1) Make a new Image of 500x500.
2) Make a square black to white gradient (black in middle) in the middle of the
image of a reasonable size.
3) Filter > Artistic > Sponge
4) Duplicate the background layer 5 times so you
now have 6 layers
5) Filter > Distort > Twirl the top three
layers +180degrees and leave the bottom three as they are.
6) Do the following filters on
these layers:
Background: Distort > Zigzag > Pond ripples (5 ridges, amount of 15)
2nd to bottom layer: NOTHING
3rd to bottom layer: Distort > Wave (3 generators, wavelength: min:150
max:150)
4th to bottom layer: NOTHING
5th to bottom layer: Distort > Ripple (Large, 100%)
Top layer: NOTHING
Your layer window should look like this:
7) Use these Blending Options on each layer (or
make up your own, experiment):
Background: N/A
2nd to bottom layer: Lighten
3rd to bottom layer: Darken
4th to bottom layer: Darken
5th to bottom layer: Darken
Top layer: Darken
8) On each layer press Ctrl + U and check
colorize. Then adjust the hue to change the colour to whatever colour you
want.
9) Save, you are done.
You can use the same idea to get variaties of pictures by changing the
colours, size, blending options and filters. For example here is a
wallpaper I have made:
