feel stronger watching them give in to food. You're superior and don't want to grow disgustingly fat like them. You'll also feel better afterwards knowing that you didn't give in to your hunger.

8) If you live alone or with someone who's dieting you can place pictures of either disgustingly obese people or pictures of models in the kitchen where the fattening foods you crave are kept. Seeing the pictures will remind you of what you want to become or what will happen if you binge. Find a buddy and compete with him/her. Your competitiveness will over rule your hunger and cravings.

9) Spend a little time each day at pro-anorexic sites, reading anorexic diaries, and chatting with supporters on the Internet. This'll make you stronger and help you realize your goals.

10) Wear tight clothes, especially tight jeans. They should be two sizes too small (if you can fit it). This'll be a constant reminder that you need to lose weight. And if you gain weight you'll just have wasted your money. Clean something you find truly disgusting (the litter box and toilet work just fine). Afterwards you won't feel like eating for another couple of hours.

11) Listen to other people eat it sounds so gross you'll lose your appetite. If your craving is so strong that you can't resist, just take a bite, chew, and then spit it out. If you crave even more put what you spat out back in your mouth. You'll be so grossed out you won't want to eat anymore.

12) If you're craving pizza take out a can of canned tomatoes and drink up, you wont wanna eat pizza anymore, if anything you'll wanna throw up.

13) Print out the thin commandments your favorite quotes and articles and read them over and over (that works 4 me)

[Don't sin!!]

"Hunger hurts, but starving works."

# My number one tip would be to stay out of the house. I usually go to the library straight after school because it prevents me from giving into the Pam binge time because I am in a place that I can't eat in, and my family cannot nag me for staying out. The library is also an excellent source of triggering books and pictures and information on nutrition and exercise ;)

# If you stay out late every night after school, at the library or at clubs etc, not only do you prevent yourself from eating snacks, but if you get home after everyone else has eaten you will be able to dispose of the food they have cooked you without being seen. Or you could say you have already eaten.

# If you are prone to lagging determination late in the evening, then it is important that you go to bed early, this enables you to get up earlier in the morning and exercise, and it prevents you from being able to eat. The sooner you go to bed, the sooner the day ends.

# Exercise in the morning, I find that I am far more determined to stick to my routine in the morning, doing all my exercise in the morning means that there is no pressure on me to do any later if I have lots of work to do or my family are around. It means that any exercise you do in the evening is a bonus and also revs up your metabolism and forces your body to burn fat.

# Eat in the morning. Your body will have all day to burn off the calories.

# Set a time in the evening after which you will not eat, this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do as it is known to improve sleep, and provides many food free hours, which your family will not question.

# Arrange an hour-long exercise class or routine to start an hour before the hour that you have stated you will not eat after. (E.g. if you wont eat after 7pm, start the exercise at 6pm). This adds 2 more hours when you cannot eat into your evening, as you cant eat while you are exercising and for the hour before.. Ingenious!

# Become a fruitarian, vegan, vegetarian, whatever it takes to reduce calorie intake. If you are lucky your family will let you cook your own meals and then you can control the calories and portion sizes, as you like.

# DRINK WATER. This reduces appetite, gives you energy and improves the skin!! Ice water burns 17 calories per glass and hot water expands in your stomach making you feel fuller.

# Drink black coffee on an empty stomach, this can make you feel sick so you won't want to eat, and gives you energy.

# Drink diet coke/Pepsi (Pepsi has 0.1 less calories per 100ml), the carbonation in them help make you feel full. But some people find that the artificial sweetener makes them crave sweet things more.

# If you feel a binge coming on, get out of the house and exercise. Look at magazines, offer to do the washing up, do ANYTHING that keeps your mind off food and prevents you from being able to eat.

# If you must binge then eat lean meats, protein in the absence of carbohydrates will not make you fat, and it is more filling, if you stop eating sugar for a week or two the cravings will die down and you will no longer feel the urge to binge on junk.

# Eat negative calorie foods like celery that burn more calories in digestion than they have in them.

# Wear a 'fasting ring' or 'dedication ring', this is a symbol of your commitment to ana, whenever you feel the urge to binge or eat look at the ring and remember what you want. The craving will pass

# Vary the amount of calories you take in, this will prevent your metabolism from slowing down too much

[More Tips to help you remain faithful to Ana]

If you receive junk food as a gift, throw it away immediately so that you wont be tempted to eat it.

Paint your nails - the stench of the nail varnish and remover will cause you not to want food and will prevent you from being able to get any for a while.

Rubber bands - Put a rubber band on your wrist and if you start thinking about eating, snap the rubber band, you then start to associate eating with pain.

Chew on ice - Keeps your mouth busy and gives you something to crunch into, also the coldness will burn calories and the ice will count towards your water intake! <BR

Think about all the starving people in the world, if they can go so long without food, you DEFINITELY can, with all those fat reserves of your.

Drink a glass of water every hour; it will make you feel full.

Eat one meal a day, preferably in the morning, this will help curb cravings and make a binge MUCH less likely.

If you live on your own or have a lot of privacy, stick up pictures of skinny models around the house on the fridge and freezers and cupboards (remember to take them down when you have visitors) and ALWAYS carry one around with you. When you're hungry pull out the picture.

In between each mouthful of food that you eat, take a sip of water, it fills you up and slows down your eating so that you remain in control.

Drink ICE COLD WATER - it burns calories because your body has to work to keep your temperature up.

Sleep at least 6 hrs a night, less than 6 hrs sleep stimulates your appetite by 15%.

Spicy foods raise your metabolism and burn slightly more calories than normal foods.

Before you give in to the temptation to eat, slowly count to 100, by the time you finish counting you will have renewed determination and will not need to eat the crap.

Drink more hot drinks - hot liquids expand in your stomach and make you feel full.

Write a 'wish list'; include all the things you will do when you lose weight.

Reward yourself when you lose a certain amount of weight/ have stuck to your food goals for a week... this gives you something to aim for. But NEVER a food reward.

If you NEED to eat the bad food, chew it in your mouth to get the taste and then spit it out - Be warned this can increase some people's cravings.

Take magnesium tablets if you crave chocolate, it really helps.

Sit up straight; you'll burn at least 10% more calories just by doing this.

Persuade yourself that you don't like food, take your favorite food and when you look at it think of how gross it is.

Chant, "food is bad, food is evil, food is terrible, food equals fat", over and over again and you wont want to eat anymore.

Move and fidget all the time, it keeps you burning calories even when sitting down.

7) Watching people eat can also make you more determined. You'll feel stronger watching them give in to food. You're superior and don't want to grow disgustingly fat like them. You'll also feel better afterwards knowing that your didn't give in to your hunger.

8) If you live alone or with someone who'd dieting you can place pictures of either disgustingly obese people or pictures of models in the kitchen where the fattening foods you crave are kept.

Clean something you find truly discussing (the litter box and toilet work just fine). Afterwards you won't feel like eating for another couple of hours.

11) Listen to other people eat. It sounds so gross you'll lose your appetite.

13) Print out the thin commandments your favorite quotes and articles and read them over and over (that works 4 m

[Don't sin!!]

"Hunger hurts, but starving works."

# My number one tip would be to stay out of the house. I usually go to the library straight after school because it prevents me from giving into the 4pm binge time because I am in a place that I can't eat in, and my family cannot nag me for staying out.

The craving will pass.

Letter from Ana

From Ana:

Allow me to introduce myself. My name, or as I am called by so-called "doctors", is Anorexia. Anorexia Nervosa is my full name, but you may call me ana. Hopefully we can become great partners. In the coming time, I will invest a lot of time in you, and I expect the same from you.

In the past you have heard all of your teachers and parents talk about you. You are "so mature", "intelligent", "14 going on 45", and you possess "so much potential". Where has that gotten you, may I ask? Absolutely nowhere! You are not perfect, you do not try hard enough, and further more you waste your time on thinking and talking with friends and drawing! Such acts of indulgence shall not be allowed in the future.

Your friends do not understand you. They are not truthful. In the past, when the insecurity has quietly gnawed away at your mind, and you asked them, "Do I look.... fat?" and they answered "Oh no, of course not" you knew they were lying! Only I tell the truth. Your parents, let's not even go there! You know that they love you, and care for you, but part of that is just that they are your parents and are obligated to do so. I shall tell you a secret now: deep down inside themselves, they are disappointed with you. Their daughter, the one with so much potential, has turned into a fat, lazy, and undeserving girl.

But I am about to change all that. I will expect you to drop your calorie intake and up your exercise. I will push you to the limit. You must take it because you cannot defy me! I am beginning to imbed myself into you. Pretty soon, I am with you always. I am there when you wake up in the morning and run to the scale. The numbers become both friend and enemy, and the frenzied thoughts pray for them to be lower than yesterday, last night, etc. You look into the mirror with dismay. You prod and poke at the fat that is there, and smile when you come across bone. I am there when you figure out the plan for the day: 400 calories, 2 hours exercise. I am the one figuring this out, because by now my thoughts and your thoughts are blurred together as one. I follow you throughout the day. In school, when your mind wanders I give you something to think about. Recount the calories for the day. It's too much. I fill your mind with thoughts of food, weight, calories, and things that are safe to think about. Because now, I am already inside of you. I am in your head, your heart, and your soul. The hunger pains you pretend not to feel is I, inside of you.

Pretty soon I am telling you not only what to do with food, but what to do ALL of the time. Smile and nod. Present yourself well. Suck in that fat stomach, damm it! God, you are such a fat cow!!!! When mealtimes come around I tell you what to do. I make a plate of lettuce seem like a feast fit for a king. Push the food around. Make it look like you've eaten something. No piece of anything...if you eat, all the control will be broken...do you WANT that?? To revert back to the fat COW you once were?? I force you to stare at magazine models. Those perfect skinned, white teethed, waifish models of perfection staring out at you from those glossy pages. I make you realize that you could never be them. You will always be fat and never will you be as beautiful as they are. When you look in the mirror, I will distort the image. I will show you obesity and hideousness. I will show you a sumo wrestler where in reality there is a starving child. But you must not know this, because if you knew the truth, you might start to eat again and our relationship would come crashing down.

Sometimes you will rebel. Hopefully not often though. You will recognize the small rebellious fiber left in your body and will venture down to the dark kitchen. The cupboard door will slowly open, creaking softly. Your eyes will move over the food that I have kept at a safe distance from you. You will find your hands reaching out, lethargically, like a nightmare, through the darkness to the box of crackers. You shove them in, mechanically, not really tasting but simply relishing in the fact that you are going against me. You reach for another box, then another, then another. Your stomach will become bloated and grotesque, but you will not stop yet. And all the time I am screaming at you to stop, you fat cow, you really have no self control, you are going to get fat.

