The Whites

CUP FINAL

DEREHAM TOWN FC U10 WHITES WIN CUP FINAL

DTFCU10W travelled to Watton to play in their second consecutive South Norfolk Plate Cup Final having lost the previous years as U9's to Wymondham Serpents. Dereham had beaten 3 very good teams to make it to the final, Dragons (5-0) , Brandon (7-1) & Wanderers (3-2).

This was the end of an era being the teams last mini soccer game together, next year will see 4 of the squad playing U10's again with the rest moving onto 11 a side. This time round it was against Wymondham Lizards rather than Serpents - a team DTFC had played 4 times each with 2 wins with a combined 16-16 score line ... it was a game too close to call.

DTFC started with Kane Fisher in goal, playing behind Capt Jack Boyce and Nick 'Tricky' Hollyoaks with one from Gareth Matthews or Tommy Blowers in Defensive Mid with 3 from Todd Cantwell, Phil Denton, Lewis Jarrett, Nikos Hinnis or Tom Cockaday playing up front!

Dereham started brightly launching attack after attack with every player working well. Todd, Phil & Lewis working beautifully together asking questions of the Wymondham defence, with Jack, Tricky, Gareth & Kane protecting Dereham's goal whenever facing a counter!

Changes followed to keep the team fresh; with Tommy introduced for Gareth, the team coped well continuing to play good football!

Todd was unlucky to see a long range free kick graze the bar, Phil went close too but the Lizards defence held firm. The 1st 15 belonged to DTFC taking the lead from a Todd corner with Tommy scoring with a superbly headed ball that gave the keeper no chance.

The game swung with Lizards scoring with another sweetly headed goal soon after, now it was the Dereham defence's turn to shine repelling countless attacks from Wymondham who would dominate the last 10. Jack, Tricky, Gareth & Tommy all played their part as did Kanie who was having a great game in goal!

A special mention to Kanie's kicking which was quite superb!

Nikos was introduced and was soon in the thick of it; this team works together with the defence supporting the runners who were tracking back well to help out defensively - the game was now free flowing and end to end.

The 1/2 finished 1-1

The second half started well for both sides, each playing some excellent football befitting a cup final; the Lizards keeper was in excellent form preventing Todd, Phil & Lewis on several occasions

Lewis after a fine run hit the post with a superbly struck shot, the game swung back to DTFC with Gareth pushing up supporting the forwards seeking a winning goal which came from Phil who scored his 52nd of the season with a sweetly placed left across the goal.

Tom was introduced and chased down a ball heading for a Wymondham throw which he saved turning he hit a 1st time pass into Todd's feet on the edge of the box who found Phil who scored his 2nd and his teams 3rd.

To their credit Wymondham never gave up, kept playing football and put the Dereham defence under huge pressure for the last 5 with the Dereham boys protecting the 2 goal margin magnificently

DTFC won the Cup 3-1

Man of the Match ... the team, both teams - excellent football witb a 'classy' attitude

Special mentions .... To Kev & Nath who understood why we trained as we did the last 3 weeks and supported the Whites every step of the way, to the 'Blacks' who gave 100% in training - thank you, you each helped us be ready for that game!

To Emily, on tour with NCFC, to Liam, Daniel & Sam thanks for the part you played in the cup run ... each of you has a hand on the Cup and each of you can travel to Thetford to collect a winners medal!

Gary's notes ... what a game, what a day, what a journey, my last game as Manager of DTFCU10'S ... your last mini soccer game, your last game as the 'Whites' ... you were all simply quite excellent - i wish you well

Dereham Wanderers 2 - 3 DTFCU10W
South Norfolk Plate Cup Semi Final

Dereham Town FC U10W travelled to play Dereham Wanderers; in effect a home game away, in the South Norfolk Plate Cup Semi Final playing for a spot in the finals to be played at Watton on May 6th.

DTFC started with Kane Fisher in goal, playing behind 2 from Captain Jack Boyce, Gareth Matthews, Tommy Blowers, Sam Wilson & Tom Cockaday with Lewis Jarrett, Todd Cantwell & Phil Denton playing upfront.

The away team, last seasons finalists started strongly, launching attack after attack, the Wanderers keeper hadn't read the script and played superbly; he would become my man of the match!

DTFC came close many times, finding the keeper in fine form or hitting the woodwork several times, Lewis, Todd & Phil were playing some lovely football without reward.

The DTFC defence coping well with the odd counter, until the 20th when Wanderers broke with speed giving Kane no chance. DTFC responded well with Phil converting a Todd corner for his 51st goal of the season.

The 1/2 finished 1-1

The DTFC coaches sent their team back out for the 2nd to play football and too the whistle!

DTFC reorganised with Tom at right back, Gareth at left with Jack pushing into defensive mid, the changes paid off with Todd scoring a lovely 2nd assisted by Phil.

The game began to swing end to end after DTFC had dominated the 1st 45 kept at bay by some excellent goal keeping ... then Tom Cockaday met a clearance at the 1/2 way line which he thumped back into the box with just one bounce it cleared the keeper and struck the net!

With 10 mins left DTFC tightened their defence introducing a patient Sam Wilson who would make a vital clearance with his 1st touch.

Wanderers scored a 2nd after DTFC failed to clear their lines deep into injury time, Jack was moved to sweeper looking to close out the game at 3-2.

The last few seconds seeming like hours before the ref whistled bringing a hard fought game to the end, sending DTFC to the South Norfolk Finals for the 2nd year running!

Man of the Match Todd Cantwell

Closing thoughts; credit to Wanderers who have made huge progress this Season, they have got better each time we played them ... we knew we had a game on today

Gary's notes ... well that was a hard won game, i have nothing other to say to my team except you played and beat 3 very good teams to make it to the final ... enjoy the moment ... and well done to each of you that has contributed to this journey ... its a team game not everyone can make the journey to Watton but each of the Whites have been given the opportunity to have pitch time in this cup run as we did last year.

It's never an easy call, we have the same 2 options as every other team to take 8 to keep consistency on the pitch; vital for a tough game or 9 or 10 to try to see everyone having a taste ... in easy games you can roll the changes out through the game ... in a tough game its harder

i missed Tom's goal; but he described it too me several times ... he was trying to find a team mate  but very happy with the bounce!

I am as ever proud of our squad

Sometimes even the best of teams have to grind out a result which is what you did today, not everything went our way but you worked your socks off, you kept playing football and your reward is another final ...

DTFCU10W 5 - 2 Wymondham Serpents

Dereham entertained Wymondham Serpents on a balmy Thursday evening, playing their last league game of the season - Serpents looking certain to be the League Runners Up having lost only 3 times all Season including 2 to the undefeated Bulldogs!

Dereham started with Kane Fisher in goal and 2 from Captain Tricks Hollyoaks, Jack Boyce and Tommy Blowers in defence with 4 from Emily Woodhouse, Todd Cantwell, Phil Denton, Lewis Jarrett, Gareth Matthews and Nikos Hinnis playing across the middle.

The home team started brightly taking the game to Serpents, playing the football that had seen them beat a very good Dragons & Brandon in the cup.

Todd opened the scoring with a brillantly taken goal, soon followed by Phil who had chased in a cracking shot from distance by Todd that crashed against the bar with Phil scoring from an accute angle. Dereham were now playing beautiful football with each player contributing well.

Kane made a couple of excellent saves denying Serpents the chance to get back into the game, Tricks was having a magnificent game at left back with Jack, Gareth & Tommy also having excellent games denying Serpents time on the ball. Emily 'bossed' center defence working well with the ever busy Lewis who with a lovely flick to Todd who scored the home teams 3rd.

The Serpents keeper was having a good game, he would become our man of the match denying 3 very good efforts from Nikos. Serpents scored from an excellent deflected long range free kick giving Kane no chance, the 1/2 finished at 3-1.

The Dereham Managers sent the team out with a 1/2 time note to work their socks off for the next 10 knowing that serpents would throw everything to get back into the game!

Phil scored twice more to complete his hat trick the 3rd being his 50th goal of the season, the 1st after a lovely run down the wing from Gareth with a couple of tricks thrown in, Serpents got one back following an excellent double save before the ball was deflected into the goal.

The game finished with dereham scoring all 7 at 5-2.

This was an excellent team performance against a very good Serpents team, a game that every Dereham player could take pride in!

Man of the Match Kane Fisher
Hat Trick Hero Phil Denton

Gary's notes ... this was DTFCU10W at their best, each one of you had a great game. Kane was as ever exceptional, the best shot stopper in the league! Tricks was quite superb at the back as were Jack, having another mature polished game at rb and Tommy too. Lewis had another good game playing bravely through a painful injury, Todd was Todd - Serpents must have thought that there were 8 playing 4 DTFC not 7, Emily was a rock at center mid bossing the game, Nikos had a great game with 3 very good attempts on goal well saved by the Serpents keeper and Phil proved once gain that his 1st touch and finishing is as good as it gets. Gareth once gain proving his ability at left back or left wing - a lovely run down the wing!

Play like that in the morning and we stand a very good chance of making the cup final for the second year running!

Gary, Hef and I together with your families are very proud of you ... your football is a joy to watch!

Brandon 1 - 7 DTFCU10W

Cup 1/4 Final

SOUTH NORFOLK PLATE CUP 1/4 FINAL

Dereham Town FC U10 Whites travelled to Brandon to play in the South Norfolk Plate Cup 1/4 final on Easter Sunday.

DTFC started with Kane Fisher in goal playing behind 2 from Jack Boyce, Gareth Matthews & Tommy Blowers with Captain Emily Woodhouse, Lewis Jarrett, Todd Cantwell & Phil Denton playing across the middle.

