Welcome to the Doctor Who MIDI Archive!
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Unfortunately, I have reached my uploading limit with freewebs. So there is a new site for files relevant to Series Four onwards, found at http://www.freewebs.com/dwmidi2. Series 1-3, Classic Series, Theme Music, Sheet Music, Lyrics and Chords, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures will remain here.
DOCTOR WHO MIDI FILES
With Thanks to Murray Gold
The Songs of Doctor Who
Song For Ten* - The song from The Christmas Invasion. This is loosely based around the Tim Phillips original, but then begins to resemble the CD version towards the end (when the middle eight comes in). This MIDI is an improvement upon my original one. Enjoy!
Love Don't Roam* - The song from The Runaway Bride. I've removed my previous MIDI of this song because it was terrible! But this is a MIDI file made from an arrangement I made for a small ensemble, and it's slight better and more accurate. I'll probably adapt it for a larger scale at some point.
My Angel Put the Devil in Me** (ALBUM VERSION) - This is my MIDI of the CD version of this song. It's extended from the TV version, and it's sort of richer and fuller.
The Stowaway** - Murray's fabulous song from Voyage of the Damned. I was hoping for a song in 3/4 time, and lo and behold, there we go. It's absolutely lovely, and I hope I've done it justice in this MIDI.
Series Four (2008)
Please visit www.freewebs.com/dwmidi2 for Series Four onwards. Thank you!
Series Three (2007)
X. THE RUNAWAY BRIDE
Donna's Theme* - (newer MIDI) I hope to extend this beyond the first main motif and include some of the other sections from the CD. For now, here's a more accurate MIDI.
The Runaway Bride** - The long piece from the car chase sequence in The Runaway Bride. I have now finally finished this MIDI (it was previously uploaded in stages, but it's now the full version at nearly 4 minutes). Some parts of this MIDI are weak, but some bits make up for that. Enjoy! NOTE: Now the CD is out, I will hopefully be able to iron out the mistakes in this one.
The Doctor Forever (Improved MIDI)* - (S3 CD The Doctor Forever) Also known as The Doctor's Theme Epic or something! It's the theme heard first in TRB, then throughout Series 3.
Donna's Theme* - (Earlier MIDI) The theme just after the opening credits in The Runaway Bride. It's got a lovely beat and it feels very silly and jaunty. Light hearted. "This has got Nerys written all over it!"
1. SMITH AND JONES
Martha's Theme* - The tune used in series three to represent Martha. This is the original choir and pad version from Smith and Jones. I have now extended this to include some of the variations on the motif.
Judoon Landing* - This MIDI isn't quite complete yet - there's another section to do yet, but this is what I've come up with so far. This is the music after the Doctor says "Heads up, ask him yourself!".
Rain - From when Martha was on the phone to Tish. "The rain's going up..."
2. THE SHAKESPEARE CODE
Martha's Theme - Shakespeare - A lovely Elizabethan version of Martha's theme was played in The Shakespeare Code. This is my MIDI representation of it. It uses a harp, an acoustic guitar, a treble recorder and a harmonica!
The Lute Song* - This appeared in The Shakespeare Code right at the beginning, sung by a bloke with a lute! It was then used as incidental music a bit later in the episode.
3. GRIDLOCK
All the Strange Strange Creatures** - Redone this MIDI. It's the action theme heard throughout series three and in the trailer for series four (known also as the Trailer Music). MP3 file here.
Gridlocked Cassinis* - The humourous motif from the scenes with the Cassinis in Gridlock (believe it or not..!).
Car Jumping Sequence - (The Doctor Forever) This is from Gridlock. And I'm not certain, but I think it was in The Runaway Bride as well.
Abide With Me** - The lovely, soft hymn from the end of Gridlock.
4 & 5. DALEKS IN MANHATTAN and EVOLUTION OF THE DALEKS
Hooverville** - The emotive piano, horn and string piece from this story. I'm pleased with this MIDI, and I wish the piece had been on the S3 soundtrack CD, as I think it's lovely.
My Angel Put the Devil in Me** - My original MIDI of Tallulah's song from Daleks in Manhatten. This is one of my favourite MIDIs, and it's certainly excellent work from Murray Gold. This version is extended - that is, how I originally imagined the full version would sound. (For the album version, see the songs section at the top.)
Evolution of the Daleks** - Choral chanting in what I believe to be Hebrew. I can just about make out some of the lyrics (with the help of a Jewish friend) as "Dalek Sec, Ma Korah, Koreh".
8 & 9. HUMAN NATURE and THE FAMILY OF BLOOD
Smith and Joan's Waltz** - This is the village dance waltz. I was disappointed this was not on the soundtrack CD! This is my newer MIDI, and I'm quite pleased with it. "Ladies and Gentlemen, please take your partners... for a waltz!!!"