When it is over you will cling to me again, ask me for advice because you really do not want to get fat. You broke a cardinal rule and ate, and now you want me back. I'll force you into the bathroom, onto your knees, staring into the void of the toilet bowl. Your fingers will be inserted into your throat, and, not without a great deal of pain, your food binge will come up. Over and over this is to be repeated, until you spit up blood and water and you know it is all gone. When you stand up, you will feel dizzy. Don't pass out. Stand up right now. You fat cow you deserve to be in pain! Maybe the choice of getting rid of the guilt is different. Maybe I chose to make you take laxatives, where you sit on the toilet until the wee hours of the morning, feeling your insides cringe. Or perhaps I just make you hurt yourself, bang your head into the wall until you receive a throbbing headache. Cutting is also effective. I want you to see your blood, to see it fall down your arm, and in that split second you will realize you deserve whatever pain I give you. You are depressed, obsessed, in pain, hurting, reaching out but no one will listen? Who cares?!?!! You are deserving; you brought this upon yourself.

Oh, is this harsh? Do you not want this to happen to you? Am I unfair? I do do things that will help you. I make it possible for you to stop thinking of emotions that cause you stress. Thoughts of anger, sadness, desperation, and loneliness can cease because I take them away and fill your head with the methodic calorie counting. I take away your struggle to fit in with kids your age, the struggle of trying to please everyone as well. Because now, I am your only friend, and I am the only one you need to please.

I have a weak spot. But we must not tell anyone. If you decide to fight back, to reach out to someone and tell them about how I make you live, all hell will break lose. No one must find out, no one can crack this shell that I have covered you with. I have created you, this thin, perfect, achieving child. You are mine and mine alone. Without me, you are nothing. So do not fight back. When others comment, ignore them. Take it into stride, forget about them, forget about everyone that tries to take me away. I am your greatest asset, and I intend to keep it that way.

Sincerely,

Ana

· ~Exercise before you eat, because after exercise, your metabolism is largely sped up. for a few hours Therefore, most of the food you eat in those hours is burned.

· ~Exercise whenever you have free time. Its great for you at anytime during the day but try to excercise before lunch and/or before dinner. Remember exercise is an excellent stress reliever and to top it all off, its great for your body.

· ~ Swimming is the healthiest type of excercise you can do. It is an aerobic work out that is great for your heart and doesn't stress your knees and ankles, like running often does.

· ~If you do not have access to a pool, try running on a treadmill or around your neighborhood. If possible, use an eliptical treadmill because they are made to release stress on your knee and ankle joints.

· ~ When running or doing on land excercises, try to wear layers. Excersize in sweat pants and a sweat shirt (if you can stand it) even if it is hot!! Here's why: the hotter you get, the more you sweat. The more you sweat, the more weight you lose.

· ~ If you really want to, you can buy deodorant that has no anti-persperant. It sounds gross but anti-persperants keep sweat from coming out of your skin pores. With an deodorant that eliminates odors yet doesn't prevent sweat, you are likely to lose more weight. However if you plan to be out in public this is probably not a great idea. ~Drink water before meals and a lot throughout the day, it helps your body get rid of the food you eat instead of storing it all as fat.

· ~Eat a big breakfast, a medium sized lunch and a small dinner. Try to make dinner the smallest meal of the day and try not to eat it, or anything else for that matter, after 6 o'clock in the evening.

· ~ As for foods you should avoid while trying to lose weight healthily, you should avoid white bread (I recommend wheat for a similar dietary supplement), any bagels with the exception of wheat, alfredo sauce, avoid over-eating pastas but a controlled amount is fine, avoid sugary sweats and candy.

· ~Avoid heavy snacking when possible. ~Remember: A key to dieting is don't snack or overeat unless you're hungry!

· ~EAt red meat about once or twice per week maximum

· ~ Avoid eating products with excess amounts of sodium in them, such as soda (even diet sodas).

· ~Try to eat a lot of protein which can easily be found in dairy products. But try to avoid cheeses because of their fat level. Instead, try eating lots of healthy and flavorful yogurts.

Taken from ~Perfectly Anorexic~

· -drink lots and lots of water! The cooler the better. A lot of times when you think you're hungry you're really just thirsty, plus, drinking a lot of water helps your body feel fuller. And drinking cold water speeds up your metabolism and burns more calories.

· -get enough sleep every night. Tiredness increases appetite.

· -sit up straight! Slouching burns 15% less calories than if you sit up.

· -Be active. If you're sitting at a desk or watching tv, get up every 15 minutes or so to walk around. If you're at school/work and you can't get up to walk around, tap your fingers, your feet, anything to burn extra calories!

· -the opaque cup trick. If forced to eat under supervision, put the food in your mouth and chew it up, looking like you're really enjoying it. But don't swallow! Instead, pretend to take a sip from a non see through cup but really spit the food into it.

· -Instead of using regular sized plates, use child sized. This will trick your mind into thinking you're eating more than you really are because since the plate is small it looks fuller. This may also trick family/friends into thinking you're eating more.

· -Avoid nibbling during the day. Those extra calories really add up!

· -Every time you go into the kitchen, chew a piece of (sugarless) gum or chew on ice cubes to avoid nibbling and temptations.

· -If your family starts getting suspicious, hang around the kitchen a lot and pretend you're eating. Open a bag, leave a few crumbs around, you know the routine.

· -If people start saying they're worried about your weight loss, get really upset and say how mad you get every time somebody comments on your naturally skinny body. Complain a lot about how you wish you could gain weight so people would stop making rude remarks. They should get the hint.

· -When you're craving a certain food, think of how it was before it became food and the process it went through. For example, if you're craving McDonalds chicken nuggets, imagine the chicken as a live animal and how it got killed, processed, etc.

· -Don't use the chew and sipit method!! When you chew the food some of the calories get absorbed and don't all come out when it is spit out. Some of the calories still remain in your body.

· -If you crave chocolate a lot, try taking a magnesium supplement. One of the reasons that women crave chocolate is because it contains magnesium and 75% of women in the U.S. are magnesium deficient.

· -Don't brush your teeth after purging! That only seals the stomach acid into your teeth. Instead, brush before purging and rinse with a mouthwash after. If you brush your teeth before the toothpaste acts as a base so the stomach acid won't do as much damage.

· -Drink caffeine, it's an appetite suppressant.

· -Take a hot bath, hot water suppresses appetite and also raises your metabolism.

· -Keep a food diary and write in it every morsel that enters your mouth along with the calorie content and time. This will help you keep track of your trouble spots.

· -Make a scrapbook of skinny models (or fat, whatever works best for you) and look at it whenever you feel like eating.

· -Make a list of safe foods and stick to the list! Don't eat anything that isn't on it.

Taken from Fat Like Me

GENERAL

· Water. We absolutely must drink water to survive, and it has zero calories, so there's no excuse to not drink it. As we typically get much of our water content through foods, when we reduce food intake we begin to dehydrate ourselves, which is dangerous. Also, cold water chills the body and may raise metabolism to get warm again.

· Vitamins and minerals. We must have these, too, to survive and so again there is no excuse to not take at least a basic daily multivitamin (which may help reduce some cravings as well). Vitamins are vital in keeping our bodies functioning and our skin / hair / teeth nice. Particularly be aware of electrolytes (potassium, magnesium, salt, along with water balance) and calcium.

· Protein. Protein is necessary, particularly if you're exercising. It maintains and repairs our muscles, including heart muscle, which is (last I heard) kind of a requisite for continued survival.

· Watch fat intake. Fat has, per gram, more calories than any other source of energy and is stored more easily. Switch to lowfat everything, then progress to nonfat. Nonfat food tends to taste like crap (in my opinion) and you may end up eating less because of that Caffeine. While caffeine can be an appetite suppressant and can increase your metabolism, it will also act as a diuretic. Drink a glass of water for each cup of tea, coffee, or diet soda you have. Again, dehydration is a potentially serious problem.

· Always read labels to avoid nasty surprises. This happens to me all the time and makes for some panicky stress-moments. Also, look up food charts and be aware of the caloric / nutritional content of everything you eat.

· Understand yourself. Learn what you need, and when, and why. Everyone is unique and there are no hard-and-fast universally applicable laws. Our bodies are very good at telling us what we need, and knowing what you need gives control over how you choose to satisfy those needs.

· Find your binge triggers, be they food or places or people or feelings. Avoid them at all costs. Figure out more acceptable ways of dealing with those triggers than stuffing yourself silly. Learn when you tend to eat and why you eat then in particular. Plan to be doing something unrelated to food at those times. Many of us find night to be the hardest time to avoid food.

· Get plenty of sleep. Steal naps whenever you can and rest when you need to rest. Sleep deprivation increases appetite and makes you age faster.

· SELF CONTROL

· Keep a food diary. Write down everything you eat and anything else you feel might be helpful to know. This will allow you to measure progress and track patterns over time.

· Set yourself rules regarding food. Pick ones that you know you can follow and stick with them. Then, keeping these, gradually add on more rules until your eating is entirely under control. It's hard to restrict yourself all the way at once, and more effective to do it in increments. The idea here is to sort of sneak up on yourself in tiny little stages, adapting to each new rule before making another.

· Reward yourself, don't punish. Punishment is not effective and will do more emotional harm than physical good. Calculate how much money you're saving by not eating and add this up until you have enough to buy something you like (but not food). Or, put a penny (dollar, marble) in a jar for every small goal you keep and treat yourself with something (not food) once you reach a certain amount. Remember that these rewards will last longer and give more pleasure than food you would just eat, proccess, and discard.

· Eat slowly, in small bites. Cut your food up into small pieces. Pause while eating to drink water or whatever other liquid you enjoy. It takes a while for "full" signals to get from our stomach to our brain. Also, if you eat over a longer period of time and add more liquids, it can trick your mind into thinking you've eaten more.

· Take out only the amount of food you plan on eating. Wrap everything securely up before you start eating and put it away. Don't go back for seconds. Don't nibble while preparing food, either. Those bites and crumbles add up staggeringly fast.

· Think about food before and while you eat it. Think about where it came from and exactly what happened to it before it reached you. This works particularly well with meat, dairy, and egg products.

· Food associations. Find something that makes you feel vaguely ill or unpleasant, get a picture of it, and put the picture beside your food. Switch pictures frequently and make sure to look at the pictures while you eat. After a while you may began to associate food itself with unpleasantness, which will make you less inclined to eat.

· Give yourself permission before eating. Stop and think about it, consider if you really want to eat whatever-it-is. If your answer is yes, then say (or think) something like "I'm allowed to eat this" or "I have permission to eat this".