The away team started brightly playing some beautiful football, this team renowned for its passing game and its work ethic, the 1st goal fell to Todd finishing off an excellent move involving the ball being played out of defence through midfield, Phil then scored 3 cracking goals to complete a 1st half hat trick to finish the 1/2 at 4-0.

The scoreline did not reflect a keenly contested game.

Brandon countered hard after the break looking for a way back in but found the Dereham defence in fine form with Jack, Gareth & Tommy making some superb tackles with Kane making some crucial saves including a double save that had goal written all over it.

Emily, Lewis, Todd & Phil were involved in some wonderful passing moves that created chance after chance with Phil scoring his 4th after a sublime touch before Todd scored another to make it 6-0.

The Brandon keeper made a couple of excellent saves, his team still trying to play football and they scored a nice consolation before Phil closed the game out at 7-1.

Next stop a Dereham Derby in the semi's with DTFC playing Dereham Wanderers next Saturday ... the prize for the Winners a spot in the Finals to be played at Watton.

Hat Trick Hero Phil Denton 5
Man of the Match Emily
Special Mention to the team this was an awesome team game!

Gary's notes ... just very pleased 4 u ... your football a joy matched by your attitude, well played Brandon with a touch of class at the end ... to my team just keep playing to your strengths which are all about football

Lizards 6 - 3 DTFC

I have to go and pack as i am up at 4.30 and off on holiday (who said again?) so for now just a quickie ... that was a hard hard game; but you kept your heads up trying to play football ... as ever i am proud of you, your football and your attitude ... my man of the match was Craig their goalkeeper who had an exceptional game, nice to hear the DTFC supporters and coaches telling him so.

Congratulations to Lizards, with that form and attitude they could yet finish runners up!

We have played each other 4 times with honours even ... enjoy training with Gary B and look foward to playing our old friends 'Serpents' on the 12th and of course first the 1/4 final v Brandon on the 8th ... i may need lots of coffee as we get back about 2am on the 8th!

Man of the Match Todd

DTFC 1 - 2 Watton Rangers

Dereham Town U10 Whites entertained Watton Rangers on Sunday with the home team starting with Liam Sewell in goal playing behind Tom Cockaday & Gareth Matthews with 4 from Captain Matt Chapman, Jack Boyce, Lewis Jarrett, Nikos Hinnis, Dominic Scarff or Daniel Foster playing across the middle.

The 1st half was keenly contested; with Dereham coming close several times but falling behind to an excellent Watton free kick on the edge of the area.

Liam made some fine saves to keep Dereham in the game, with some excellent defending from Tom & Gareth, with Tom off his sick bed to cover for some late withdrawals, 3 in 36 hours through illness.

The midfield was working hard with Matti, Jack & Lewis working their socks off with Nikos & Dom busy upfront. The 1/2 finished 0-2 following a scruffy 2nd goal.

Dereham made changes in the 2nd 1/2 with Daniel having a good game, asking questions of the Watton defence.

Lots of Dereham pressure paid off with Lewis scoring his 19th of the season, this rejuvenated the home side who pushed hard for what would have been a thoroughly deserved equaliser!

Man of the match Lewis Jarrett

Gary's Notes ...for the second week running we played a game that some may have called off, we had lost 3 of the squad over the last 36 hours with 'bugs' but we played it and like last week you worked your socks off, never giving up ... like last week you deserved a draw.

As you know i am proud of your wins ... but never more so than today ... Tom could not have played the day b4 but we were short and he had one of his best games yet, Liam made some superb stops keeping us in the game, Gareth winning tackle after tackle. Matti C, Jack & Lewis gave the team everything in mid field; with Nikos and Dom contributing well with a special mention to Daniel who came on in the 2nd 1/2 and made a difference!

2 leagues games left; Lizards & Dragons ... and the plate in between ... at our best and with a FIT SQUAD we can beat anyone, anytime ... anywhere

Lastly; credit to Rangers they worked hard together as a unit often 2 on one in attack and defense ... they would have enjoyed this win but would be aware that they played in a hard but good game

Swaffham 3 - DTFC 2

Match report to follow - its Mothers Day : )
4 Now ... you almost pulled it off ...

We went with a squad of 8 including 2 goal keepers, without Todd [injured] 2 days before; without Emily who was playing 4 NCFC and without Tommy B not available the night b4 ... not many squads could compete so well against a tough hard working team with 3 such players missing - you can be proud of your effort

At 2 each with 60 seconds to go - our corner with Swaffham under pressure but ... they scored deep into injury time ... each of you worked your socks of playing football on a windswept pitch that did nothing 4 the game

You did not deserve to lose today - a draw would have been fairer ...

Credit to both teams hardly a 3kick all game

Match Report
DTFC set of on a very windy day to play Swaffham without 3 key players but confident that those playing would push a hard working well organised Swaffham all the way, the conditions did not suit any footballing team with a huge wind blowing across the pitch in the same direction as a rather big slope making for scruffy football with balls being either blown into or out of play.

Dereham started with Liam Sewell in goal, with 2 from Jack Boyce, Tom Cockaday, Captain Gareth Matthews or Kane Fisher in defence with Phil Denton, Lewis Jarrett and Nikos Hinnis playing upfront.

Dereham started well, the goal was only a mtter of time coming from Phil Denton his 37th of the season from some 14 starts, Swaffham soon replied with a cracking shot that gave Liam no chance, Swaffham took the lead through an excellent Dereham clearance that bounced back from a Swaffham heel that let the Swaffham striker dribble a ball to goal almost cleared by a sliding Gareth.

The 1/2 finished 2-1

Dereham started the 2nd half strongly with Phil scoring from what seemed an impossible angle to make it 2-2. Phil almost scored his 3rd shooting from distance with Swaffham chasing the ball into the net clearing it inches from the line!

60 seconds left on the clock, Dereham applying pressure searching for the winner winning a corner only to see Swaffham break scoring in the last few seconds ...

Man of the Match Phil Denton

Gary's notes ... we took 8 players with 2 goal keepers ... the 8 of you gave the game everything you had, the conditions were dire ... it was good to see Nikos with lots of pitch time and Kanie playing out of goal ... we never quite got our shape with players playing out of normal positions ...

The squad has had a good season, still playing for the cup, we have some excellent wins under our belts, Lizards, Dragons, Swaffham, Brandon, Thetford Indies ... we have lost a couple that we hoped to compete in but over the 7 months you have much to be proud off

Good luck next week!

I have said it b4 ... at your best you can win any game

DTFC 5 - Wymondham Dragons 0

Dereham Town Under 10 Whites played Wymondham in the South Norfolk Cup knowing it would be a tough game, with Wymondham having lost only 3 times this season, both teams were playing for a place in the 1/4 finals to take on Brandon.

DTFC started with Kane Fisher in goal playing behind 2 from Captain Jack Boyce, Tommy Blowers or Gareth Matthews with 4 from Todd Cantwell, Phil Denton, Emily Woodhouse, Lewis Jarrett or Tom Cockaday.

The game started at a frantic pace with both teams playing some very good football, with the Wymondham keeper in fine form repelling several early Dereham attacks. Phil scored the 1st a cracking goal - then set Todd up for Derehams second with Phil shielding the ball under pressure before finding Todd who buried the shot giving the keeper no chance!

The game flowed from end to end with Wymondham mounting some good counters but each time they found Derehams defence in magnificent form with Kane having a great game in Derehams goal, with Tommy & Gareth making timely interceptions with Jack a rock at rb playing his best game yet.

Emily playing a very good game in defensive mid, a position that she has settled into, supporting both the backs and the mids, was next to score from some distance to make it 3-0 at 1/2 time. Emily like Lewis, Todd and Phil had covered every inch of the pitch - each of them working for the team with Lewis making block after block whilst Phil & Todd teased and tormented the opposing defence, I have said it before but i wouldn't want to be a 10 year old defender facing these 2!

The second 1/2 started with Liam Sewell in goal; we are fortunate to have 2 such excellent keepers in the squad and Liam was soon on his knees making a fine save as Dragons pushed for the goal that would give them hope.

The Dereham team now settled into a classy passing hard working team playing for fun with Phil scoring his second, Todd soon after hitting a quite wonderful free kick from distance that rattled the bar and the touchline. The Dragons keeper deserving a special mention keeping Dereham at bay on countless occasions ...

Tom was introduced and after a lovely run down the right hit a perfect ball into the box for Todd to wrap the game up at 5-0.

A quite excellent team performance against a very good Wymondham Team

Man of the Match Emily Woodhouse

Gary's notes ... you were all simply excellent today, you can each be very proud of a game very well played against tough opposition ... it was fun watching you - keep it up! 10 players of which 3 were under 9's

Dereham Wanderers 1 - DTFC 6

Dereham Town U10's played Dereham Wanderers in the local Derby on Sunday, with Dereham Town starting with Kane Fisher in goal, playing behind 2 from Jack Boyce, Tom Cockaday & Sam Wilson in defence with 4 from Captain Todd Cantwell, Phil Denton, Emily Woodhouse, Nikos Hinnis & Daniel Foster playing across the middle.

Wanderers started well, it was good to see the progression made by this team under their Manager since the last game; with Wanderers scoring the 1st goal! Dereham Town knew they had a game to win - responding well with Phil scoring the 1st having put the defence under immense pressure.

Wanderers countered; but a resolute Town defence held firm with Jack & Tom making some timely tackles with Kane having a good game between the sticks!

Phil scored a second soon after; resulting in the team playing some lovely football mounting countless attacks kept at bay by a very good Wanderers keeper. The midfield was keenly contested bringing the best out of Phil, Emily, Nikos & Todd who scored an excellent goal to finish the 1st 1/2 Wanderers 1 DTFC 3.