Smith's Choice** - This is the chaotic music from the Human Nature cliffhanger, when poor, ordinary Mr Smith's world is turned upside-down. "Which one of them do you want us to kill? Your friend, or your lover? Your choice!"
Only Martha Knows** - This piece is really lovely! Murray really outdid himself here. This is from Human Nature, when Martha rides her bike to the barn where the TARDIS is parked.
Just Scarecrows to War** - New Version of this MIDI. It is the military-style fife and drum cue from The Family of Blood.
Martha's Theme | The Doctor Forever (Family of Blood)* - This is when the Doctor and Martha are about to leave. It's raining, and Melanie Pappenheim belts out Martha's theme across the valley... Then we hear The Doctor Forever, and Tim Latimer is given the watch as a souvenir.
Miss Joan Redfern - Not my favourite piece for CD listening, but it does its job very well in the episode. I don't think I've really done it justice in this MIDI.
Daughter-of-Mine - The traditional skipping rhyme used in Human Nature just before the little girl was taken by the scarecrows!
10. BLINK
Blink - Time Prevails - This is the first part of the Blink suite on the CD, and it was used when Sally first entered the dilapidated Wester Drumlins, as well as when she visited Billy before he died.
Blink - Sally Sparrow** - The decisive, Torchwood-esque music from when Sally decided to go to the police. It was also used when she realised that the Easter Egg was intended for her, as well as in the closing seconds of the episode.
Blink - The Weeping Angels - This is really badly represented in MIDI format... but it's a good piece when it's heard properly. I think it sounds like iron castor that needs oiling!
11. UTOPIA
The Futurekind - From Utopia. It's the variation on ATSSC with electric guitars and sawtooth synths (well, there would be, but Sibelius Student can't do that). :D
The Master Reborn** - (S3 CD The Master Vainglorious) Used in Utopia for the Master's regeneration, and in the Sound of Drums when the Toclafance descended. This is the full version from the end of Utopia.
Captain Jack's TARDIS Chase - From Utopia. This is when Jack is running toward the TARDIS and the Doctor takes off just as he jumps. {NEW VERSION}
12 & 13. THE SOUND OF DRUMS and LAST OF THE TIME LORDS
Martha Drives Away From Trouble** - The bridge section from track one. This is a lovely variation on the trailer music! It was used in The Sound of Drums when Martha was, believe in or not, driving away from trouble.
Martha Drives Away From Trouble (Fleshed Out Version)** - This is a version of the above MIDI with more instruments and heavier rhythms and things.
Sol 3 (Martha's Quest)* - From Last of the Time Lords, at the very start. This is a better MIDI version of my previous attempt (Martha Returns). Wyldcat has done a brilliant, much better version of this piece, linked to on his blog.
The Master's Theme - (S3 CD The Master Vainglorious]) Rushing strings, tremolo timpani and marching horns. Then of course the tapping rhythm!
Gallifrey Theme* - (S3 CD This is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home) Used in the Gallifrey flashback scenes, and during the scene with the Master's funeral pyre.
The Master Tape - It didn't make it into the final mix, but there are hints of it. It was based on the script which clearly showed the Master as "a deranged circus master".
Martha Triumphant* - The really bold version of Martha's Theme from the end of LOTTL.
Saxon's England - (S3 CD Martha's Quest) This is the piece heard in Utopia and The Sound of Drums, such as when the Doctor, Martha and Jack put on the TARDIS Key perception filters, and then when the Master has aged the Doctor into an old man and Martha makes her promise.
Saxon's England (Martha Returns) - (S3 CD Martha's Quest) From the start of LOTTL. (Not a very good MIDI - there's a MUCH better one up the page a bit.)
Series Two (2006)
X. THE CHRISTMAS INVASION
Jingle Bells (The Christmas Tree Attacks)* - Exactly what it says on the tin.
Santa Attack* - When Rose and Mickey fled from the Christmas Market in TCI. Includes Jackie's telephone converstaion with Bev and the hint of Flavia as the Doctor lies helpless in bed!
UNIT* - I've redone this MIDI from scratch, seeing as the previous effort was so poor!! This is Murray's theme for UNIT, with the "pulsing strings and dark, diplomatic cars". MP3 file here.
1. NEW EARTH
The Face of Boe - Not very good MIDI, but this is the Face of Boe's refrain. I can see exactly where it goes horribly wrong in this MIDI, so I hope to improve the second section.
New Adventures - This MIDI is absolute rubbish! You have been warned. But this is the New Adventures music, track 22 on the CD.
2. TOOTH AND CLAW
Tooth and Claw* - This file starts with the Kung-Fu monks, then changes to the ascending Werewolf theme. It then changes to the more urgent chase theme.
Queen Victoria - This is the soft, playful melody heard when the Doctor might have introduced Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, Empress of India and Defender of the Faith.