· Plan your meals in advance, for the day or week or whatever. Decide what you are allowed to eat each day. If you know that you will be eating, it may help you avoid eating other things.

· If you feel yourself starting to lose control while you're eating, stop. Set your food down, take a long drink of water or some other cool liquid, and take a deep breath before resuming eating. This can help interrupt a slide into binge-mode. Remember to remind yourself that you are still going to finish your food and that you aren't stopping, just pausing for a moment.

· Sabotage your food. Make it with too much water, too little sugar, an ingredient you don't care for. Add too much salt or pepper before you eat. You will eat less of it if it tastes bad.

· Others

· About weighing yourself. Everyone has different methods here that work for them. Many people get discouraged with weighing themselves every day, because our weight is not a stable thing and can vary drastically from little insignificant things. Try to get a better overall picture through the fit of your clothing instead.

· Throw food away before you eat it. A lot of people feel guilty and don't like to toss food. There's nothing wrong with this. Remember, though, that food gets discarded any way you look at it... purging, digesting, tossing... and isn't it better to get rid of the food before it puts fat on you instead of after? If you still hate to discard food, see how much of it you can donate to your local shelters and community service programs.

· Apple cider vinegar (or possibly vinegar in general). It may help raise metabolism and burn fat. It may for you work as an appetite suppressant. Be careful, though, it may also hurt your stomach or cause nausea. Don't take more than a couple teaspoonfuls at a time. Try it mixed with honey in a glass of water, or in diet 7up or other clear carbonated soda about twenty minutes before eating, you may feel full quicker or decide not to eat at all.

· Eat dense foods. They'll feel like more in your stomach. Light or fluffy foods tend to compact, and don't fill you up as well. Drink lots of liquids.

· Avoid refined foods. They're in large part empty calories, and they don't satisfy the body or supply good solid nutritional requirements. The closer to natural you eat, the more value you get per bite, and the less you'll need to eat. Substitute whole grains for white flour and raw sugar for refined white sugar particularly.

· Don't fill up on bread. It's deceptive. Six slices of bread can feel the same as one sandwich in your stomach, and it gets processed very quickly. If you do eat bread eat whole-wheat or grain bread, which will feel denser in your stomach as well as be healthier for your digestive system. Make a sandwich with vegetables or low-fat cottage cheese or salsa instead of eating bread plain.

· Avoid alcohol and other drugs. Anything that can affect you will affect you more strongly and in different ways, and anything that affects your mind will lower your level of control. I hear the munchies are a nightmare when you're trying to lose weight, and waking up with a hangover surrounded by half-eaten food evidence can't be too much better.

· Be careful with over-the-counter weight loss products, including the natural and herbal ones. They speed up your metabolism, yes, but they're designed to be taken with a decent amount of food and can be very very bad for your heart, head, digestive system, and nervous system if you use them with a severely restricted food intake. They can also mess up your sleep cycles, and people with irregular sleep cycles tend to eat more. I would suggest half doses to start with since they'll have more of an effect on someone eating very little, and watch for signs of panic, anxiety, or irritability.

· Don't get discouraged with yourself. You didn't put on weight overnight, and it won't come off overnight either. These things take time, and time will pass no matter how much you're eating.

Drink as much water as possible per day (I suggest bringing a bottle with you everywhere you go)

-Take muli vitamins and calcium supluments daily

-Exercise in the morning before you eat anything

-Try to eat 6 small thing/meals a day

Do not jump straight into a fast, you need to work your way down to not get very sick

-Eat alone so that you can focus on the food and notice how much you eat (no TV!)

-At the same time, if people are giving you a hard time about not eating, only eat in front of them so that they think you do eat regulary

-Drink an 8 oz glass of water before you eat anything each time

-Move around whenever possible (stand when you could sit or keep some part of you moving when you are sitting)

-Eat negative calorie foods daily (look in the food section to see some)

-Hot tea helps control hunger pains

-Exercise at the same time everyday, even if it's for 20 minutes, you will get used to doing it

-Buy a pair of pants or an outfit that is at your goal size...try it on every now and then to see how close you are instead of weighing yourself all of the time

-When you get a craving, make the food you want or open it or whatever. When it's in front of you, destroy it. Pour dish soap, hair gel, salt, or anything on it so that you will not eat it. Throw it in the trash and you'll be so grossed out with yourself, you will not want to eat anything the rest of the night!!

-If you can, keep a picture (even still in a magazine) with you or near where you eat so that you can look at that body you want...motivation!

-Keep busy! Especially at night when you are prone to binge, find something to do that keeps your hands busy. Try on clothes, do your nails, write in a journal or to a friend...anything to stay busy until you are tired!

-Get enough sleep for your body to be fully functional (6-8 hours is usually good) and your metabolism working hard.

- I urge everyone to use these sites or talk to people you can trust with this information about your self and your body image. It helps to get it out... this way you know you aren't crazy.

How to hide Ana

*Don't raise suspicions. Once people realise what you're doing, you'll be watched and monitored and suspected.

*Go in the kitchen and look in the fridge, it will seem suspicious is your never in there. Find foods that you would have eaten and get rid of them.

*Don't bring up the subject of food around other people. Have your excuses for not eating ready in case they should bring the subject up. Some excuses I use : 'I'll have something later' or 'I have already eaten'.

*Don't get angry. Don't deny everything if confronted. People will believe a little truth with a big lie much easier than a huge lie. Act as if it's no big deal instead of reacting emotionally and people will tend to believe you.

*Don't show off your weight loss until you've reached the weight you want to remain at. People will start to watch you more carefully and maybe ask questions.

-Eat fibre, it fill you up and cleanses your digestive track.

-Throw away food you'll be tempted to eat and then tell your mother, father etc that you ate it.

-Read magazines, it'll keep you busy and you can look at models you want to be like.

-Buy clothes too small, this is a great way of making sure you lose weight.

-Take multivitimins, they'll keep you looking healthy.

-Sit up straight, this burns 10% more cals!

Advice

-Never go food shopping on a totally empty stomatch or you'll crave foods that are bad when you get there.

-If you slip e.g eat chocolate- dont give up and binge, realsise that we all need a treat sometimes and then get back on track.

-Treat yourself to something you like at least once a week otherwise you'll crave for it and may binge.

-Although it may be hard; exercise!!! If you dont like it (like me), go for a long walk or even dance, maybe go for lessons or by yourself to one of your fave songs.

-We all have our bad days or even weeks so when this happens, dont worry or panic. Ana is hard sometimes and its just a challenge.

Fasting Fasting isn't starvation! ! !

The Good and Bad bits -It focuses the body on burning up and clearing toxins. -It's great for losing weight! ! ! -Breaks down cancer cells and other illnesses. -Also breaks down...built up chemicals, BODY FAT, and transformed fatty acids. -You have 2 drink between 8-10 glasses a day. -You have to stay clear of exercise as your body will be weak. -You will suffer from dizziness, especially when getting up from being sat or lay down. -May cause blackouts if you go for a long fast. -Juice fasting can cause extreme bowl movement. -Take multi-vitimins as the body may lack in this area.

WATER FASTING -This will mainly benefit people with a low metaboliam as it gathers lots of energy and they will find it easier compared to lower metabolisms who will lose energy and probably feel drowned out. -Water dieting is one long detoxification, the long detox. -Water fasting demands mental pereperation, clear your calender for the amount of days your planning to fast for. -Water fasting is proven to be more difficult that juice fasting as the body is getting no calories or nutrients.

JUICE FASTING -There are alot of nutrients in fresh juice that energizes the body's natural regenerative abilities. -This system of removing waste and supplying a full spectrum of nutrients has an advantage over any weight loss programme. -Drinking less juice supplies fewer calories therefore increasing detoxification. -Juice diet drinks include: fresh juice, herbal tea, vegetable broth and Barley green/water.

fast 1 : to abstain from food 2 : to eat sparingly or abstain from some foods

fasting is widely misunderstood. many people believe that anyone who stops eating for more than several hours is starving themself, but to starve (according to merriam webster) is to perish from lack of food, to kill with hunger, to destroy by or cause to suffer from deprivation. the word starve is actually derived from a latin word meaning "to die".

fasting can be an incredible spiritual experience, besides the weight loss and health benefits.

when you're free of food you gain an enormous amount of clarity in making decisions, understanding and thinking in general. your senses, besides taste, are heightened (like with the loss of any sense, the other four become stronger). your eyes become whiter and your skin looks clear and healthy. your body is being refreshed.

normally your body spends a huge amount of energy digesting food - part of the reason why after eating you feel very tired. a lot of this food is unnecessary and a waste of energy to digest. today most people's digestive system is always working because so many people don't understand that you do not need to eat every time your stomach is empty! when your body doesn't have to use so much energy digesting food, it can focus energy on healing other parts and releasing the toxins from your body. your body, whether you realize it or not, contains a huge amount of toxins that build up after years of eating inorganic foods and being in certain environments. many people, when they fast for long or often enough, will go through a "cleansing crisis", in which they will feel very ill, feverish and sometimes naucious, when all of the toxins are being excreted from their body.

there are water-fasts and juice-fasts. water fasts are more difficult because you are drinking only water, getting no calories or nutrients. juice provides a minimal amount of calories and necessary nutrients. the amount of weight loss in each kind is pretty close.

obviously there are no rules for a fast, you can drink whatever you want. i personally recommend drinking water, herbal tea, and "clear" juices or broths during a juice fast. there are a lot of really good herbal teas that are especially for fasting, dieting and detox which can usually be found at health food stores and the likes. by clear juices i mean juices without pulp or anything else in, just pure liquid. it's your choice of how many juice calories you want to take in each day.

i think that days 2-4 are the most difficult when beginning any kind of fast, just because you're getting used to it and easing out of your solid food habits. the best way to avoid giving in to cravings is to avoid being around food or other people who are eating, but i wouldn't recommend telling anyone about your fast unless you think they'll be supportive.

blood circulation won't be at its best during a fast because your metabolism slows down, so you should stretch and do some kind of exercise every day, like walking.