Changes followed with Dereham keeping their shape with Todd scoring 2 the 1st was after a sublime run which was finished clinically giving the Wanderers keeper no chance

The last 10 mins saw Dereham Town playing some of the best passing football i have seen at this level with the ball being stroked around the pitch with each element working together beautifully with Phil completing his hat trick to make the final score Dereham Wanderers 1 Dereham Town 6

Credit to Wanderers who fought for every ball and too DTFC for a game well played

Man of The Match Todd Cantwell
Hat Trick Heroes Phil Denton & Todd Cantwell

Gary's notes; well played ... it was nice to see the Derby played in such good spirit; with Wanderers playing some nice football, a huge improvement from the 1st game - well done DW keep it up boys!

As to DTFC well done; it was nice to see Sam having a good 1/2 at left back making some nice tackles and distributing the ball well, good to see Daniel on the pitch involved in lots of plays ... i have said it many times we have a big squad and it was great to see Gareth, Tommy & Lewis supporting the team on their rest day!

Kane, another very good game; Jack, Tom & Sam excellent in defence, Jack it was a polished performance; with Emily, Todd, Phil, Nikos & Daniel all in fine form working their socks off

Another TEAM Game ... you will need to be at your best next week! : ) although for the 1st time in ages we will have a full squad to pick from ...

DTFC 7 - Brandon 2

Dereham Town U10 Whites entertained a very hardworking and well organised Brandon Team knowing they would have to be at their best to win the game, having won the 1st game 1-0 away.

Dereham started with Liam Sewell in goal playing behind 2 from Captain Tommy Blowers, Jack Boyce & Gareth Matthews with 4 from Todd Cantwell, Phil Denton, Emily Woodhouse, Lewis Jarrett, Nikos Hinnis & Tom Cockaday.

The home team started brightly launching attack after attack kept at bay by a very good Brandon Keeper, Dereham scored 1st through Todd - the lead didn't last very long as Brandon equalised with a cracking counter.

Dereham were now playing some lovely passing football from defence to midfield resulting in a lovely goal from Phil, who displayed an excellent 1st touch followed by a clinical finish, shortly followed by another to make it 3-1. Liam kept the 2 goal lead with a superb save from a very well struck Brandon freekick, the game felt balanced and was keenly contested before Todd just about closed it out with a wonderful free kick from distance and another just before 1/2 time to make it 5-1.

The 2nd 1/2 started with a lively Dereham, no doubt their Coaches words still fresh - that Brandon were not beaten yet that they would reorganise and would fight for the game. Phil scored a superb goal to complete his hat-trick with the visitors grabbing a nice second before Todd finished off to end the game 7-2.

The Score not doing justice to a very good game played between 2 very hard working teams. Everyone of the Dereham Players deserved a share in this man of the match, Liam had a great game in goal, with Tommy, Jack & Gareth strong and resolute in defence with Emily having an excellent game at defensive mid, with the mid-fielders Tom, Lewis, Nikos, Todd & Phil all in fine form ... another team game!

Man of the Match - Todd Cantwell
Hat-trick Heros Todd & Phil Denton

Gary's notes ... quite simply you were all excellent; working hard for each other - keep it up, but don't forget that the 'easy' pass hit hard enough can cut through a defense

Nikos another good game, check out April 15th you have earnt another squad call!

Thetford Inds 7 - DTFC 2

Await match report ... and stats from Hef & Gary B
If it's any consolation the weather in Lanzarote on Sunday was wet wet wet
For now well done Thetford on reversing the earlier 15-3

New Bucks 4 - DTFC 15

Dereham Town U10 travelled to New Buckenham to play the Bucks on a bright winters morning, Dereham started with Kane Fisher in goal playing behind 2 from Capt Tom Cockaday, Gareth Matthews & Sam Wilson, with 4 from Emily Woodhouse, Lewis Jarrett, Todd Cantwell, Phil Denton and Nikos Hinnis playing across the middle.

Dereham started well with Phil scoring almost from the kick off with Todd making it 2-0 after some excellent linking play with Lewis & Emily. The 3rd followed after a great save by the Bucks keeper from Emily, with both Phil & Emily hitting the post from loose balls before Phil tucked it home - soon followed by Derehams 4th from Phil after a great assist from Lewis.

Dereham were now playing excellent football maintaining their shape rather than chasing the goal with Todd scoring 1 more with a further 2 from Phil with Lewis scoring his 1st the teams 100th goal of the season to make it 7-0 with the home side scoring a nice goal to go in 7-1 at half time.

Dereham made a couple of changes, starting the second half as they had played the 1st with as many as 6 or 7 passes between shots with Phil scoring another taking his tally to 5 demonstrating why he is the teams highest scorer with 28 in the season - excellent 1st touch allied with clinical finishing!

Todd got 3 more for his double hat trick just one back from Phil's seasons total, with Nikos scoring a lovely goal after a great solo run into the box, followed by a second from Lewis with Emily scoring with a beautiful free kick in the last few seconds.

The game finished Bucks 4 Dereham 15 - both sides played some great football, special mention to the Dereham Defence who had to deal with 2 lively forwards.

The Dereham Team can be proud of this one!

Credit to Bucks ... it has been good to see them win a couple!

Man of the match - Lewis Jarrett
Hat Trick Hero's Todd Cantwell 6 Phil Denton 5

Garys' thoughts ...

Well played each and every one of you ... Kane another good game between the sticks, making some telling saves, you with Tom, Gareth & Sam had to look after a couple of very good forwards, with each of the defenders making some great tackles.

Emily had an excellent - hard working game in a new position being defensive mid capped with a superb long range free kick, Lewis worked his socks off as did double hat trick hero Todd. Phil set the game up scoring a hat trick in the 1st 15, with Nikos having another very good game.

Sam's best game yet.

Another good game from Nikos following a very good game at Northwold

I was impressed with how you kept your shape - keeping the wide players wide but packing the middle with lots of passing - keep it up 4 Hef and Gary whilst i am away!

Like the Northwold Game ... a lovely way to spend a Sunday Morning with both sides supporters enjoying the game and appreciating the other teams game.

9 out of 10 4 the ref too - excellent job!

NB: Last seasons highest scorers with that total from 20 games passed in just 16

Lastly; i am often asked by other Managers which Dereham Team they are playing ... they know that we have a large squad, that the Whites have 4 under nines, 3 of which only play for us every other week, that our Black team has to borrow from us from time to time to compete in the Norfolk League, that our team changes from week to week which can make for some interesting reading ... on this form though the gap between our teams is getting smaller ... its good to see some of the squad getting the chance to play more football and good football too.

Nice also that some of the regulars were happy to watch from the touchline

Like every large squad we have the problem in spreading the games around the players looking to compete in each game that we can.

Watton Wanderers 2 - DTFC 0

Watton deserved this win; they wanted every ball, they gave 100% from 1st to last whistle. They are a very different team to the team that we beat 5-0 ... we knew they would be - any team that can beat Serpents is a team to take seriously!

That said DTFC went without 3 players, one dropping out the night before with a 'bug' and played the game with 3 boys still recovering ...

Well played Watton!

Dereham travelled to play a vastly improved Watton Wanderers, already this seasons South Norfolk League Cup Finalists. Dereham started with Captain Liam Sewell in goal playing behind Tom Cockaday & Tommy Blowers with 4 from Jack Boyce, Gareth Matthews, Emily Woodhouse, Lewis Jarrett & Dominic Scarff playing across the middle.

Watton started well dominating the 1st 10 with Dereham defending in numbers, with Liam making a couple of excellent saves early on, the Watton midfield was superb always fighting for the ball.

A number of decisions went against the visitors ... Dereham did well to get in at 1/2 time 0-0 with credit to the 2 Toms playing in defence. The 0-0 score not reflecting an end to end game with countless breaks from both sides.

The second 1/2 started much the same way as the 1st with the 1st goal crucial - which went to Watton from a superb long range strike that gave Liam no chance. Watton went 2 up which seemed to spur on the Dereham boys who finally found their game easily dominating the last 15 with Gareth, Jack, Emily & Lewis coming into the game with several attempts on goal - 2 well saved by the Watton keeper.

The game finished 2-0

Gary's thoughts ... Liam had a great game, very brave, Tom and Tommy worked very hard at the back with both playing some good football with Tom C probably playing his best game of the Season! Jack & Gareth tried to take the game to Watton whilst Emily & Lewis toiled throughout the game with the wingers hitting a tough and excellent Watton Midfield, with Dom ever busy upfront!

This was not your best game of the season, you probably know that ... your coaches are always honest with you ... we looked a tad slow, at times outfought and lacking pace ... we started playing football in the last 15 when we dominated the game coming close several times ... that said 3 of you were suffering/recovering from 'bugs' so we shouldn't read too much into this game!

At our best we can beat anyone ... We need to find our touch, our passing, our movement [supporting the ball and each other] our desire to get stuck in ... you need to talk to each other, to work for each other - in short how you have played every other game that i have seen this season.

Roll on next week ... i know you will be looking foward to playing again ... let's hope 4 a fit squad

Lastly; i hesitated b4 concluding with a moan ... but i like a ref to ref 8, 9 & 10 year olds with a firm but gentle hand with a smile on his face ... with the odd marginal call in favour of the away team ... i have only ever said one thing to Hef the Ref if in doubt call it in favour of our guests

Man of the Match - Emily

Northwold 0 - DTFC 7

Dereham Town FC U10's travelled to play Northwold - Dereham started with Kane Fisher in goal, playing behind Tom Cockaday & Tommy Blowers with Jack Boyce in defensive mid with Gareth Matthews & Captain [Birthday boy] Lewis Jarrett wide with Daniel Foster playing upfront.