3. SCHOOL REUNION
School Reunion* - Not on the CD, but this is the powerful vamp from School Reunion when they get out of the car (also used in Dalek and Army of Ghosts)
Sarah Jane* - Not on the CD. This is the "My Sarah Jane" moment from School Reunion and the bit when she finds the rebuilt K9.
Skasas Paradigm - The title says it all. The crashing theme from School Reunion with the kids on the computers.
Mr Finch's Theme - This MIDI isn't terribly flattering of the great theme Murray produced for this villain. This is the "reversed piano" and electric guitar motif, and then the extended "Kitchen music".
4. THE GIRL IN THE FIREPLACE
The Girl in the Fireplace(*) - Not on the CD, but it was played at the concert. This is the opening music from The Girl in the Fireplace. Just imagine clockwork robots marching and it might sound a bit better! Although I have a friend who says this sounds like a sea shanty...
Madame de Pompadour - I've added the rest, but I don't think a MIDI does it justice.
8 & 9. THE IMPOSSIBLE PLANET and THE SATAN PIT
The Impossible Planet - Okay, this one is actually my worst! I really must try and sort it out at some point.
10. LOVE & MONSTERS
Victor Kennedy's Theme - The mysterious fluttering woodwind melody from Love & Monsters to signal Victor Kennedy/the Abzorballoff. "Take your phone and go!"
Musical LINDA* - Not strictly (well not at all) incidental music, but this is a "Live Performance" featured in Love and Monsters by Bliss and Ursula. Includes The Riddle Song and Brand New Key (of which there is a longer MIDI of the original track in the Non-Who section).
Finding Jackie** - This is one of my favourite MIDIs. I'm very pleased with this. I just need to flesh out the second section more. It was aso in The Parting of the Ways.
12 & 13. ARMY OF GHOSTS and DOOMSDAY
Army of Ghosts (Improved)** - Longer and more accurate than my previous attempt, this is the Cyber rescue motif from RotC, TAoS, AoG and Doomsday.
Doomsday* - Melanie Pappenheim's final melody. This was originally heard in Rose, the moment she steps into the TARDIS, but here is the version from the Wall Scene at the end of Doomsday.
Torchwood Theme Tune** - Also not on the CD. This is the *(now extended) theme tune to Torchwood. I am very pleased with this MIDI. This now includes the "Running Home" drum/sfx stuff from Jack's voiceover at the start of every episode.
Ghost Shift** - This music was heard in AoG in the first ghost shift. I've now updated it so it's more accurate and longer! Have a listen.
Series One (2005)
1. ROSE
Planet Earth - On the CD as part of the Westminster Bridge track. This is the music just before Rose wakes up at the beginning of Series One. It was also used before Jackie was decorating the Christmas Tree and before Donna started to walk down the aisle.
Westminster Bridge* - The theme used in Rose when she goes to work. It also made several reappearences throughout the series.
Flavia's Theme - The Melanie Pappenheim motif (original version). Also known as The Doctor's Theme. The version here does merge into the longer TPOTW version as well. I now have the voice sound, so Flavia sounds more human!!
Seeking the Doctor - A mixture of flute and vocals, with a harp accompaniment. This is the mysterious TARDIS theme, Melanie Pappenheim's second feature. (This is the improved version!)
2. THE END OF THE WORLD
Cassandra's Waltz (Improved)* - This is an improved version with the C section added as well. (I've also now slowed it down!)
Clockwork TARDIS - From TEOTW when Eccleston fiddles with the TARDIS controls. Not exactly one of my better MIDIs, but here it is anyway.
Rose's Theme - The hopeful piano and string motif first heard in TEOTW, and later in TCI, New Earth and Doomsday.
4. & 5. ALIENS OF LONDON and WORLD WAR THREE
Slitheen* - This is obviously the heavily percussive Slitheen motif. Cross-rhythms and ostinati compliment the sustained melody. (This is an improved version with drums!)
7. THE LONG GAME
Market Stalls** - This is the humourous "Munchkin" music from The Long Game when the market was opening and the man was selling kronkburgers!
8. FATHER'S DAY
Father's Day(*) - The nostalgic music from Father's Day. Mainly piano with a hint of strings.
11. BOOM TOWN
Boom Town Suite - This includes the woodwind Cardiff theme and then the Cor Anglais and harp section.
Monster Bossa Nova - Boom Town and L&M saw this melody. Titled as simply "Monster Bossa" on the CD.
12 & 13. BAD WOLF and THE PARTING OF THE WAYS
Rose in Peril - Track 7 on the CD and the bit where the 9th Doctor discovers that Rose has turned to dust.
I'm Coming to Get You* - From TPOTW. This MIDI is okay until it gets to the final schord, which is really messed up...
The Daleks - I am embarrassed by this MIDI. Don't laugh...