Being thin and perfect are signs of true dedication* ~*MORE TIPS*~ THESE ARE FROM ANOREXIC ADDICT.... http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/BOUC2329/home.htm Eat spicy foods. They raise metabolism. Drink ice water. It also raises your metabolism, keeps you full, and clears your complexion. Keep a thinsperation book. Get a really nice journal or something and print pictures of skinny models, tips, quotes, or workouts, and glue it in there. Look through it whenever you want to binge. Keep a stack of magazines weighing the same amount you want to lose. When you lose weight remove some magazines from the stack. It will be thinsperational to see that pile slowly start to get smaller. Eat on a blue or black plate. Dark colors usually make you feel fuller, faster. Better yet, eat on small dark plates. It's another one of those phycological things. When you want to eat something you shouldn't, make a list of all the reasons you shouldn't, and read it 20 times. When you get a craving, count to 100 really slowly, and it will probably pass. If you live by yourself, put up motivational pictures or numbers on the unsafe foods. Stick your goal weight to the peanut butter jar, and glue gisele's stomach to the cheese. Drink coffee to fill you up. If you drink it on an empty stomach, it makes you feel somewhat nauseous. Green Tea is supposed to raise metabolism, so drink that too. When your at school, and can't get up and run around, fidget constantly. Tap your feet, bounce your knees, anything to keep your metabolism going. And when your sitting at the computer, get up every 20 minutes or so and do 25 jumping jacks so your metabolism doesn't slow down too much. Take cold showers because your body has to burn calories trying to heat your back up. While your at it, set the air conditioner for like 10 degrees below normal. Get one of those three ring binders and make a section for each part of the body. Put all the exercises you've got in there according to what body part there for. Pick one food for the day, like an apple. Cut it into 4 quarters. Eat one part for breakfast, one for lunch, one for dinner, and you've got one left over for a snack. Don't take laxatives. They don't make you lose weight. All they do is flush out the already digested crap inside your large intestine. All the calories have already been absorbed. Don't take diuretics. They do flush out water but you'll get dehydrated, and then your body will hold onto every drop of water it can. You'll end up gaining water weight in the end. Take a polaroid picture of yourself wearing nothing but your underwear. When you want to binge, look at it, and see all that fat that you need to get rid of? Carry it in your wallet whenever you go somewhere where there will be food. Wear gooey lipstick. If you eat your going to have to reaply it, because it will be smudged all over the place. When your home by yourself and you want to binge, pretend that there is someone there with you. Like your husband, boyfriend, or crush. Imagine what a pig they'd think you were if they saw you eating all that stuff. If you live by yourself and prone to binges, buy only the food you need for the day. That way if you eat it, there isn't anymore. Brush your teeth constantly. Who wants to spoil that fresh, minty, clean feeling with food? Besides, most foods don't taste good after brushing, so why eat them? When you go to a restaraunt order something you know you don't like and tell people you want to try something new. Then say your not eating because you don't like the food. Eat using chopsticks. This way eating is slower and more controlled. Another thing you can do is eat with the opposite hand you normally do. Left handed people eat with their right hand, and vice versa. Figure out what makes you binge. If it's boredom, always have something to do. If it's stress invest in some yoga or meditation. Dodgeing the Suspicous Always be in the kitchen. Make it seem like your always raiding the fridge. Buy a bag of chips and pour them in the trash can. Then leave the bag on the kitchen counter. Do the same thing with candy bars, ice cream wrappers, etc. Complain to your parents about how skinny some celebrities are and they need to gain weight. Stage a conversation over the phone about how you don't think you need to lose weight. Tell your parents that your going to eat with your friends. Then go to your friends house and say you already ate at home. If you've got parents that are always wanting to eat with you, join a club or take up a sport that gets in the way of eating with your parents. Everyone knows that it hurts to chew when you've got a tooth ache, so complain that your teeth hurt. Really play it up if you've got braces. To make it look like you've eaten put a tiny bit of cereal and some milk in a bowl and leave it in the sink. Then empty some of the cereal out of the box. Get a job that you'll have to work at through meal times. Say you just brushed your teeth. Food tastes nasty right after brushing.

10 Commandments

1. Thou shall not eat because you ARE a big fat cow. No one wants to tell you. But you know. ~

2. Thou shall not eat because you will never have any friends. Think of the people you most want to be like, and remember, unless you are thin and beautiful, they will never accept you. ~

3. Thou shall not eat because you are lazy. You don't move enough!!! You stop moving. You let your metabolism slow down. And then, the calories aren' burned!!! ~

4. Thou shall not eat because if you do, you'll never be able to wear beautiful clothes. No one will care what you're wearing anyways. All they're see is you. And all of your fat!!! ~

5. Thou shall not eat because if you do, you will never be what you want to be in life. Nobody wants to hire a fat person. Nobody wants to see a fat entertainer. Nobody wants a fat doctor. So nobody will want you. ~

6. Thou shall not eat because boys will never like you. They will laugh at you. ~

7. Thou shall not eat because eating causes pain. And nobody likes pain. You will spend all of you life crying. And hiding in the pain and shadows. ~

8. Thou shall not eat because then you will prove everyone right. Think back to your trigger. That person, or the people who called you fat. Think of them. If you eat, you wll prove them right. ~

9. Thou shall not eat because unless you are thin, you will never be beautiful. ~

10. Thou shall not eat because thou does not need to. No one does. Eating, is never necessary.~~~~

Hey everybody! I don't mean to be too harsh here, I'm just telling you the truth. These are my commandments made general so everyone can use and see them. I hope they help, but please, don't take it too personally

========================================

What NEVER to do

Okay we all go through our fits of rage and do things we shouldn't right? Well this is to help you stay strong and NOT to those things! I hope this helps!!! ~*~ First and formost, DO NOT PURGE!!! I'm not joking about this one guys! It is not good! Sure, you barf up that 250 cal sandwich. But think about it, you have to endure the pain of throwing it up, and then the side effects of the stomach ache, the watery eyes, the headache, is it really worth it??? It's much easier to run on the treadmill for a half an hour than to barf it up. And it's not good for digestive track. You're going to mess yourself up seriously! BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!! DO NOT TAKE LAX OR IPECAC SYRUP!!! Barfing up your food is one thing, but this is just disgusting. It DOES NOT help you. In fact, the Ipecac Syrup can kill you. If you listen to only 1 thing I tell you, please listen to this. And the lax aren't good either. They can mess up your digestive lining, and if used repeatedly, can give you an ulcer!!! Doesn't sound so bad/ Wait until you're sitting on the floor crying your eyes out because it's burning through your digestive lining. It seriously messed me up. DO NOT DO IT!!! It is not worth it. Please remember, tomorrow you will do better. 250 cals compared to the 2000 you were suppose to have??? Sure, you feel gross, but you will be okay. Trust me!

======================================================

Distractions for you....

Okay, we all need distractions to keep us away from food. Here are some of my favorites!------------ 1. Keep a thinspiration book! It takes a lot of time and effort to work on. Keep searching for more tips, more pics, etc. 2. Build a web site. It keeps you far away from the kitchen and is a lot of motivation. 3. Get a job!!! Hey, work is good. It keeps you moving, keeps you busy, and hey, it gives you a little extra $$$! 4. WORK OUT!!! Nobody really really loves to work out all the time, but you need to! Get up, get moving. It doesn't matter if you are running on the treadmill, doing lunges, or whatever. Just keep moving. Tap your feet, do take a walk to the library, or walk to the store. KEEP MOVING!!! 5. Take time for yourself! Listen to music, take a walk, give yourself a manicure, take a bubble bath. Just relax, and give yourself a little attention.

======================================

Here are a few recipes to get you going. If you have any to add, PLEASE e-mail me. I will be sure to credit you. This part really isn't my Forte, but people said they wanted to see it...

1.) Ice Cream Craving Stoppers- Mix 1 box, fat-free instant pudding w/ 2 cups cold milk. Mix well. Then pour it into an ice tray. Let freeze. (This is great everybody. At about 5 cals per ice cube, you can afford just one. Plus, they take forever to eat!)<*>

2.) Chocolate Mousse- So you want something more refined? Try this. Beat 2 egg whites together with 1 packet of equal. Just grab one in a restaurant! Beat until it starts to stiffen. Then, add 2 teaspoons cocoa. Beat until stiff peaks form. Only about 50 cals for the WHOLE BOWL!<*>

3. Looking for something just to drink? Try this smoothie! Youi just need 3/4 cup FROZEN, sliced bananas, 1/2 cup FROZEN blueberries, (or strawberries), 1 cup Low Fat Plain Soy Milk, and 1 tablespoon sugar. (I use splenda. It has 0 cals!!!) Add all ingredients into blender and whirl until slushy! <*>

ANA PRAYER

Ana,

In your depravity grant me the intellect to recognize you, the perception to dissemble about you, and the naïveté to appreciate you.In your cruelty endow me with the perfectionism to seek you, the guile to disguise you, the strength to withstand stabbing hunger pains, and the vulnerability to accede to you.

In your ruthlessness bestow on me intelligence to contemplate you, senses to feel your inflicted pain, eyes to see the benefits of your vicious embrace, and long torturous nights to think of you. In your mercilessness confer on me an inability to escape you, the powerlessness to deny you, and the insecurity to obsess over you.

Grant me a perfect end - your holy presence.

Amen.

This oriental-style vegetarian diet is low in fat, emphasizes whole grains and vegetables, and restricts fluids. These are some of the same dietary principles that have been found to help prevent heart disease. Low-fat high-fiber diets are also believed to play a role in preventing some types of cancer. And the macrobiotic emphasis on fresh, non-processed foods may prove helpful in dealing with certain food allergies and chemical sensitivities. Despite these benefits, few mainstream nutritionists endorse a strict macrobiotic diet. The selection of foods is so limited, they warn, that you can easily develop significant nutritional deficiencies. They add that while a macrobiotic diet may indeed reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer, it will not cure any specific disorder--including cancer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The macrobiotic diet is based not so much on Western nutritional principles as on elements of ancient Chinese philosophy. It is a nutritional attempt to balance the "complementary opposites" known as "yin" and "yang"--forces that the Chinese believed must be kept in harmony to achieve good health. These forces are woven into every aspect of life. Yin is said to be expansive, while yang is contractile; yin is cold, yang is hot; yin is wet, yang is dry; yin is slow, yang is fast; yin is passive, yang is aggressive; yin is sweet, yang is salty; yin is loose, yang is tight; yin is dark, yang is light. To the extent that these qualities are reflected in food, the macrobiotic dietary regimen strives to bring them into balance. Certain foods are said to be very yin, others very yang, and some in-between. The most balanced foods in the yin/yang continuum (though not necessarily in nutritional science) are brown rice and whole grains. Hence these foods constitute the foundation of the macrobiotic diet.

To this foundation, the macrobiotic regimen adds foods reflecting different degrees of yin and yang, selected in accordance with the individual's dietary needs and temperament. In practice, this usually works out to a diet consisting of:

50 to 60 percent whole grains. Grains include brown rice, barley, millet, oats, corn, rye, wheat, and buckwheat.