Dereham started brightly with some lovely football played through the whole team but kept at bay by one of the finest goalkeepers in the league, it took some excellent football to breach the home sides goal with the 1st falling to Lewis. Nikos Hinnis was introduced up front and scored a cracker to make it 2-0. Sam Wilson came on in defense - the team coping well with the changes continuing to take the game to Northwold.

The second half was played in the same excellent spirit with Dereham scoring 5 without reply - Lewis scoring a brace to complete his hat-trick, Nikos grabbing his second after a lovely run with Gareth & Jack scoring one each.

The game finished at 7-0 but make no mistake the Northwold Keeper had a superb game - the Dereham boys played some excellent football with good movement and support with some great passing often involving 3 or 4 touches ... before a strike launched.

Credit to Northwold on a game well played ...

Man of the Match Jack Boyce
Hat-trick Hero Lewis Jarrett

Gary's notes ...

Well played guy's nice to see Daniel, Nikos & Sam playing well ... Nikos playing his best game yet for the Whites ... with Kane concentrating well in goal ... Tommy & Tom solid at the back with Gareth & Lewis always dangerous on the wings ... and lastly another polished game in defensive mid from our man of the match Jack B ... well played all of you!

As you know i have to have one note - when facing such a good keeper don't keep testing him from distance or acute angles ... keep passing the ball ... balls into the box/far post can ask more questions than a long range shot

Today i lost count of the attempts on goal ... it was good to see so much football played with such good passing and movement from the Dereham team met with some truly excellent saves ...

Thetford Bulldogs 4 DTFC 2

Match report to follow, for now well played boys, you met and matched the best team in the league, the scoreline not reflecting the game, which was end to end with countless chances falling to both sides ... the game played in an excellent spirit by both teams with both teams playing some excellent football ... with Dereham putting the home team under huge pressure during both halves - playing the second 1/2 without a sub ... we were on balance unlucky not to get a point!

We missed Philli after 20 ... update Phil is feeling sore but seemingly not the same injury that cost him 6 weeks last season ... phew - but may miss the U9 game in the morning?

Dereham Town travelled to Thetford to play the unbeaten Bulldogs, last years Champions, Dereham being the only team to have beaten them in the last 2 seasons.

Dereham started with Captain Liam Sewell in goal playing behind Tommy Blowers and Jack Boyce with Gareth Matthews playing Defensive mid with Phil Denton left Todd Cantwell in the middle with Lewis Jarrett playing right.

Dereham started brightly, more than matching the home side having several chances to take the lead, from the start you knew the 1st goal would be worth 2 or 3!

Dereham pushed and probed and could have scored on several occasions but fell behind to a well taken goal. The game was fast with the Bulldogs breaking quickly on the counter always asking questions of the Dereham defence with Liam, Jack & Tommy performing well.

Dereham pushed hard trying to take the game to Bulldogs with Todd always dangerous working well with Phil who was injured in the twentieth minute taking no further part in the game.

Dereham had to reorganise with Tom Cockaday on at right back, Jack moved to defensive mid and Gareth taking Phil's space on the left. The team coped well with the changes finishing the half at 0-1. Dereham started the 2nd half well dominating play for periods with the home team on the back foot, not something they are used too. Jack scored a beautiful equaliser to breath fresh hope into Dereham only to fall behind to 2 counters.

Bulldogs are used to closing out games, but Dereham had other ideas, this team with 3 Under Nines playing [4 in the squad], missing a few players including Emily on duty for NCFC and with their highest scorer injured - they pulled their socks up and played football forcing their way back into the game with Dereham pressure forcing a penalty which was brilliantly converted by Todd.

At 3-2 the improvised Dereham team looked the better team for long periods ... the last 10 was played at a frantic pace with Dereham pushing for what would have been a deserved equaliser with several near misses the Thetford goal led a charmed life ... Dereham knew the risks of pushing hard and conceded a scruffy 4th goal to finish Thetford 4 Dereham 2

An excellent game of football played by both sides in an excellent spirit!

Man of the Match Gareth Matthews

A note to my team ... as ever i am proud of you ... most teams, supporters are not aware that we play 4 under nines ... that we rotate and use 18 players ... that our team changes from game to game ... it is to your credit that you play the football that you play!

Today we lost one of the leagues highest scorers for 2/3rds of the game, our Em was playing for NCFC who won 1-0 currently undefeated ... and we had a few others not playing .... yet you still pushed a very good team all the way, Bulldogs will be pleased with the result - but very aware that today they took part in a very competitive game!

Robert can be proud of his team who look set to win the league [again] playing very good football whilst retaining a good attitude on the pitch - not an easy thing to do - I would like to play them again at the seasons end in a friendly when both teams have a full squad to pick from with nothing to play for except football ... that would be a game to look forward too ...

Wymondham Serpents 1 DTFC 0

Match report to follow; for now well played ... to those of you who didn't play today ... the list is long ... you can be proud of the effort and the football played by those who played today!

The Whites were unlucky not to get something out of the game!

Dereham Town FC Under 10's travelled to Wymondham to play the Serpents in the 1/4 finals of the League Cup.

The game was played in pretty awful conditions with much of the pitch soon turning into a mud bath, making for a busy and compacted midfield - not suiting Dereham's usual wide pacey passing game.

Dereham started with Ant Corder in goal playing behind Nick Hollyoaks, Matt Chapman with 4 from Captain Emily Woodhouse, Daniel Screen, Gareth Matthews, Jack Boyce, Dominic Slater, Liam Sewell or Tom Cockaday playing in front.

The 1st half was played in the middle of the park with Serpents slightly the stronger of the 2 teams, the Dereham Defence were quite excellent with Tricks, Matti and Ant playing some superb football - with Ant having no chance with the Serpents goal. The Dereham midfield were hard working and hard pressed coping well with what was thrown at them.

The conditions made for few shots at goal - but when Dereham countered through Daniel, Emily, Gareth or Jack they were always a handful. Liam and Dominic were both introduced in the 1st half - with both boys contributing well.

At half time Dereham reorganised with 2 of the stronger players moving to the middle where the game was being most keenly contested, the change paid dividends as Dereham pushed hard for what would have been a deserved equaliser building from a strong defense and toughened centre mid.

If Dereham had lost the 1st half - they won the second, launching attack after attack with Gareth hitting a post, Daniel the goalkeepers back and Jack coming close with a powerful shot.

The game was played with hardly a foot out of place ... with few free kicks, the ball constantly played on - each of the players from both teams were exhausted when the whistle blew, each of them having given everything to the game.

The Game finished 1-0 but the Dereham Players could hold their heads high.

Man of the match Gareth Matthews

Gary's notes ... well played a good team performance
Ant a cracking game in goal ... well done - we are lucky to have 3 excellent keepers on the squad!
Tricks & Matti were both simply excellent ... well played Matti your best game for the Whites so far!
Emily, Jack, Gareth, Daniel, Liam, Dom & Tom ... well done you gave everything

Lastly thanks to Dom, Liam & Tom for their patience in the 2nd 1/2 ... it's not fun watching from the 'bench' but at 0-1 with time running out but with the game with Dereham we had to let those on try to snatch a draw

PS; i hate to moan ... but

i don't like to see players aged 9 & 10 pushing or being pushed, its not what we preach or practice  ... a push in the back when taking a shot or making a clearance should result in a free kick being awarded ... it spoilt an otherwise enjoyable game

Good Luck Serpents!

Wymondham Dragons 2 DTFC 6

A cracking game, match report to follow but for now very well played DTFC ... you kept your heads and let your football do the talking!

... an excellent game between 2 very good footballing sides ... with football the winner

Dereham Town FC U10's travelled to Wymondham to play the Dragons who had played 9 winning 8, DTFC knew they had to be at their best and to win to stay 2nd.

Dereham started with Liam Sewell in goal, playing behind 2 from Jack Boyce, Tommy Blowers and Gareth Matthews with 4 from Todd Cantwell, Captain Daniel Screen, Phil Denton, Lewis Jarrett and Tom Cockaday.

The game started at a frantic pace, with both teams attacking well, asking questions of each others defence, Dereham scored first through Lewis and then moved 2 ahead after a blistering shot from Phil from the edge of the Dragon's area.

Dereham were the better side through the first 20 with each boy playing well, they could have scored more had the Dragons keeper not been in such fine form. Dragons clawed one back finishing the half strongly with the score at 2-1 in favour of Dereham.

Dereham started the second half well, knowing that the Dragons would be pushing hard, Todd, Lewis & Daniel were playing some lovely passing football linking well with Gareth playing defensive mid with Jack & Tommy performing valiantly in defence in front of an impressive Liam - with Tom or Phil working well at the other end chasing every ball, applying pressure at every turn.

Phil scored his second to make it 1-3. The Dragons were given a penalty when Liam was adjudged to have fouled a Dragon, which Liam deservedly saved, games as tight as this one can hinge on a moment - had the Dragons have scored it could have swung the balance of play ... to the point where Dereham heads could have dropped allowing the Dragons back into the game.

The missed penalty chance however seemed to spur the Dereham boys on even more, their already impressive work rate and team ethic increasing with Dereham determined to play football - they enjoyed a sustained period of solid possession with Lewis completing his hat-trick with 2 more well taken goals after some good linking play through the midfield to make the game secure at 5-1

Dragons scored a consolation goal in injury time ... in the dying seconds Daniel collected a ball deep in his own half dribbling past 3 Dragons before scoring a lovely goal to finish Dereham 6 Dragons 2

Credit to the Wymondham lad's on a game well played ...

Man of the match Daniel Screen
Hat Trick Hero - Lewis Jarrett

Gary's thoughts to follow ... for now enjoy the win - you deserved it!

