Roleplay in Kent, England

Quick Questions

A quick fire frequently asked questions section.

Q. Do I have to join a group, or can I play alone?

A. You will be in a group when you play, they will speak to you and welcome you aboard and if you play well they might let you join them on a regular basis and even let you chat to them IC on the forums. You can’t go it alone until you reach level 7 extreme (when solo games will be held).

Q. Aren’t there too many players with high-level abilities such as Destroy or Fatal?

A. No all games are designed on a level basis, so a level 3 player will never play with a level 7 player. And the dungeon difficulty will reflect the level of the game.

Q. How do I knock someone out rather than kill them?

A. Use the “subdue” call. You won’t be tried for murder if you only knocked your opponent out. You have to hit them the same number of times as their hit points and armour to do this!

Q. I want a magic sword, how do I get one.

A. This is what Dungeon Master is all about, so find one and get someone to tell you IC what it does or pay GC to tell you

Q. Im a healer, will I be any use in a fights.

A. Certainly you will, your services as a healer will be vital to keep the tanks alive.

Q. Im new to all this and have no acting experience or combat skills, can I still join in?

A. Almost anyone can join in our games. You will need a good imagination, a sense of humour and fair play, and a willingness to go along with the plot. The more you put into being your character, the more you will get out of the game. Anyone new to the game will be given some combat training to show you how to fight safely.

Q. I’ve made a foam sword, can I bring it along?

A. You can, but if it doesnt meet our strict safety standards (LT / CP style) you won’t be able to use it. All weapons and armour brought to our events will be checked on arrival. Any weapons deemed to be unsuitable or unsafe will not be allowed into the game areas. Bring it along and we can always give advice how to make it safer etc.

Q. Can I use a bow and arrow or crossbow?

A. Yes, but you will have to take a bow test. This is test of safety awareness and competency, not accuracy. These are held at the start of a day, best to check when you arrive.

Bows, arrows / bolts and crossbows brought to an event must be checked on arrival as missing flights or ripped foam can make a difference. Bows and crossbows must have a pull of 28 lb at arrow length or less.

Q. I want to play a Dragon Slayer, but that class is not here. What do I do?

A. Use the Warrior Class for skills etc but roleplay being a Dragon Slayer.

Q. Has gunpowder been invented yet?

A. No. Nor are walky-talkies or time machines

Q. Should I bring a torch?

A. You can, but you can’t use it in the game. We use glow sticks to simulate little fairy creatures who light up unsafe areas (aren’t they helpful), but they cannot be picked up unless they don’t light up an area sufficiently! Best to bring a tee-light lantern or better still a lantern and throw a glow stick inside (they look cool and you don’t worry about your costume igniting!). Note that you don’t have to bring a lantern as it will be light enough in most areas but it adds to the atmosphere and some herbs are known to only grow in dark areas and gold is always “secretly” hidden in dark areas by stupid creatures.

Q. Can you organize an adventure for only my group?

A. Yes, contact GC with your idea about the adventure and the number of players that wish to take part.

Q. Can I Ref?

A. Yes, contact us and we'll discus it.

Q. Can I play multiple characters?

A. YES. You can play multiple characters, but obviously you can only play one per dungeon and as long as they are within the levels for that dungeon, if you die you start as a level 1 character (I know it’s a bit tough if you are in a level 7 dungeon but what can you do, just think of the gold you could amass just by surviving). Your character details are kept on file and so when you arrive you ask for that character and your character card is given to you. You cannot enter a dungeon if you are not within the level requirements.

Q. Will I get hurt?

A. You shouldnt. Players must "pull their blows". This means that you must stop the swing of your weapon before you make contact with your opponent. A light tap, role-played to look powerful, is enough. All new players will have a ref or an experienced player to show them how to fight. Headshots do not count!

Q. Do I shout “sharp” or “strike” when I hit someone?

A. Having played several games we have found that due to the darkness of the caverns "Sharp" and "Blunt" dependant on weapon now needs to be called.

All non-standard damage must be called. E.g. “Double Sharp” or “Triple Blunt” or anything with a poison on it