25 to 30 percent fresh vegetables. Especially recommended are cruciferous vegetables (members of the cabbage family) and other dark green and deep yellow vegetables. They should be grown organically, and locally if possible. Macrobiotic advocates recommend lightly steaming or boiling them, or sautéing them with a small amount of vegetable oil. For purposes of the macrobiotic diet, vegetables fall into three categories:

--Eat frequently: cruciferous vegetables, including arugula, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, kohlrabi, mustard greens, radishes, rutabaga, turnips, turnip greens, and watercress; Chinese cabbage, dandelion, onion, daikon, orange squashes, pumpkin

--Eat occasionally: celery, iceberg lettuce, mushrooms, snow peas, string beans

--Avoid: potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, asparagus, spinach, beets, zucchini, avocado

5 to 10 percent beans, soy-based products, and sea vegetables. In this category, tofu (soy bean curd) is a favorite. Sea vegetables to consider include wakame, hiziki, dombu, noris, arame, agar-agar, and Irish moss.

5 to 10 percent soups. Miso soup, a broth made with soy bean paste, is a popular choice. Also permissible are soups made with vegetables, grains, seaweed, or beans.

Occasional treats: One to three times a week, a serving of seeds, nuts, fruits, or fish is considered acceptable.

Advocates suggest emphasizing local, in-season foods and avoiding processed, refined products. Completely proscribed are meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs, and warm drinks, all of which are considered too "yang" for consumption. Also to be avoided (because they are extremely "yin") are sweets and sugar, alcohol, coffee, caffeinated tea, and strong spices.

Take one or two aspirin a day. It raises metabolism. (unconfirmed)

Throw away foods that you think you might be tempted to binge on

Make a Pro Anorexia Journal~ Cut out inspiring pictures, articles, etc... also make a daily list of what you eat and your activities and subtract the calories you ate from the calories you used to find out how many extra calories you have used.

Sit up straight, you burn 10% more calories with a good posture.

Less than 6 hours sleep at nite stimulates your metabolism. (unconfirmed)

When dining out, no matter what the waiter says about the fat or calorie content of food assume everything is covered with butter, even the silverware!

if you're madly thinking about eating and you're around other people, listen to them eating, it is the most repulsive sound and it will definately kill your appetite and make you glad you're pure. *shudder* yick, it echoes in your head.

I have a very good tip for cravings..well.. this is what i do.. whenever i want crackers, i go downstairs to pretend like i'm eating.. meanwhile i'm pouring milk down the drain and such.. i walk upstairs with some crackers in my hand, like i'm gonna snack on them in my room.. i crush them up in my hands over the trash can and just smell my hands.. it gets rid of my craving.. its great! getting rid of food and cravings in one! ~cassie

Keep moving

On top of working out or dancing or whatever you do, increase your daily exercise other ways. Take stairs instead of elevators or escalators. Walk your dog. Walk to the corner store instead of driving. Choose the parking spot farthest from the store when you do drive. Sneak extra movement in wherever you can. Every little bit burns a few more calories.

Fiber supplements

Drink a big glass of sugar-free metamucil dissolved in diet juice before you eat or if you feel hungry. It has only about 20 cals, and makes you feel full, plus it has a laxative effect.

Exercise instead of eating

Make a rule about it, a set amount of crunches, squats, whatever, that you must do before you eat. Either the craving will pass, or you won't feel so bad about eating if you've exercised.

Think about it

Think about what you are eating. If it is meat, think about the animal it once was, if it is something else, imagine the process it went through before it reached your plate. If you really think about it, a lot of food is really disgusting. You may lose your appetite for it.

Make a stack of magazines that weighs the amount you want to lose. As you lose, take off the appropriate amount of magazines. Seeing the weight like that may help you realize what a difference it will make when it is all off.

Become vegetarian or vegan

Eat only organic foods. It is more expensive, but healthier and makes it easier to lose by eliminating a lot of foods.

[The following from a friend]

1) drink one glass of water every hour. set your watch alarm to go off every hour to remind yourself .

2) eat negative calorie foods at least 2 times a day. my favorite is celerey with mustard on it.

3) weigh yourslef before and AFTER every time you eat. not only will it eliminate unnecessary eating, but it will make you want to eat LESS when you see the numbers creep up.

4) exercise 2 times the amount of calories you eat....for example..if you eat 300 calories you must exercise 600 off. this will MAKE you keep your calories low (unless you want to spend all day exersising!) and let you loose weight SOO much faster.

5) diet coke is always in hand. if you get hungry reach for it and sit down with a magazine to read. (or for me, i enjoy cutting out the models and pasting them in my binder. i have tons of pages filled with models...very inspirational)

6) feel your hunger..dont try to suppress it. if your hungry that means your loosing weight. you WANT to be hungry. if your not your not doing it right. in time you will get a wonderful high off of being hungry and thoroughly enjoy the sensation. hunger is not your enemy! the sooner that is realised the sooner you will reach your goals :)

7) place a jump rope by your bed--somewhere your sure to see. every morning when you wake up grab the jupe rope and do just five minutes. get a big thing of water and start your day! ....i also find 5 minutes of jump roping and then a few reps of lifting light weights (should only take 10 minutes..this is not meant to be a workout session) really helps! remember...the more muscle you have, the better you will look, and the more CALORIES you will burn at rest!

8) eat 6 small meals a day spaced about 3 hours apart. at 50 calories 6 times a day that is only 300 calories. your body will thank you and so will your metabolism! give it a boost!!

9) let yourself binge once a week. and ONLY ONCE. ..if you do this you must use some form of purging ...you actually loose weight FASTER if you binge and purge once a week in addition to starving! ...if you have never purged before i dont recomend it. you will be stuck with food you dont want.

10) eat standing up. move around while you eat. burn a few more calories. they all add up. even if you only burn 10 calories more each time you eat that is 60 more than you would by sitting down/day

11) eat vicariously. watch other people eat..and feel superior!!! you dont need that food. they are feeding their fat bodys..and theyre getting fatter!!! you can see then growing!!! how repulsive.

12) this tip will only work if you live alone or live with someone who dieting (or just doesnt care!) ...find pictures of overweight people and put them in various places around your house...put some near the tv..to remind you to exercise...put some near the trigger foods (you know the ones..) to remind you that THAT is how you will look if you eat that. If you are living with someone on a diet they will most likely agree to this if you tell them its a proven fact that it helps weight loss (and it is!).

13) find a buddy. compete. this works so very fast and effectively. you have to be the best. you have to loose weight faster..become better..skinnier. hurry hurry hurry! ...there is such a rush when you are competing ..you dont have time to think about the bad foods!

14) once a week treat yourself. and i dont mean with food! (the weekley binge does not count.) ...take a bubble bath..listen to relaxing music, get a massage, give yourself a manicure, a facial..etc. anything to pamper yourself...to relax ...as a destresser..and to reward yourslef for your good work for the week.

15.) if you didnt have a good week the above does not apply. you will begin to look forward to the little treats and be good simply so you can have them!

16) scrub a dub dub. did you know that there are 2 pounds of dead skin on you right now!!?! thats right! 2 POUNDS! ...if your underweight or in starvation mode your body does not "shed" its skin the way it should. it holds on to it. use an exfoliator for your face, and a loofa brush or scrub for your body. ..you will feel muuuch better. and who knows! you could just loose a pound or 2 ;)

17) use symbols. this may sound funny to some of you...or even most of you. but it wokrs for me. i have an anorexia ring. its like any other ring but when i wear it i cant be bad. ...i wear it all the time now except for that one binge. if im about to eat something bad i just look at the ring and think...NO! i cant. (hint..get a ring a little too small for your fingers...push it on...youll have a hard time getting it back off and while trying youll realise you dont really want the food.)

18.) spend a little time each day (even if its just 5-10 minutes) at pro anorexia sites..or reading your e-mails for motivation. youll come away and want to be GOOD GOOD GOOD! :)

19.) untill you reach your goal (or people start worrying about you) you want to wear tight jeans. baggy tops are great..but make sure your jeans are tight. its a constant reminder that you need to loose weight. ....if your problem is that people are starting to worry about you, or are commenting in a negative way...wear baggy jeans with stretch pants underneath...it gives you a little extra bulk. layering your clothing works, and then come short season....shock them! ;)

20) get in touch with your inner child. ever notice how (most anyway) little kids are skinny? they are always running around!!! take their example...invest in a trampoline (do you know how much you can sweat with those!? i love em!) go rollerblading, climb on the monkey bars....anything thats fun and active. you will be amazed how many more calories you can burn when your active.

21) i am not saying not to sleep. everyone needs to. but try to stay up a few more hours here and there....you burn more calories when your awake...even if your just watching tv!

22) exercise at night. after everyone is asleep you go down to exercise. not only will they have no clue your getting all that exercise and wonder how you can loose weight so easily (this is great for compulsive exercisers!...they wont know you have a problem!!!!) but you will start to feel superior. there they are sleeping...and your here burning off hundreds of calories ;).

23.) this is not a tip just a reminder. anorexia is always with you. it can be your best friend. its your "seceret weapon", it makes you better... embrace it..dont fight it. wheather you are here because you want to be anorexic or because you already are, were all one in the same. wanting it is the disease already started. dont be afraid of it. just go with it ;)

Plan your day~ Try to decide what you will eat and when, so you don't have to discover after the fact that you have gone over your calorie limit.

Put up inspirational photos in the cupboards, in the fridge, near the scale, anywhere that you need encouragement. Put pictures depicting obesity near foods you are likely to binge on.

Read the nutritional information Remember, fat-free does not mean calorie-free. Also keep an eye on fiber content. Get as much fiber into your diet as you can, while cutting fat and calories.

Get more exercise On top of working out or dancing or whatever you do, increase your daily exercise other ways. Take stairs instead of elevators or escalators. Walk your dog. Walk to the corner store instead of driving. Choose the parking spot farthest from the store when you do drive. Sneak extra movement in wherever you can. Every little bit burns a few more calories.

Clean something. Cleaning something dirty can make you lose your appetite. The toilet, the litter box, under the kitchen sink, scrubbing out the garbage bin, anything grimy or smelly. The mess, along with the smell of the cleaner, can put you off food for a while.

When you feel hungry, exercise before you give in to the hunger. Make a rule about it, a set amount of crunches, squats, whatever, that you must do before you eat. Either the craving will pass, or you won't feel so bad about eating if you've exercised.

Become vegetarian or vegan. Eat only organic foods. It is more expensive, but healthier and makes it easier to lose by eliminating a lot of foods.

Work somewhere food related. It may help you become disgusted with food.