Liam ... another brave & impressive performance in goal ... well done!
Jack ... continues the run of excellent games, brave, strong and composed in defence and dangerous on the break - keep it going
Tommy ... like Jack a rock at the back ... keep it up Tommy you have had a superb last few weeks ... strong in the tackle and giving excellent support to the mids
Gareth ... a very good defender, who played defensive mid and attacking left mid yesterday - an excellent game, with twisting turning runs on the break but ever mindful of the need to cover the gap that can exist between Defense & Mid
Lewis ... as ever industrious, working hard for his team, with some lovely linking with those around him polished off with a superb hat trick!
Todd ... always gives you 100% and yesterday was no exception, worked his socks off leading the line and helping to cover the back with some great blocks ...
Phil ... you can [almost] bet your last penny that he will give you a goal and an impressive one at that ... yesterday he gave the team 2 the 1st was a blistering shot that gave a very good keeper no chance
Tom ... had a good session, working well with those around him - some neat passes
Daniel ... Has put in some good performances for the team but yesterday was his best, deserving of the MOM ... his goal was a joy to watch - the cherry on top of a big cake

Conclusions; at your best you can beat anyone, you have proven that during the last 2 years, we have a big squad, not everyone gets to play each week, we have players representing NCFC [2] and DTFCU9's [3] making for changes in formation most weeks - it is to your credit that you cope as well as you do - yesterday we had 3 under nines playing -  including 2 players that we share with the DTFCU9 Norfolk League Side ...

If we had a lesson yesterday it is
1) Listen to your coaches ... we tell you it as it is ... our creed is not to argue with the ref ... even if you know/think it was a bad call ...
2) We can when attacking expose ourselves to the counter or loss of possession ... Gary B spotted that we were pushing hard being 2-0 up [1st phase accomplished] but were leaving a big gap between the front line and Jack & Tommy ... which Gareth & Daniel filled very well!

Enjoy the memory

Watton Rangers 3 DTFC 3

I await the match details ... so report to follow

I understand that you played well ... and that Gary B & Hef were very pleased with your efforts ... missing 5 of the regulars it shows both the strength in depth within DTFCU10'S and the willingness to play football ... you are as ever a credit to the club!

We love to win and to win well but its playing football with a smile that matters ... not many squads could cope with playing a game without the 5 missing players!

tbc ...  i await the match info to write a report but aware that Daniel scored 2 and Gareth 1

Credit to Watton on a great 2nd 1/2

Man of the Match - tbc

DTFC 4 v Swaffham 1

Dereham Town played hosts to local rivals Swaffham, knowing it would be a very competitive match, Dereham started with Kane Fisher in goal, playing behind 2 from Jack Boyce, Tommy Blowers & Gareth Matthews with Captain Emily Woodhouse, Lewis Jarret & Todd Cantwell in midfield with Phil Denton upfront.

The game started at a very high tempo with both teams pushing hard for the opener, both keepers kept very busy. Dereham scored the 1st with Todd heading forwards for Phil to score his 1st, a beautiful left foot after a surging run giving the keeper no chance.

Both teams had a penalty with Todd's well saved and Swaffham's going wide. DTFC went in at 1/2 time 2-0 thanks to Phil's 2nd - popped in after a defensive slip by Swaffham.

The 1st half had seen quality football from both teams, with Dereham's defence strong, with a very creative midfield, some of the passing was a joy to watch!

Swaffham started the 2nd 1/2 strongly, their keeper again in fine form - saving well from Todd early on. Swaffham scored next to make it tight at 2-1. The goal giving Swaffham fresh hope, the visitors pushing hard seeking a second, enjoying an excellent period of possession - the Dereham midfield had to dig deep and the defense had to stand tall & firm.

Dereham continued to play some lovely football forcing their way back into the game, sustained pressure paid off with Swaffham conceding an unfortunte penalty. Tommy, winner of last weeks penalty shoot out took the kick - to give the home side back their 2 goal cushion, taking the training ground to the pitch with a cracking shot into the side netting!

Dereham introduced Liam Sewell & Tom Cockaday , both boys contributing with Todd scoring from a freekick to make DTFC 4 Swaffham 1

Man of the Match Todd Cantwell

Gary's thoughts ...

Well played Kanie - good to have you back, a cracking game!

Well played lad's you worked hard for this one, a strong defensive performance, with Jack, Gareth & Tommy having excellent games! - you have reached new levels ... keep it going !!!

Lewis, Emily & Todd - the 3 of you gave everything - playing some wonderful attacking football but also helping out when needed. Phil ... another 2 - the 1st a cracking goal :) keep it up Phil - our highest scorer with 21.

Liam & Tom also played their part - thank you Boy's

Well done all of you - keep the run going for Gary & Hef next week ... and text me the scores!

DTFC 12 - Dereham Wanderers 0

Dereham Town U10's  entertained Dereham Wanderers on Sunday, starting with Liam Sewell in goal, playing behind Jack Boyce & Lewis Jarrett in defence with Capt Todd Cantwell, Emily Woodhouse and Phil Denton in midfield with Tom Cockaday playing upfront.

Dereham started brightly launching attack after attack kept at bay for the 1st 15 by a hardworking Wanderers defence and an excellent goalkeeper who could do nothing with Derehams 1st scored by Phil, a lovely clinical strike soon followed by 1 each from Tom, Lewis and Todd making it a 4-0 lead at 1/2 time.

Dereham introduced Sam Wilson for Emily who had worked the right mid beautifully for the 1st 1/2. Dereham continued to play some excellent passing football scoring 2 quickly, 1 each from Lewis & Todd.

Phil & Todd dropped to defence, quite possibly the 2 most attacking full backs in the county, with Lewis & Jack playing wide - with the team scoring 6 more to make it a final 12-0 win with goals coming from Todd completing his trick, another from Lewis to make it 4, 2 from Jack and another 1 from Tom.

The entire team played some wonderful football, with the game dominated by excellent attacking passing football - taking the training ground to the pitch - DTFC could have scored many more but for some fine saves by the Wanderers keeper and some sterling work by their defence - both Gary's were very proud of you!

Special mention to Wanderers who never gave up

Man of the Match Todd Cantwell
Hat Trick Hero's Lewis Jarrett 4 Todd Cantwell 3

Gary's thoughts ... i lost count of the moves using 3 touches involving 3,4 & 5 passes - keep it up!

Liam ... whilst you didn't have much to do what you did you did very well!

Jack ... another polished complete performance with 2 well taken goals

Lewis ... back to his best - your best game of the Season - keep it going!

Tom ... 4 goals in 3 games - well done! ... keep it up Tom!

Phil ... in excellent form - great 1st touch and  a new find at left back : )

Emily ... another very good game always working 4 the team ... a real find for the whites!

Todd ... excellent [as always] with some lovely linking play - always working 4 his team

Sam ... had a good game unlucky not to score with a cracking left foot over the bar

as a team you played well, with countless shots at goal some well saved some just missing the target ... keep it up!

Brandon 0 - DTFC 1

Match report to follow but for now well played boys each of you gave 100% 4 60 mins!

Dereham Town FCU10 travelled to Brandon to play a tough hard working side, Dereham went with just one sub and without a number of players, some playing for NCFC, some ill and some injured.

DTFC started with Liam Sewell in goal, playing behind Capt Tricky Hollyoak & Gareth Matthews, with Jack Boyce, Dominic Scarff & Lewis Jarrett playing in midfield with Tom Cockaday upfront.

The 1st half finished 0-0 but this did not reflect an end to end game with each side having chances with Liam performing valiantly for DTFC in goal, as did our defenders Gareth & Tricks, matched by our hardworking midfield trio of Jack, Lewis & Dom with Tom busy upfront getting back to help with a couple of crunching blocks!

The 2nd half began with attack after attack launched by Brandon, the game becoming a battle between Brandon attack and DTFC defence. Daniel Foster was introduced into the game. Dereham's defence was quite simply superb, with Tricks performing heroics with Gareth & Liam, these 3 supported by the ever busy Jack, Lewis & Dominic in midfield with Tom and Daniel making some crucial tackles upfront.

Dereham were now playing a counter game with Lewis and Jack pushing ahead whenever the opportunity presented itself, linking well with either Dom, Tom or Daniel.

The winner was scored by Jack Boyce from distance [beckham style but with a bounce] giving the Brandon keeper no chance, the goal deserving to win a game, causing Brandon to push on even harder - kept at bay only by determined defending.

The game finished 1-0 a fine win for Dereham maintaining their challenge on the top of the table.

Brandon can take a lot of credit for the way in which they played ... always trying to play football!

Everyone of the Dereham Players can be proud of their efforts - this was a very good team performance!

Man of the Match Birthday Boy Tricks  ... but Liam, Jack, Gareth, Lewis, Tom, Dom & Daniel can all claim a share too

Gary's thoughts ... you went with a team of just 8, playing without some regular faces, up against a hard working Brandon Team that had won 4 from 6 ... you worked your socks off deserving the win

I am always proud of you, the Whites have played their hearts out for 2 and a bit seasons, always with a happy face and always as a team whether you have won or lost ... always working always trying always playing football

keep it up!!!

ps a word for our defenders who have worked hard all season ... we used to have a reputation of scoring loads but conceding a few too many ... this season we are still scoring [in fact goals per game up on last year] but we have a much meaner defence ... well done to Kane, Liam, Gareth, Mateo, Nikos, Matti C, Tricks, Tommy B & Jack who together with Gary B [defensive coach] have hugely improved DTFCU10's goals conceded!

It makes a huge difference to the team knowing that our defenders are in such fine form under Gary B's watch!

