Weapons
Someone hits you with a Sword and it does 1 hit point of damage.
Example. Debs the Human Warrior (level 1) has 4 global hit points and is struck on the arm by the demon. The demon does not call any special damage. So Debs takes 1 point away from her total hit points. She now has 3 points and Debs acts out that she has been hit and it hurt, and then continues to fight the demon.
All weapons do 1 hit point worth of damage unless they are over 43 inches long and swung in 2 hands, they then do 2 points of damage known as a Double and "double" is called by the attacker.
Example. Debs having defeated the demon is attacked by an undead zombie swinging a 2 handed axe. The Zombie manages to hit Debs on the leg and calls "Double". Debs now takes 2 points from her total. So she is now only on 1 global hit point, she acts injured and hobbles about a bit. If she doesn't get healed soon she is gonna be toast!
Death and Ressurection
When your hit points reach Zero you are unconscious, dying and your pulse stops. You then have 3 mins to be healed (bandages, potions and Herbs don't work on the dying) or you die. However you then have another 3 mins to be resurrected by someone who has the power to do so. If this does not happen then your character is dead dead and you must go to your Ref and create a new level 1 character.
Note a healer of level 7 (or some uber powerful magic items) can ressurect dead people up to10 mins ago. So if your group has a healer level 7 in it best to stay on the floor for 10 mins!
Potions, bandages and Herbs will not work on a someone unconscious and dying (on zero points). Only Spells and Magic Items can get you back on your feet. If not healed in 3 mins you are dead, but some have the power to reserrect so stay on the floor dead like and wait, don't shout out coz that's cheating!
Magic (does exactly what is called against you....)
Example. Frebergin the level 2 halfling ranger has 4 global hit points and is in a dungeon exploring it. He has been given the task of being "point" as he can track and stuff. A terrible wizard acolyte jumps out and casts a fireball at Frebergin. The monster calls "By my power fireball level 2" and points at Frebergin. Now as magic always hits Frebergin cannot use his racial bonus of dodge so he takes the hit. He takes 2 points off his total hit points leaving him with 2. He'd better charge in and chop the Acolyte up quickly if he is gonna survive this one.
Fireball and other damage making spells hit and damage the armour first (see below for armour). Once that has reached zero you start taking damage from your own HP.
Other Magic
A magic user may well cast other spells at you other than fireballs. But most are self-explanitary.
Example. Gurbert the Shaman is attacked by a wizard who casts a spell using a scroll at him saying "By My power I command you to sleep for 3 minutes". Gurbert cannot resist this spell so instantly falls to the ground asleep and cannot be woken for 3 mins. (Make sure you roll out of the way if you might get trampled on!). Gurbert is in trouble coz if his mates run away then his sleeping body is at the mercy of the wizard!!!
Defensive Magic
Most magic users have a spell called shield This is used to reduce the power of a fireball spell aimed at them. A Sorcerer casts fireball level 4 at a mage. The mage decides to use a spell rip to reduce the damage he takes, so he casts "By my power shield level 1". By doing this the mage only takes 3 points of damage and hopefully can stay alive long enough to kill the sorcerer and get his revenge!
Armour and damage
Armour is a useful thing, some classes can wear all types, some only a few and some none at all! This is how it works.
Any damage that hits the player first hits the armour and points are taken off the armour until the armour reaches zero. Now after this any damage is taken from the Global Hit Points of the wearer. Armour will need to be repaired by someone who has the skill of that type of armour before it will protect you again once it reaches zero.
You must have a decent amount of armour for it to count, just wearing Vambraces is not enough, but with either a leather shirt or Greeves then you get the bonus!
Example. Debs having gained some levels (Now a warrior level 4) decides to get some chain mail armour. This counts as 4 points extra. Debs gets in another fight and recieves a blow of Double from her enemy. She takes 2 points away from her armour total, leaving her with 2 points on her armour. (She still has her 6 points of global hit popints on her body). Now her enemy does a special call and hits Debs for a Triple. Wow that hurt. So she removes 2 points from her armour leaving it with zero points and has to take 1 point from her body global hit points. She now has no armour left and only 5 global hit points. She better kick this guys butt soon.
Fireball and other damage making spells hit the armour first.
Armour Hit Points
Fur gains you 1 point of armour
Leather gains you 2 points of armour
Leather with metal (reinforcement not just buckles!) gains you 3 points of armour
Chain Mail gains you 4 points of armour
Plate or Scale Mail gains you 5 points of armour
Plate / Scale Mail with Chain Mail (Worn at same time - as well) gains you 6 points of armour
Armour is judged by a ref, so if in doubt as to whether you leather coat is armour just ask.
Armour bonus is for the highest grade you are wearing.
Example Gerbik wears a Chain mail shirt with a leather jerkin underneath as well as leather vambraces and pauldrons. He gains the bonus of Chain Mail (the highest grade he is wearing).
Once the armour reaches zero he cannot now say that his leather jerkin is now his armour as monsters only damaged the chain mail - this is cheating and anyway this armour got damaged at the same time as the Chain Mail so ha ha!!
He could however carry round (not wear) a full set of plate mail and when his chain mail runs out he can then put on the plate mail armour - this is not cheating, as he has not used the bonus from the armour he was carrying!!
Repairing Armour
You can repair armour if you have the relevant skill for the type of armour you are repairing.
Example A level 2 warrior can only repair fur or leather armour. So if he is wearing chain mail he will have to get someone else to repair it if he can, otherwise as soon as it gets to zero it will be useless. Should have worn the leather stuff instead on this mission!
Repairing armour takes time as well as having the skill to do it. Here are the times for the types of armour. You must do good roleplay to repair the armour, otherwise it might not work!
Furs take 1 min to repair
Leather takes 1 min to repair
Leather with metal takes 90 seconds to repair
Chain Mail takes 90 seconds to repair
Plate or Scale Mail takes 2 mins to repair
Plate or scale Mail with chain mail as well takes 2 mins to repair
