Jake came to us in April 1990 as a 6 week old puppy, along with his sister, Lady.  Hubby had had to put down their family dog, Millie, the November before due to bone cancer.  He really didn't want another dog, but just couldn't keep himself out of the SPCA looking.  Thus, that fateful day in April they called him and told him that they had a litter of small puppies.  We went to look and Hubby found Lady, and while he was cuddling her, the rest of the litter got up to reveal this little soul at the bottom of the pile.  Nature took it's course and we ended up leaving there with TWO puppies.  They were adorable, and terrorized our shoes.  Jake developed stress seizures at the age of two, but they were never bad enough to put him on meds.  Both dogs came to us when they were needed the most.  Unfortunately we lost Lady to congestive heart failure in May of 2005.  We didn't think that Jake would survive without his sister, they were so close.  But survive he did, and now at the age of 18-1/2, almost blind, almost completely deaf and with some neurological problems, I have to face the fact that it's time for him to join his sister, Lady, at the Rainbow Bridge.  I keep hoping to wake up one morning and find that he went peacefully in his sleep, so as to save me the torment of have to do the evil deed.