59 Goals from 14 Players ...

DTFC 7 - Lizards 2

Dereham entertained Wymondham Lizards, last Season's runners up on Saturday with Dereham playing Ant Corder in goal behind 2 from Gareth Matthews, Captain Tommy Blowers, Matt Chapman and Jack Boyce with 4 from Mateo Henman, Todd Cantwell, Phil Denton, Lewis Jarrett and Tom Cockaday across the middle.

Dereham started very quickly with Lewis passing to Todd from the ko - with Todd finding Phil who picked out Lewis who beat the keeper without Lizards touching the ball. What a way to start ...

The 1st half saw some lovely passing football from DTFC with Phil scoring a 2nd to go to 2-0. Lizards are a strong team very defensively secure conceding only 28 last season from 20 games and they began to get into the game scoring their 1st to make it tight.

DTFC introduced Tom with the instruction to push deeper taking defenders with him thus creating space, this policy soon worked with Tom scoring a nice goal, his 2nd from 2 games played!

At 3-1 the goals flowed with Tom finding the tireless Todd who ran the length of the pitch to finish off, Lizards got one back before Gareth scored with a lovely lob to make it 5-2 at half time.

DTFC started the 2nd half mindful of their coaches half time chat to work even harder to shut out what would be a revitalised Lizards and this they did with the Dereham Defence of Matti, Jack, Gareth or Tommy making some great tackles turning defence into attack with telling passes with Ant making a couple of very good saves and tidying up well behind his defence.

The game finished 7-2 after Phil completed his hat trick ... a very good very hard working Team performance against very good opposition

Man of the Match Mateo Henman ... another great game from Mateo

Hat Trick Hero Phil Denton

Gary C's  thoughts to follow ... An excellent 1st 1/2 one to be proud off ...

Ant ... great work a couple of outstanding saves and some very good & quick tidying up!

Mateo, Jack, Tommy, Matti & Gareth ... each of you did some great work, making some excellent tackles, but even better finding your team mates with some great passes - keep it going!

Todd, Phil, Lewis & Tom ... excellent 1st 1/2 with Todd covering every inch of the pitch giving everything to his 'team' with Phil & Lewis putting in some very good work with clinical finishing [check the stats].

Tom doesn't get too much time on the pitch when we have a full squad ... but he showed last season that he can make a valuable difference, scoring in the last few seconds against another Wymondham Team earning his team a draw ... he has played in [just] 2 games this season scoring in both!

We had started with a 'flat' 3 across the middle ... At 2-1 with a revitalised Lizards i switched the shape believing that Lizards would want to push [even] harder ... playing Tom deep meant he had to be covered giving our wide players space to exploit and asking ?'s of Lizards  - it worked with 3 goals in 12 mins!

Changes help as long as each of you know, understand and keep your positions - sometimes we swap wingers sometimes shape ... the win was protected in a 2nd 1/2 shut out winning the 1/2 2-0 after some excellent defending from a very hardworking defensive unit playing to Gary B's system - well done all 6

If we had a lesson to learn it was in the 2nd 1/2 when a team counters we have to get players back to close down the runners ... you won't [often] catch the ball but you can get to a 'shirt' It is a balancing act ... you can't without constant rotation have the front line cover the back line ... but each winger can cover their own runners ... we play a very solid defensive unit with 3 covering our goal keeper ... one of the biggest changes this year is that our defenders have got better at both protecting our goal and in supporting our mid with them in turn looking to pass back when called/under pressure ... this gives the passer space or time to find it!

Enjoy this one ... and good luck next week v Brandon ... i won't be there so listen to Gary B & Hef

Serpents 4 - DTFC 3 ... as written by Caroline

Dereham Town U10's Whites travelled to Wymondham to play the Serpents in which both teams knew would be a close game and a 6 pointer. Dereham could have been 2 goals up very quickly if the left foots of Phil Denton and Lewis Jarrett had been working, but both shots went wide. This was quickly followed by a cracking shot from Tommy Blowers, again going just wide.

Dereham had plenty of possession and played some lovely passing football, most of the game being played in the Serpents half. Mateo Henman and Tommy stood strong in defence, and looked comfortably in control, although Serpents did manage to break through to force Ant Corder into a fantastic save when faced with 3 strikers attacking his goal.

Dereham's first goal came when Phil crossed the ball right across the goal with Emily Woodhouse in exactly the right place to coolly hit the ball into the goal. Jack Boyce and Lewis were having a great game in mid-field, both could have had goals, Lewis going just wide and Jack seeing his shot from the half way line just going over the bar.

At the other end Ant was alert in goal with Tommy helping with a great headed clearance. Dereham countered with Phil having a cracking shot which hit the bar, a goal mouth scramble followed which the Serpents eventually managed to clear. Shortly after Phil finally found the back of the net to make it 0-2. Nikos Hinnis was introduced at the back

However, the Serpents kept trying and made it 1-2. Matti Chapman came on and after having his first shot saved by the keeper he went on to score just after with a well taken strike. Ant produced a great save just at half time, saving the first shot and then the 2nd while still on the floor,  to keep the score at 1-3. Dereham controlled this half and looked in control.

However, football is a funny old game and Serpents started the 2nd half very lively & determined playing the same football that Dereham had played during the 1st 1/2 - forcing Ant to make a great save, cleanly catching the ball when a shot was belted into the top of his goal, under intense Serpents pressure Mateo was kept busy in defence, making a great block just in front of goal.

Dereham found themselves under constant attack and despite a great save from Ant the rebound somehow found the back of the net to make it 2-3. Serpents were spurred on by the goal, and following some very strong tackles on the Dereham boys quickly went on to score another to level the scores.

Dereham looked nervous in front of their own goal, and found themselves defending wave after wave of attack. The Serpent's keeper gambled on a long goal kick straight up to the Dereham goal, which paid off as Dereham found themselves 4-3 behind.

Dereham kept trying to pass the ball, Emily and Phil linking well on several occasions but unable to score. The boys all kept trying right to the end, but Serpents were not going to let the lead slip away and were just too strong, the game finishing 4-3.

Man of match : Ant

Next week we play 'Lizards' another tight game ... at our best we can beat anyone ... we always look to enjoy our wins and to learn from our defeats ... whilst i wasn't there Gary B tells me that you were awesome during the 1st 1/2 ... next week lets try to keep it going for 60 mins :)

4 wins ... 51 goals from 11 players and 16 conceded in 6 games

you have to admire Serpents belief we have won some games by 1/2 time ... remember that in the future should we find ourselves on the back foot at 1/2 time ... and that the game is not won until the final whistle ... your football has come on hugely!!! especially the way that defence links with the mid calling for the pass back enabling the attack to move to space, taking pressure of  the ball staying in control of it and the game

keep playing your football, keeping the attack wide and the defence tight  ... the season is a long journey - we led the league at Christmas last year ... i think this Season could be even tigher than last year!

DTFC 15 - Thetford Indies 3

Dereham Town entertained Thetford on Sunday, the visitors having won their 1st 3 games!

Dereham started with Liam Sewell in goal playing behind 2 from Jack Boyce, Gareth Matthews & Tommy Blowers with 3 from Emily Woodhouse, Lewis Jarrett, Captain Todd Cantwell & Mateo Henman with Phil Denton or Daniel Foster playing upfront

Dereham started brightly with the team working as one unit, using the full width of the pitch, the visitors goalkeeper was busy making some good saves but countless attacks and ceaseless pressure counted with Todd scoring a 1st half hat trick, Phil 2 and 1 each from Daniel & Tommy.

The half finished 7-2 with Dereham committing too many upfront Thetford pulled another back but the Dereham goal machine kicked into action, so far 5 games played, 4 wins, 48 goals from 11 players!

Liam deserved a big 'well done' making his debut in goal producing some fine saves proving excellent cover in goal when Kane or Ant not available

Todd finished with 3, Phil 6, Emily 3 and 1 each from Tommy, Daniel & Lewis - the score finished 15-3.

Man of the Match Todd Cantwell
Hat Trick Heros
Phil Denton 6
Todd Cantwell 3
Emily Woodhouse 3

Another cracking team performance won in the 1st 1/4 with clinical finishing after huge early pressure ... today you competed from the 1st whistle, looking to win every tackle, chase every ball ... next week will need the same - at your best you can live with anyone!

Well done to Daniel with a nice goal, well done Liam - you did good between the sticks! Well done to you all ... you worked hard for this win!

DTFC 22 Northwold 0

Dereham Town U10 Whites played Northwold at home on a warm Wednesday evening, Northwold a new Team to the league playing last Seasons Highest Scorers.

Dereham started with Liam Sewell in goal, with 2 from Gareth Matthews, Tommy Blowers, Jack Boyce & Mateo Henman playing in defence with Emily Woodhouse, Todd Cantwell & Lewis Jarrett in midfield with one from Captain Tom Cockaday or Phil Denton playing upfront.

Dereham were just to strong with Todd & Phil both scoring first half hat tricks with one from Lewis to make it 7-0 at half time!

It would have been easy for Dereham to have lost their shape in a mad dash for goals but they kept playing football with Todd taking his tally to 9, Phil 6 and Lewis 3 with Tom, Tommy, Gareth and Emily all scoring 1 to make it 22-0

Another excellent team performance ... a big confidence booster ahead of Indies

Man of the Match Emily Woodhouse, another cracking game from our new signing
Hat Tricks Todd 9 Phil 6 Lewis 3

DTFC 3 Thetford Bulldogs 8

DTFC entertained Bulldogs, last seasons Champions, at home knowing they were in for a hard game. DTFC introduced Tricks, Screenie & Matti into the team with Ant standing in for Kane at the last moment as Kanie, considered by many as one of the best stoppers in the South Norfolk, had broken his thumb the night before!

