Japanese Particles


Particles are used after words to show what part of the sentence they are.

wa - used when you're talking about the main subject.
Example: if you're talking about the book (hon): "Hon wa..."

no - used when you're talking about owning something.
Example: if you want to say Emily's (Emiri-chan) bag (kaban): "Emiri no Kanban..."

de - used as a form of transport.
Example: if you want to say Kidori (Kidori-san) is going (ikimasu) by car (kuruma): "Kidori-san wa kuruma de ikimasu."

ni - used for both time and place.
Eample: if you want "Ares (Aresu-san) went (ikimashita) to the library (Toshokan) on Tuesday (kayobi): "Aresu-san wa Toshokan ni kayobi ni ikimashita."