Try not to eat until you absolutely have to. If you eat all your allowed calories right away during the day, you aren't leaving room for any possible slip ups later on.

i love going with people when they are eating and just watching them. you can't be elegant or beautiful while you're eating. whether you are opening your mouth wide or chewing or wiping food off your face, food is always messy. also, just imagine how much fat they are putting into their bodies. while you sip a diet coke, they're eating fries and cheeseburgers and shakes. you're much stronger than they are! -Lailani

i dont know if you have these somewhere on your site, but i learned these both from personal experience and from various ana friends..

- watermelon is FULL of water, so if you eeat a lot of it, you get filled up really fast, without actually consuming a lot of calories.

- try eating absolutely no carbs at all foor a week. your body won't be in starvation mode, but it will start burning fat instead of muscle, since carbs turn into fat. muscle is heavier than fat, but muscle burns cals, and fat doesnt.

- laxatives make certain people gain weighht, so be careful with them.

- sometimes, chewing gum tricks your body into thinking it's getting food, so when you don't swallow anything, you either get hungry or crave things, so be careful with gum, too. ALWAYS chew sugar-free.. and if your going for a no-cal fast, sugar free gum DOES have cals.. orbit has about 5, so that's pretty good.

- if you didn't start already, don't. but if you did.. smoke when your hungry. it makes you feel sick and light-headed.. then you could take a nap, and you won't have to eat.. and it's great if you just are bored and need something to do with your hands.

•wear a rubberband on your wrist--everytime you think of eating, snap it. after a while your wrist will get red or bruised and you wont want imperfections on your soon to be perfect body, and youll try new things instead of eating.

This is just something that works really well for me whenever I'm really really hungry, if I crave some sort of drink I get the biggest glass I can find and fill it to the tippy top with water. Then I sit somewhere nice and quiet and close my eyes before I take the first sip and think about how good that drink I'm craving is and pretend that my water is that drink I want. Then I drink the water and swallow really fast before I have a chance to realize that it's just water and it gets rid of my craving for that drink. But I have to keep my eyes closed the entire time that I drink it or else it will ruin it. The same thing works with food and ice. And just one more tip that works for me- if I get a sudden uncontrollable craving I get out a Rubix (or however you spell that) Cube and sit somewhere and try to get all the colors to line up. It gets me involved in something and gets my mind off having a craving, I forget all about it and it makes me think so I'm not just sitting there.

HOW TO CLEANSE EASY 2 STEP SYSTEMS

©Wild Oats, Inc. 1996

If cleansing is new to you, keep your first experience short and easy. This 2-step approach to diet and juice fasts is very basic. CHOOSE ONE OF THESE APPROACHES:

Eat a cleansing diet for 3 to 7 days.

Juice fast for 2-5 days directly after a cleansing diet of 2 to 3 days.

The goal of the cleansing diet is to lighten your digestive system's load and to alkalize your body by cutting out acid-forming foods, balancing your body's pH. A juice fast accelerates this process, cleaning out your entire system. For encouragement, recruit a "cleansing buddy" or join a cleansing support group. Set aside some time, perhaps take time off from work, and prepare for a wonderful lightness of being.

The Cleansing Diet (3 to 7 days)

Keep your meals small and simple to give your digestive system a break. Finish dinner at least 3 hours before going to bed and take a 20-minute walk after eating.

Fill up on vegetables, either raw or lightly steamed [raw and juiced are best]. Avoid starchy vegetables like potatoes in favor of ones high in water and fiber, particularly broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, eggplant red bell peppers, okra, onions, garlic, tomatoes, green beans, carrots, lettuce and greens of all kinds. Eat at least one salad a day. Enjoy whole fruits 2-3 times a day, particularly: apples, grapefruits, oranges, plums, strawberries, cherries, nectarines, and peaches. Go organic! This is no time to be eating pesticides.

Eat small amounts of vegetarian proteins like tofu, tempeh, beans (if you digest them easily), raw almonds, walnuts, and pumpkinseeds.

Limit carbohydrates to no more than 1/4 of your plate and keep them whole grain. Emphasize alternative grains like brown rice [wild rice is better], quinoa, millet, buckwheat, and amaranth. Carbohydrates to avoid: bread and pasta (even wholegrain breads, which can be difficult to digest) and common allergens like wheat and corn. Sprouted breads, in the frozen section are more digestible. (Chew well! Starches are mainly broke down in your mouth by salivary enzymes.)

Flavor foods with lemon, sesame seeds (toasted and ground) crumbled kelp, cayenne, garlic and ginger. Banish refined salt and avoid soy sauce and mustards!

Limit oils to 1 tablespoon twice daily. Focus on those oils rich in essential fatty acids such as organic flaxseed oil (which is high in metabolism-raising omega 3-fatty acids), olive oil, and canola oil [keep refrigerated after opening]. Avoid bottled salad dressings: Make your own instead, with fresh flaxseed oil (keep refrigerated) and lemon juice.

Upon waking, and between meals, drink a mug of hot water with the juice of one-half lemon to help kidney and liver elimination.

Drink 8 to 14 glasses a day of pure [spring] water at room temperature. Sip consistently. Do not drink water with meals. Other beverages to drink in addition to water include herb teas; freshly squeezed juices diluted half-and-half with water, and unsweetened cranberry juice.

Eliminate dairy foods, including butter & cheese.

Eliminate animal protein (particularly red meat, chicken, pork, and eggs) in order to alkalize your body. For some people, a small amount of fish, like whitefish or salmon, is acceptable.

Eat at home. If you must eat out, make sure the food follows the above guidelines.

Take a vitamin supplement in the morning and a mineral supplement at night. Also, take a GLA supplement (90mg.) or evening primrose oil supplement (500mg.) twice daily. [This is optional. The master cleanser and Dr. Goss's olive oil fast and some juice fasts are exceptions. This is an instance where you'd research or go to healing practitioners to determine your needs.]

Boost your body's own cleansing with herbs and fiber. Make your own herb combination.

NO-NO LIST: Saturated fats, sugars, artificial sweeteners, salt, additives, stimulants, caffeine, decaf coffee, dairy products, refined foods, packaged or processed foods (e.g., snack foods like cookies and chips - avoid even fat-free versions), spices, mustards and herbs (except cayenne, garlic and ginger). Minimize natural sweeteners and baked goods like muffins and breads.

Deep cleaning option: Extend the cleansing diet a few more days (up to 1 0 days), eating only vegetables, fruits, flaxseeds, and [spring] water. [Dr Goss's juice diet (as suggested for use with the PAR-K SLIM PAK) can be permanent. I have spent 17 health giving days on the Master Cleanser Lemonade diet. Many spend 30 or more days on cleansing fasts, for as many reasons.)

CLEANSING FAST WITH A JUICE FAST (2 to 5 days)

The cleansing diet prepares your body and mind to ease into this 2 to 5 day juice fast. If you're in good health, you can generally undertake a fast lasting up to seven days. Remember: Most people lose all sensation of hunger after three days of fasting. You'll feel so good that you won't want to eat! Consult a health care professional for help with serious health conditions or with longer fasts.

[Contact New Body Products at 800 638 4372, tell them you heard about them through VEGIHEAL, and ask them about the Tuesday and Thursday Free Wholistic Health Seminars in Compton, CA. Seminars can be arranged for your location. Find out if your current health care professional(s) know about how to use a variety of healing knowledge in your treatment. Do they give you personalized, consistent care. If they don't, consider getting additional expertise in their specialty areas. At NEW BODY WEST in Los Angeles, CA, ask for Iridologist Don Binns. Either office can refer you to wholistic healing practioners. In Pasadena, CA we've successfully used the resident acupuncturist at the Phoenix Pharmacy and wholistic center.]

Replace meals with diluted, fresh-squeezed juices, not water, for 3 to 5 days. (Do not use sweetened fruit juices.) The rich nutrient content of fruit and vegetable juices aids healing: the juices' alkalinity helps restore your body's pH balance and neutralize the acidic toxins released during cleansing. Certain fruit and vegetable blends can help specific health problems.

Combine fresh juices with homemade vegetable broths, herbal teas, and purified water. The minerals in the broths restore proper balance to all the body's tissues and increase oxygenation. To make a broth, simmer potatoes, carrots, celery, and beets in pure water for at least an hour, then strain.

Cleansing herbs and fiber help sweep debris from your colon. Many people also rely on hydrotherapy to help their bodies cleanse with fewer reactions such as dizziness or low energy.

You don't have to stop working during a fast, but do take it easy! Allow plenty of time for rest, for relaxing walks and for inner work like meditation.

End your fast properly. This may be your greatest challenge of all! You will need several days of transition or you may undo all of your healing. Start eating solids gradually, and take small amounts of apples, soaked prunes, salads, vegetable soup, and juices. Listen to your body! Gradually work your way up to foods like nuts, potatoes, and whole grains. To get your bowels moving again after a fast, take a fiber supplement and acidophilus. [Yuck, we'd suggest the salt water method in The Master Cleanser or Senna Tea or CKLS.]

Fasting Benefits

After three days, your body begins burning and digesting its own diseased, damaged and dead tissues and cells.

Fasting also dramatically increases the creation of new cells; your skin will show it.

Fasting gives your digestive system a well-earned vacation! (Juices require hardly any digestion.)

When your body shifts energy from digestion to detoxification, all of your eliminative organs work at a much faster rate. (The concentration of toxins in the urine is up to ten times higher!)

Fasting normalizes and rejuvenates your entire body, including your nervous system, your glands and hormone secretions, and your tissues' biochemical and mineral balance.

It Shouldn't Hurt!

When done properly, a faster cleanse leaves you strong and rejuvenated. A few symptoms might develop that signal your body is, indeed, detoxifying. Just relax and appreciate your body's cleansing process if you develop any of the following: headaches, bad breath or body odor, dizziness, irritability, skin eruptions, cold or flu symptoms, or low energy. These symptoms are minor and will soon pass. Many people find that chlorophyll-dch vegetable juices and parsley help to neutralize bad breath or body odor. If you experience a more severe cleansing reaction, however, it's generally a sign that you are cleansing too quickly. Slow down and cut back on the amount of cleansing herbs you are taking. Even if you have minor detoxing symptoms in the beginning, you will soon move into a stage of much greater balance and strength. Nurture yourself. You might feel agitated and angry as your liver flushes out. In Chinese medicine, anger is considered to be stored in the liver.

Chew Well & don't rush

Good digestion begins in your mouth, where you produce 1-2 pints of saliva a day. Starches like bread and pasta will constipate you when you don't chew them well enough.

Absence of Food and State

Fasting refers to the complete absence of Food, only Water.