Dereham started with Ant Corder in goal, playing behind 3 from Nick Hollyoaks, Jack Boyce, Gareth Matthews & Nikos Hinnis with 3 from Daniel Screen [Captain] Matti Chapman, Lewis Jarrett, Emily Woodhouse & Liam Sewell playing upfront

Bulldogs got off to a flying start scoring 3 inside the 1st 8 to 9 mins ... Dereham normally pretty solid at the back were suffering - it would have been easy for heads to have dropped but these players play with pride and began to force the play with Emily, Screenie, Lewis & Matti working particularly well in midfield ... bringing the home side back into the game - this pressure forcing a corner taken by Jack with an own goal at the end of it [corners hit into the target zone often cause problems :)]

Bulldogs scored 2 more to make it 1:5 at half time ... the team talk was about playing with pride, taking the 1st tackle, keeping calm, look for players in space and support each other hitting passes

The second half was a keenly fought game with end to end football with Bulldogs scoring 3 more but Dereham replying with 2 of their own, Liam scoring his 1st for the club and Screenie finishing well after a good move involving Emily and Lewis. The midfield now matching the play of the Bulldogs ... in fact DTFC could have had a couple of more with just a tad more luck in front of goal ... playing a 1, 4, 1 formation for the last 10 : ) ... perhaps we should have started with it?

Bulldogs deserved this win ... but Dereham pride & sheer hard work stopped them hitting double figures!

It's not fun losing ... last year we played 26 games losing 6 ... but it reminds us that we have much to learn, players, coaches & parents and makes the next win all the more fun.

Take pride in your 2nd half ... you matched bulldogs for 30 mins - but learn from the 1st 10 ... to play a team as secure and strong as bulldogs we have to compete for every ball every tackle from the 1st whistle ... at this age the 1st tackle is the one to make ... win the ball look for a player in space ... if you are marked move looking for space and call for it ... defensive mid is a tough position, our natural inclination is to move up too far ... we can when playing from a position of strength but at times we need to be a tad more cautious ... with 3 secure at the back we can allow the wide mids to push up the pitch ... with them covering the late runners when outnumbered

Let's (try to) win the next one!

in closing i was proud of everyone of you ... you kept trying to play football

Man of the Match Ant Corder ... who kept Bulldogs at bay - often when outnumbered ... well played Ant!

DTFC 5 Watton Wanderers 0

Match report by Carolyn Denton :)

Dereham Town entertained Watton Wanderers on a balmy Wednesday evening, with Kane Fisher in goal playing behind 3 from Jack Boyce, Mateo Henman, Gareth Matthews & Nikos Hinnis with Emily Woodhouse & Todd Cantwell playing in Midfield with one from Phil Denton & Daniel Foster upfront.

Dereham started the game well mounting attack after attack, which continued through the first half, early on Dereham won a corner after excellent possession taken by Todd, Emily's shot was well saved but the rebound was turned in by Phil.

When Watton countered Dereham's defence was solid, not letting Watton get any shots away, with Mateo and Gareth reading the game very well, clearing the ball even when hugely outnumbered.

Phil soon scored his second to make it 2-0. Dereham were now relentless with Todd, Emily & Jack having shots go just wide.

Daniel and Nikos were introduced and slotted in to the game straight away, as half time approached Todd hit the ball first time from a long way out after a great pass from Jack and curled it into the net with an unstoppable goal to lead 3-0.

The 2nd half saw more Dereham changes with players rested, allowing Watton to have more of the game, and they came close to scoring a couple of times, but Kane Fisher was alert and dealt with any shots that made it through after having a quiet first half.

Emily again saw a shot go just wide, and although she didn't score she made an invaluable contribution to the game with her work rate, passing and vision. Daniel was left unmarked and made a great run on goal only to be taken down by a defender right in front of goal. A penalty was awarded which was converted by Todd who coolly smashed it into the back of the net. Shortly after that Todd scored his hat trick when some great passing from Gareth to Emily led to Todd scoring a well taken header to make it 5-0 in the best move of the match.

Nikos had a smashing free kick from a way out, which the Watton keeper bravely parried away and an almighty goal mouth scrambled followed which eventually Watton somehow cleared.

In the closing moments Mateo made a great clearance to ensure Dereham kept a clean sheet.

Man of the match Todd Cantwell

Hat Trick Hero Todd Cantwell

an excellent team performance as always, at our best when using the full width of the pitch as always - attacking in numbers as always  ... but we need to be aware of the counter as always - the scorers, quite rightly, get the headlines but at 1-0 Gareth & Mateo won vital balls when heavily outnumbered [4 v 2] their reading and timing was simply excellent! -

as a team we love to attack to score to use every inch of the pitch ... but 7 a side doesn't mean 5 in the box when 4 will do :)

ps two games played and two contenders for goal of the Season :)

DTFC 3 Bucks 1

Sunday saw Dereham Town FC U10 entertain New Buckingham; Dereham started with Kane Fisher in goal playing behind 2 from Jack Boyce, Gareth Matthews & Tommy Blowers with Captain Emily Woodhouse, Phil Denton  and Mateo Henman playing in midfield with 1 from Matti Chapman, Liam Sewell & Sam Wilson playing upfront.

The 1st half finished 0 - 0 but that does not do justice to what was an open game with Dereham mounting countless attacks kept at bay by the Bucks goalkeeper, who was having an excellent game, Dereham could have had 3 or 4 by half-time with Matti & Phil always a danger playing in front of a hardworking Emily making her debut together with Liam & Sam.

Dereham scored shortly after the break through Mateo, a lovely left foot just inside the area after a very good pass from Matti, Bucks soon equalised - with the game heading into the last 10 minuets Emily scored with what could be the goal of the Season a long range chip that the keeper had no chance with.

Jack Boyce, Dereham's man of the match scored the 3rd to seal the win, every player can be proud of their contribution - a real team performance

This was a very different 'Bucks' side ... they will win games this year!

Man of the match - Jack Boyce; a superb performance, strong & determined in the tackle with some great breaks from Defence and a cracking goal to seal the win

Notes; when we pass [forwards & back to space] as we did today we can live with anyone, when we work as hard [for each other] as we did today we can match anyone - i am very proud of you!

ps; if we go a goal down - don't panic keep playing football! We like to play a very attacking game with the whole team pushing ... but we need to cover against a counter - defensive mid is a new position for us :)

Notes ... i won't repeat these every week but
Kane another excellent game had no chance with the goal ... excellent sweeper keeper knows when to charge out!
Jack growing in stature each game another polished performance - keep it up! Cracking goal!
Gareth as ever strong determined a real ball winner the teams happy smiley face linking well with the team
Mateo another superb game quick to the tackle always brave and what a sweet goal - left foot too
Tommy finished strongly - tough determined quick to the 1st tackle - at their best J & T make for a formidable pair!
Phil teasing down the wing taking on player after player and mostly with an end product - well done Philli keep the work rate going either on the left or upfront
Liam a nice debut and looking a real handfull upfront - enjoy your break!
Sam you waited for your start your patience a credit i hope you enjoyed it!
Matti playing for the Whites for the 1st time played with maturity creating several chances linking well with Em & Phil
Emily a recent signing, worked her socks off for the team, creating chances for herself and others and covering when ever we needed help at the back  ... and what a goal !!! contender for the goal of the Season!

2006/07 SEASON / BLACKS

I have moved the 'Black' Reports to their own page

NB: Last Seasons reports continue further down the page!

DTFC 5 Hillside 2

Dereham Town U10’s Blacks played their first return fixtures of the season on Sunday against Hillside Rovers and Hellesdon. Dereham lined up for their first game against Hillside with Anthony Corder in goal, Nicholas Hollyoak, Gareth Matthews and Matthew Chapman in defence, Reece Pease and Dion Frary in midfield and Daniel Screen up front.

Dereham went straight on the attack and saw early efforts from Reece,Daniel and Dion all go close but it was Hillside who nearly opened the scoring when a deflected shot hit the crossbar.

Anthony saved well as Hillside went on the attack but a great pass by Reece found Daniel who finished well to put Dereham 1-0 up which is how it stayed at half time.

The second half started with Dereham again on the attack and a run from Dion saw him beat the defender before releasing Daniel whose precise finish made it 2-0 to Dereham.

Hillside came back on the attack but Nicholas, Gareth and Matthew were defending well and releasing the midfield players which saw a shot saved from a superb solo run from Reece and a Daniel shot hit the crossbar.

Some great individual play from Matthew saw his shot saved by the keeper but the ball fell to Daniel who made no mistake with his finish to put Dereham 3-0 up and claim his hat trick.

A deflected pass caught out the Dereham defence and Hillside took the chance to make it 3-1, however some brilliant skill by Matthew saw him beat the Hillside defence and slot home for 4-1.

Hillside came back again and a bouncing shot saw them pull it back to 4-2 before some fine skill by Daniel put him clear but his shot was saved and when the loose ball fell to Reece he made no mistake in putting Dereham 5-2 up and that was how it stayed.

DTFC 2 Hellesdon 2

Dereham’s second game against Hellesdon saw them facing a team who had beaten the 7-0 earlier in the season and with no substitutes it was going to be a hard game as they found themselves under heavy early pressure and Anthony had to make several important saves.

Dereham were being forced to attack on the break but good play by Reece and Dion found Daniel whose effort went close and seemed to give Dereham confidence but Hellesdon came back and Anthony had to make another important save.

A good run by Reece forced a corner which was taken by Dion and cleared to reece who saw his effort cleared off the line and the foolow up was also cleared off the line as Dereham pressed.

A good effort from Dion was saved at the expense of a corner which Dion took and found Reece whose well timed volley found the back of the net to give Dereham the 1-0 lead that there efforts deserved.

