Life Of Samuel De Champlain

     Samuel De Champlain was born in Brouage, France. He joined the army whwen he was about 20 and served until 1598. From 1599 and 1601, he maid several voyages to the West Indies, Mexico, and Panama. Champlain returned to France and wrote a book about his voyages. Champlains book interested King Henery IV. Who was eager for France to aquire wealth in America. Henery also hoped the French could find a "North West Passage" (that is a water way through North America to Asia. In 1603, champlain sialed to canada and explored the St. Lawrence River for the King. He also was the first French men to write about the Niagra Falls. In 1605 and 1606, he maid two more voyages along the New England coast in search of a better site for the settlement.