Short-Term Fasting

In general, fasts should be conducted for no longer than 28 days, with most fasts 21 days or less. Long fats (for more than 42 days), are both unnecessary, and potentially dangeroud. A prolonged fast, for more than 2-3 months, is called Starvation! Although most of the 'miraculous' benefits of fasting do result from 3-5 days or more but 7-14 days, that's "healing". Although days 1-7 are quite benefitial to be sure, days 7-14 are truly tremendous, with the benefits from days 14-21 becoming extreme. Days 21-28 are nothing than a complete regeneration of the body. Literally erasing years of aging. (Where the true "Miracles of fasting" take place).

Medium-Term Fasting

Medium fasts (Between 28-42 days), although certainly possible, and frequently performed by dedicated fasters. The benefits of a 35 day fast are absolutely astonishing!

Fasting and Ketone Bodies

After the third day of a fast, the body begins to make ketone bodies in the liver (Enters ketosis). In the absence of food (Energy), Ketone bodies are produced by the body as an alternate energy source. Normally, ketone levels in the clood are less than 0.2mm. After several days of fasting they approach 3.0mm, and steadily rise thereafter. Importantly, never eat, even an extremely amount of food during a fast. This will quickly shift the body out of ketosis, back to its normal metabolism of glucose (food), decreasing ketone bodies, decreasing growth hormone and increasing hunger.

Fasting and Hunger Levels

The only challenge to fasting, and a challenge for many it is, is completing the first 1-5 days. During days 1-5 hunger levels can flucuate from average, to well above average many actually experience their greatest hunger on day 3 (Just prior to ketosis, when both blood sugar, and ketone body levels, are lowest). After day 3, hunger levels noticeably decrease. After day 5, hunger levels, and the "desire" for food in general (So strong initially), dramatically decrease. After day 10, hunger levels, for the most part, are non-existent.

Fasting and Energy Levels

During days 1-5, energy levels can flucuate from average to well below average (Feeling light headed, at times, is not uncommon). During days 5-10, energy levels very noticeably improve after day 10, with sharply elevated levels of both growth hormone, and ketone bodies, energy levels are tremendous, as is mental clarity.

Fasting and Weight Loss

Expect (in general) to lose 1 pound each day of fasting!

Fasting and Starvation

Contrary to what many people believe, fasting is not starvation. During the fast, the body is breaking down the non-essential tissue (Fat) for energy. While conserving essential tissue. Starvation, is the point where the body has used up all of its non-essential tissues (Reserves) ,and begins to break down its own essential tissues. This point (The point of starvation), even for the average individual (Of normal weight), takes quite some time to reach (Some 42 days or more).

Fasting and severely restrictive diets

Prolonged, severely restrictive diets are extremely unhealthy, in many cases, even life threatening. Unlike fasting, the body never completely enters ketosis (A fundamental process in sparing essential tissue from breaking down). The result, severely restrictive diets cause the body to lose a much greater percentage of lean body tissue (Essential tissue) than a complete fast. Over time (Once body reserves become dangerously low), lean body tissue (Essential tissue) eventually become used as an energy source. Prolonged, severely restrictive diets, are essentially just a slow form of starvation.

Fasting and Calorie Restriction

Calorie restricted (10-30%) diets are extremely healthy. Unlike severly restricted diets, the bodies energy (Food) needs are restricted just enough to result in sharply elevated levels of growth hormone, while eliminating the need to break down essential tissues.

Recommended Fasting Schedule

Definitely include short-term fasting (1-28 days) into your schedule. Your body will begin to literally "grow younger" before your eyes, especially, after day 10.

Discipline and Determination

Suppressing hunger (During days 1-5), one of life's greatest drives, is not easy for most! Eliminating food (During the fasting period), one of life's greatest pleasures, is not easy for most! However, those that have the discipline, and determination, wil have tremendous to extreme healthy benefits awaiting them!

No Pain No Gain

With the exceptions of days 1-5, particulary day 3, fasting is not nearly as difficult as one might imagine (In fact, after day 10, quite pleasurable). Remember too, exercise (Discussed next), also associated with some degree of self sacrifice to promote health, pales in comparison to fasting in terms of health benefits. In fact, one could perform 1-3 annual (14-28) fasts, or calorie restrict (10-30%), never exercise again, and achieve a state of health that no form or amount of exercise could ever accomplish.

Go For Cold 6/9/02

Always chew on ice, it makes you feel like your eating and your body has to burn calories to keep your temperature up. If your not crazy about ice, drink ice water. Try to stay as cold as possible. Sweating off the fat may seem like a good idea but you can become dehydrated very easily.(I nearly passed out after a nice steamy hot bath, it wasn't fun) Go for cold it works better and it's safer. Turn up the air conditioning in your house, sleep without blankets, wear skimpy clothes. Do any thing to keep cold so your body has to burn calories to keep up that temperature.

Red Bracelet 7/16/02

First of all I'd like to apologize to everyone for not updating in so long but things have been a little hectic. I'm still going strong in my fast. Having said that I'll get on to the point of this post.

I know many of you are curious about using a red bracelet to symbolize that you are Ana or Mia. I myself haven't read anything specifying what type of bracelet or how many people are doing this. If you know anything about this please e-mail me so I can post to everyone else.

Also I would like to add that you shouldn't ever let anyone tell you how to live your life. If you are comfortable with the way you are don't change. Some people are comfortable being fat and others want to be thin. In this world the margin for being physically healthy is very small. By trying to fit into it you are just conforming. If that's what you want then go right ahead but let everyone else be the way they wish to be. Be yourself and be content with that.

Stomach pains 8/13/02

I've gotten a gaggle of e-mails asking about stomach pains. So I'm just going to address every aspect I can think of. First of all they usually stop after the first week of fasting but it may vary. It really is according to your body. When you do get pains it helps to curl up into a ball or put some type of heat on your stomach. Also it is normal to get pains for a little while after you start eating again. During the fast your body becomes accustommed to not having food so it's quite a shock when you start eating again. To minimize this you need to start out slowly with broths and juices. Then slowly move up to more solid foods. Just think of it like you had your tonsils out or just got braces. Doing it that way will keep you from getting excruitating cramps and possibly getting sick.

Cravings 10/9/02

When it comes to cravings there is no easy way to fight them. All you can do is try to ignore them and hope you make it through, but a few things do help. One, is water, I think we all knew that. Two, is keeping yourself occupied. Do something that keeps your hands busy if it's outside that's even better. The farther away from the kitchen the better. Three, is gum. Chewing gum helps you because it keeps your mouth busy and it's hard to eat with gum in your mouth and taking it out and putting it on a glass or something like that is bad manners. That is a habit I myself had to break. I think that's all for now.

fasting

Fasting is not something i know a lot about or have a lot of experience with. I'll try to find more info and post as I go. From what I do know, I've found out that our bodies carry a huge ammount of nutrients which are stored in the blood, bone marrow and other tissues. When there is no food available, your body starts to cleanse itself of everything except vital tissues. Starvation only occurs when the body starts to use vital tissues to survive. Try to begin a fast on days where you have nothing planned. You'll most likely have almost no energy for the first couple of days. Drink lots of water and sleep a lot. Don't just fast for a few days because once the body starts the fasting process it's easier to stay there then to start and stop every couple of days. When coming out of the fast be very careful. Do not just start eating a alot. That'll be to much of a shock to your system. Instead start with eating small ammount of raw fruits and veggies. Gradually increase the ammount but don't start with meat, grains or junkfood. This can cause stomach cramps, nausea and weakness. Yea and you will probably just gain weight back if you come out of it like that.

to lose a pound

To lose a pound (lb) you need to either burn off 3500 cals or not eat 3500 cals and let your BMR burn it off that day or whatever. Either way, 3500 cals is a pound gained or lost.

ANA PSALM

Strict is my diet. I must not want. It maketh me to lie down at night hungry. It leadeth me past the confectioners. It trieth my willpower. It leadeth me in the paths of alteration for my figure's sake. Yea, though I walk through the aisles of the pastry department, I will buy no sweet rolls for they are fattening. The cakes and the pies, they tempt me. Before me is a table set with green beans and lettuce. I filleth my stomach with liquids, My day's quota runneth over. Surely calorie and weight charts will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the fear of the scales forever.

===========================================================

GENERAL

pick a food for the day like an apple and cut it into 8 slices; 2 for breakfast, 2 for lunch, 2 for supper and 2 more for a snack (yay!) and you're body will think it's getting 4 meals when it's only consuming 1 apple eat one actual meal a day, this will help binge cravings once a week allow yourself to binge, not to much, keep it reasonable but it will help raise your metabolism and only treat yourself if you had a good week and didn't binge any other time. always have it on a certain day, that way halfway through the week you aren't all like, "well i'll just have my binge now", when you get tempted. choose a day and stick to that day. don't eat just because you're hungry, well you'll be hungry but just don't make it a habit to eat when you're hungry. Plan out what and when you eat the day before and stick to that

if you live on your own or have lots of privacy or room with someone who is also anorexic/bulimic, post pictures of your favorite models, quotes, goals etc. and/or carry a picture of your favorite model with you so wheneven you are tempted to binge pull it out and remember why you don't like eating carry a pic of yourself either naked or in a bikini so when you feel tempted to eat pull it out to remember the fat you wanna lose (just make sure you dont happen to lose the pic) always wear perfectly applied and/or gooey lipgloss or lipstick so you'll think twice about what goes in your mouth and you'll have to carefully reapply it if you're a smoker and you're hungry, light up a smoke; it'll curb your appetite and you'll loose your appetite when you feel like eating, brush your teeth with a strong mint toothpaste, food just doesn't quite taste the same after instead of eating go dig for worms or clean a fishtank or kitty litter so you won't feel hungry anymore ~~~GUM!!!~~~ (i luv this one) get the sugar free kind and chew chicki chew! go suck on an ice cube, whenever you wanna eat just go to the fridge, pretend to reach for something real good then grab some ice cubes and put em in your mouth. not only will you marvle at your incredible will power but if you get cold your body burns cals warming inself up

Feeling Full

drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day or a glass every hour or so in between each bite of food, put your eating utensil down and take a sip of water drinking hot liquids expands your intestinal track and can take the edge off your hunger; soup can do that same e a t sssllloooowwww, it takes your body around 20-30 minutes to realize it's full so take that long to eat. but remember, just cause you have more time, don't eat more, just slow anything with fiber will fill you up quick, raison bran seems to be good for this, doesn't have fat and has only a few cals

m e t a b o l i s m

stay cold, it does wonders for metabolism, burns cals warming your body up (cold showers, lowing the temp in the house by like 10 degrees, drinking ice cold water etc) less than 6 hours of sleep ups hunger by 10-15% so get some sleep (i hardly ever get that much sleep=( ) coffee and tea (especially green teas) are supposed to help metabolism go up spicey foods raise your metabolism and burn slightlymore cals than other foods

{b}inging & {p}urging

purge in the shower, the noise should be blocked out and it's better than oh say...the toilet. use a pen or toothbrush, easier to vomit and you won't get your knuckles scarred. eat only soft foods during a binge, easier to vomit. drink lots of water during a binge, then when you purge everything comes out quicker and easier. don't eat or drink anything that's red during a binge, sometimes when you purge bleeding occurs and you won't know if it's blood or whatever you ate/drank.

Tips and Tricks 1. Drinking water is SO important through out the binge.

2. Diet pills are great, just don't take them before you purge or they are useless.

3. Eat what you crave, it's all coming back up anyways, so get creative.

4. When you are REALLY hungry is the best time to pick out binge foods because you always find the best stuff when you are looking really hard.

5. If you have parents who buy your food, pick up the binge foods and slowly make them "dissappear" into your room through out the week.

6. Binge and purge ALONE so people don't get suspicious.

7. Sometimes the "take a bite, chew and spit it out" thing may work.

8. Keep an Ana/Mia journal. When you feel down, look at it and it will remind you why you do this for yourself.

9. When you are at a meal and you don't want to eat, make an excuse.

10. When you need to eat, cut out "danger foods" and try to eat some protein to boost your metabolism.

11. Fruits and veges are always good on off-binge snacks/meals.

12. Brush your teeth before you binge so less acid and build up gets caught on what's already there, then wait an hour to brush afterwards. Use a mint to get that fresh taste back.

13. Move constantly and exercise, you need to keep up your energy and lose the weight.

14. Mouthwash is good after purging, it kills germs and washes away acid.

15. The only way you know everything is out of you is when you start throwing up stomach acid, which is at the bottom of the food that you ate because it is starting to break it down, if you are throwing up acid, that's it.

16. Diet or apple cider viniger pills taken 1-3 hrs. before you eat will eliminate anything you may have not purged. (I personally use this one everyday with great results) Plus you lose weight at the same time! Or take apple cider viniger pills 30 min. before regular eating to kill the fat that may be there.

17. Use crest white strips, they help keep your teeth white. Whitening toothpaste is also excellent.

18. The best combination for when you can't or don't want to eat is diet mountain dew and diet pills, pulsing energy and no calories, also decreases appetite.

19. As for purging, I would suggest as soon as possible, everyone has their time they think is best. After two hours you usually don't get too much up but anything up counts.

20. It doesn't matter what colors you eat, if there is blood there, you will see it on the tissue/paper towel after you purge when you are cleaning up. (See medical page)

21. Tea raises metabolism and 3 cups of green tea a day helps you lose weight.

22. Hot caffiene goes strait into your system, cold caffiene takes 2 hours, you decide what is best for you.

23. When you are out to eat, order a fruit salad or something light, then when you get your dinner, say you are full. Take it home and binge and purge. That way you got what you wanted for dinner but you could binge and purge in privite.

24. Places to purge are fair game, use your imagination.

25. I use two fingers instead of one, it helps me, also I have known people to use a toothbrush, their thumb, one to three fingers, you name it you can probably use it.

26. When I don't want people to know that I have been purging with my fingers, I use strong brown paper towels (or shop towels) and wrap a piece around my knuckles. The brown towels hold up and can be thrown away, white ones absorb better and can break up in your mouth.

27. Throat drops are always good to have.

28. Keep your hair, skin, nails...etc healthy, take a vitamin you can tolerate.

29. Sleep as much as you need to, if you only need 4 hrs. then make sure you get all four.

30. Drink anything with caffiene.

31. Use laxatives in extreme moderation and only when necessary.

32. Wear a bracelet or something that reminds you you are a Mia/Ana.

33. You can binge on anything with enough water.

34. Applesauce really helps anything come up easier. Tried and tested.

35. "Heavy Day" clothes are always good to have around.

36. When you feel bloated, take a warm shower. I use this as "washing away the fat" and usually feel better afterwards. (may be more psych then anything but it works)

37. Regular meds should be taken 3 hours before or one hour after a binge/purge.

38. Don't use hand sanitizer, lotions, sprays or anything like that before you purge, it's really disgusting and unsafe.

39. Watch sharp objects like unfiled nails on your throat.

40. THIN IS IN!!

Chew sugar-free gum, especially when you are in a situation that will tempt you to eat

Get AWAY from food, if you aren't near it then there is no worry about eating it.

If you are hungry do crunches until the craving for food subsides.

If you feel like you are apt to eat something go to a friends house where you can't just raid the fridge

Weigh yourself before you eat, then weigh yourself after you eat, see how much fatter you get

FOOD DIARY!!

after each bite take a gulp of water, it will make you feel fuller faster

only eat half of what is on your plate

diet soda or calorie free carbonated drinks! they fill you up!

Why can't the realize my strength? How much it's taken to make so little of myself

Most women live their lives in a state of starvation..Why should I be any different?

It was simple: You decided once and for all that you weren't going to eat and then there would be no further decisions to make

In the body, as in art, perfection is attained not when there's nothing left to add, but when there's nothing left to take away

Perfection was easy..it equaled not being fat

Just don't eat..it's as simple as that

Women prepare the food, but mustn't eat it

I have a rule when I weigh myself..If I've gained I starve for the rest of the day. But if I've lost, I starve too

They always say they're concerned about me, about my health, when all they want to do is control me. They want to pin me down and force-feed me with lies, with what they call love. Like prisoners everywhere, all I have left is the power to refuse

I do eat normally. I can't help it if everyone else is constantly stuffing themselves

I'm just perfecting my emptiness

Remeasure, reweigh, try harder

Are the tops of your thighs wide and fleshy?

Expirement~ strive for perfection

I've freed myself from this compulsion of eating

When I wake, I'm empty, light, light-headed. I like to stay this way, free and pure, light on my feet, traveling light. For me, foods only interest lies in how little I need, how strong I am, how well I can resist, each time achieving another small victory of the will

Like a plant, surely the body can be trained to exist on nothing, to take it's nourishment from the air

Cheese is the hardest food to digest, and contaminates everything you eat it with

Make your scale your best friend

Those 4:00 hunger pains are striking you hard. It's the "fat time" of the day when you're starving and your appetite is telling you to overeat. But whatever you do, RESIST TEMPTATION

Do what you need to now, so you can have light, thin days later

Animals in mature eat only one food at a time. Not like us humans. We eat everything we can get our hands on, including them

Use a smaller plate so your meal looks bigger

Put your fork down and allow a full minute to pass between bites

Everyone is just jealous because I can control myself

People that eat are greedy. They like, have NO restraint whatsoever

I eat. I eat what my body needs. I just don't stuff myself like a disgusting pig

Never allow yourself to get full

Don't do anything today you'll regret tomorrow

I watch other people scarf down food with their animal appetites and I feel superior

Nothing is so bad that losing weight won't cure

When you coast without eating for a significant period of time, and you are still alive, you begin to scoff at those fools who believe they must eat to live. It is blatantly obvious to you that this is not true

Food is hindrance to your progress, and you must keep yourself awake because if you fall asleep you're not burning calories

Starving is the feminine thing to do these days

We turn skeletons into goddesses, and look to them as if they might teach us how not to need

"THIS IS FOREVER. I WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES. I WANT TO BE THIN MORE THAN ANYTHING, EVEN FOOD"

how many pounds till i am happy, how many pounds till i thin? three more pounds till i am skinny, three more pounds and i win!

you've made a decision: you will NOT stop. the pain is neccessary, especially the pain of hunger. it reassures you that you are s trong, can withstand anything.

you can learn to love anything. i think, if you need to badly enough. i trianed myself to enjoy feeling hungry. if my stomach contracts, or i wake up feeling nauseated, or i'm light-headed, or i have a hugner headache, or better yet, all of the above, it means i'm getting thinnger. so it feels good. i feel strong. on top of myself. in control.

like a plant, surely, the body can be trained to exist on nothing - to take it's nourishment from the air

it wasn't simply that i bose not to eat; i was forbidden to. even thinking about forbidden foods brought punishment... how dare you, this voice inside me would say. you greedy pig. and i was grateful to have someone from hurting. making me respect msyself. hunger, i thought, is a minuscule price to pay. to be thin, no price is too high. the sky's the limit.

you will be tempted quite frequently, and you qill have to choose whether you will enjoy your twenty minutes or so that you will be consuming the excess calories, or whether you will dislike yourself cordially for two or three days, for your lack of willpower.

nothing. nothing is wrong. and asking is against the rules. crying is against the rules. your strong, don't let them break you. they're trying to destroy you.

quod me nutrit me destruit = what nourishes me also destroys me

Ana's responses to your "healthy voice"

*What is being thin going to get me?

ana: You have got to be kidding me, right? It's going to get you everything you want, it will allow you to achieve perfection

*I think I should go into treatment

ana: Fine, go into treatment, but you still won't get rid of me, i'll still be with you, but you'll try to ignore me and disobey me, but i will still be haunting your every thought, you just won't be able to do anything about it.

*My eating disorder is ruining my life

ana: I am not the one ruining your life, you are, but I can help you with that, I will make it all better if you let me.

*I am hurting my friends and family.

ana: They don't really care about you, they just feel an obligation to, besides they will leave you sometime or another, but I will always be there for you.

*I am miserable now.

ana: Just give me a little time and I will make you the happiest you have ever been.

*I am disgustingly thin.

ana: You must be overlooking all that fat, the only time you will be disgustingly thin or too thin, is when you are dead. You are still breathing aren't you?

*I reached my goal weight

ana: You are doing pretty well, but if you lose ten more pounds you will be perfect!

*I always obsess about food.

ana: I am helping you there, if you weren't thinking about food, you'd be thinking about all the pain in your life.

*I want to be normal, I want to eat what normal people eat.

ana: You are above normal, when you follow my instructions you are superior.

The human body can function for roughly two weeks without any food.

That time is cut in half if you do not get enough water.

I drink a glass of water any time I go into the kitchen, bathroom,

or any other room with water in it. If you want to fast successfuly

you have got to stay hydrated or you will eventually pass out. (I

know from experience...NOT FUN!)

When I have fasted in the past I will go for 12 days and then take a

week off. During the week off I limitted myself to 300 calories and

NO GREASY FOODS (grease will give you the runs if you have been

fasting). The off and on cycle I chose seem to make the weight come

off faster because your body never has a chance to hit a higher weight.
