Behavioural Consultations
We expect a great deal from our dogs.Sometimes they don’t conform to all our expectations and problems can arise from their behaviour. When this happens, we have to make a choice; either live with the situation, part with the pet or adapt the behaviour. Unacceptable behaviour manifests itself in many different ways. The aim of Dunlin Dog Training is to help you achieve a better understanding of your dogs behaviour and to modify any problems you may be encountering.
Common behaviour problems Include
Fears and phobias—loud noises, traffic
Aggression towards other animals or people
Destructive behaviour
Separation anxiety
Compulsive behaviours
Excessive barking or excitability
Guarding behaviour - food bowls or toys
These problems often worsen over time so it is important to seek help as early as possible. As a qualified behaviourist my aim is to support you to find ways of living more in harmony with your dog.
Consultation
This initial consultation takes place in your home to allow us to obtain a full analysis of your pet’s behaviour in the home environment. We will assess your pet’s history and the home environment and discuss the problems being encountered by you and your pet.
Behavior modification program
A personal behavioural training programme will be organised for you to follow. By changing the way you deal with your pet’s problem, your pet’s behaviour will change.
Full written report
A full written report will be provided for you outlining the actions to be taken in order for you to follow the program effectively. Behavioural modification will not resolve your dogs problems over night, although most behaviours will change quickly you can expect to wait a few weeks to see significant changes
Telephone support
Should you have any problems or queries throughout the program we are on the end of the telephone to assist in any way we can.
Follow up consultation
As mentioned, most behavioural changes do not change overnight. 6 weeks after the initial consultation; another appointment (included within the cost) will be made to check on the progress.