Hellesdon did come back on the attack but saves by Anthony and great defending by Gareth, Nicholas and Matthew kept them out as Dereham went in at half time a goal up.

Dereham kicked off the second half but Hellesdon were soon on the attack and saves by Anthony and a great headed clearance by Gareth continued to keep them out but the breakthrough finally came for Hellesdon when a swift counter attack and a good finish made it 1-1.

The Dereham heads didn’t drop however and a great run and finish by Reece put his side 2-1 up and nothing more than they deserved, however Hellesdon never gave up either and the dereham defence found itself under some severe pressure and it needed clearances from Dion, Daniel and a great header from Matthew to keep them out but as full time approached a loose ball fell inside the Dereham box and for once a defender couldn’t reach it and Hellesdon got their equaliser 2-2.

This was a cracking game of football played in the best spirit by two commited teams and the Dereham boy’s should be proud of their efforts.

Lakeford 1 v DTFC 1

Dereham Town U10 Blacks travelled to Norwich on Sunday to play Lakeford with Anthony Corder playing in goal behind a defence of Nicholas Hollyoak,Gareth Matthews and Matthew Chapman with Reece Pease and Dion Frary in midfield and Daniel Screen up front.

Lakeford kicked off and went on the attack but an interception by Dion released Reece who carried the ball into the danger area before finding Daniel who made no mistake in giving Dereham an early 1-0 lead.
Gareth was looking strong and assured in the tackle and with Dion also working hard to help out his defenders it needed a good save from Anthony to preserve Dereham's lead as the Lakeford pressure increased.

Reece saw an effort cleared for a corner and Anthony made a good parry which was cleared by Matthew as the game became an end to end affair.

A brave block by Nicholas in front of his own goal prevented a certain Lakeford equaliser and the loose ball was cleared to send Dereham in 1-0 up at half time.

Dereham kicked off the second half but soon found themselves under intense pressure as Lakeford searched for an equaliser and an early shot went just wide.

Daniel was working hard and tackling back to help Matthew, Gareth and Nicholas who were working overtime as Dereham were forced onto the back foot and limited to brief counter attacks through Reece and Dion.

Lakeford continued to push forward and saw a cross skim the bar as they put the Dereham defence under more and more pressure and Anthony had to make several important saves to keep them out, but as full time approached a cross fell inside the Dereham box and this time it eluded everyone and was well finished to put Lakeford level at 1-1.

Dereham tried one final attack but found themselves crowded out as the whistle sounded giving both teams a well deserved point in what had been a very entertaining game.

DTFC 0 v Spixworth 1

Dereham Town U10 Blacks entertained Spixworth and Scole Lads on Sunday and opened with a repeat of last weeks cup game against spixworth with Anthony Corder in goal playing behind Nicholas Hollyoak, Jack Boyce and Matthew Chapman with Reece Pease and Dion Frary in midfield and Daniel Screen upfront.

The game followed a similar pattern to last week with Dereham controlling the majority of the play but they were unable to break Spixworth down and it was the visitors who eventually broke away to open the scoring with a good finish.

Gareth Matthews replaced Matthew and Reece had a good effort saved as Dereham searched for an equaliser and Anthony had to be alert to save under pressure from another Spixworth break.

Samuel Green came on for Daniel as Dereham pushed forward with both Reece and Dion going close before half time.

The second half started with a Spixworth effort clearing the bar and another shot striking the post but with Anthony making some good saves and Gareth, Nicholas and Matthew working hard in defence Dereham tried to get an equaliser which unfortunately eluded them and they were unlucky to lose 1-0.

DTFC 3 v Scole 1

The second game against Scole Lads saw Dereham kick off and go straight on the attack with the pace of Reece causing problems.

The reshaped Dereham defence of Jack,Matthew and Daniel was again holding firm and when Scole did break through Anthony was on hand to make the save with the loose ball being cleared by Reece and Anthony then saving the second effort and as half time approached Samuel went close with a good effort but the half remained goaless.

Dion,Gareth and Nicholas came on for the second half and some good work by Gareth at the back found Daniel who moved the ball on to Dion who released Reece to run on and finish well to give Dereham a 1-0 lead.

Daniel then had a good shot blocked and in the next attack his flick header put Reece clear and he made no mistake in putting Dereham 2-0 up with another fine finish.
More good play by Daniel set up Reece again but his effort was saved by the Scole keeper as Dereham looked to increase their lead which they did when Reece was fouled and Dion's well struck free kick eluded everyone to find the back of the net for Dereham's 3rd

Samuel came on for Reece who was unlucky not to get his hat trick and the Dereham defence was eventually breached by a Scole break to make it 3-1.

With full time approaching Samuel was unlucky not to put Dereham further ahead when his snap shot hit the post and the game ended with a well earned 3-1 victory for Dereham.

DTFC v Spixworth a Cup Game - DTFC win on Penalties

Dereham Town Under 10 Black's entertained Spixworth in the Cup on Sunday and started with Anthony Corder in goal playing behind Nicholas Hollyoak, Gareth Matthews and Matthew Chapman with Reece Pease and Dion Frary in midfield and Daniel Screen up front.

With Nicholas, Gareth and Matthew covering well at the back Dion and Reece started to get a grip of the midfield with their pace and movement causing problems for the Spixworth defence and they were able to release Daniel who was close with a couple of efforts as was Reece, however despite controlling the game Dereham were unable to find the breakthrough their play deserved and the half finished goalless.

The second half saw an early chance for Dereham go just wide and Anthony had to be out quickly to save from an attack which gave Spixworth a corner from which they took a 1-0 lead.

This was a cruel blow to Dereham and they soon got back into their passing game and took the game back to Spixworth with Reece, Daniel, Matthew and Dion all going close from some fine play.

Anthony made a good save from a free kick as Dereham kept up the pressure forcing a couple of corners which were taken by Dion and from the second one Reece finished well to pull his team level at 1-1 and force extra time.

Spixworth kicked off the first period and Anthony had to make a brave save from an early corner. The pace of Reece was still causing problems and when he was fouled Dion was unlucky to see his well struck free kick hit the crossbar and go over with the keeper well beaten but the half remained deadlocked.

The second half saw more great defending by Gareth, Matthew and Nicholas as the game opened up and Reece, Dion and Daniel were unlucky with chances to score and Anthony was called upon to keep out another dangerous corner as the full time whistle blew sending the game into a penalty shootout.

Spixworth's keeper took the first kick and scored to put them1-0 up and Daniel was then unlucky to see his well struck effort saved. Anthony duly saved the next Spixworth kick to put his team back in it and Reece stepped up to convert for Dereham and level things 1-1. Anthony then produced another good save to deny Spixworth and Dion struck his penalty well to give Dereham a 2-1 lead. Spixworth scored their next kick to level things at 2-2 and Nicholas then scored his kick to give Dereham the lead again at 3-2. Spixworth then scored their final spot kick and it fell to Anthony to take Dereham's final kick with the scores level at three penalties each.

The Dereham keeper kept his cool and converted his kick to give Dereham a 4-3 victory on penalties and secure them a deserved place in the next round.

Bressingham 1 DTFC 1

Dereham Town U10 Black's travelled to Rocklands on Sunday for games against Bressingham and the hosts. Dereham started the first game against Bressingham with Anthony Corder in goal behind Nicholas Hollyoak, Tommy Blowers and Matthew Chapman with Dion Frary, Daniel Screen and Reece Pease covering midfield and attack and they found themselves under intense early pressure with Anthony called upon to make several important saves.

Dereham were having to play on the break and a determined run and shot from Dion was cleared for a corner which seemed to inspire Dereham to get their passing game going and this saw some great play between Daniel and Dion who released Reece and his sweetly struck shot gave Dereham a 1-0 lead.

Both sides had chances but when Dereham didn't manage to clear the ball at the back a scramble ensued which saw Bressingham get an equaliser 1-1.

Reece was close on two further occasions and the sides went in at half time all square.
The second half saw Samuel Green come on for Daniel and Anthony was again forced into a good early save as Dereham were again forced to counter attack with Nicholas, Tommy and Matthew holding things together at the back.

Samuel was close when his snap shot was blocked and with Reece, Dion and Daniel battling away in midfield Dereham got themselves a well earned point 1-1.

Rocklands 2 DTFC 3

Dereham's second game against Rocklands saw them make a positive start as a good early run and shot by Reece was saved by the keeper for a corner and the resulting kick from Dion fell nicely to Tommy whose well struck shot went close.

It was a confident start that got it's reward when a quick break from Dion saw him finish well to put Dereham 1-0 up. A quality pass from Matthew released Reece whose cross found Daniel whose effort was saved.

Dereham had their tails up and more great work from Matthew saw him find Daniel who made no mistake with his finish to give his side a 2-0 lead.

The defence of Nicholas, Tommy and Matthew were providing good cover for Anthony and with the busy Dion and Daniel in midfield able to release Reece on dangerous attacks Dereham were unucky not to go further ahead before half time.
Samuel replaced the hard working Dion for the second half as Rocklands tried to get themselves back into the game with a shot that sailed just wide of Anthony's goal.
A swift Dereham break saw the ball squared to Samuel whose well struck first time shot just flashed past the post. Reece was continuing to cause problems with his pace and he was close on several occasions but he got his reward when a superb solo run saw him out pace the Rocklands defence and his cool finish gave Dereham a deserved 3-0 lead.

However Rocklands never gave up and as tiredness from Dereham's first game set in they pulled back two late headed goals but as time ran out Dereham got a well deserved win that was down to a superb team effort.

Attleborough 2 DTFC 1

Dereham Town u10 blacks travelled to Mulbarton to play Attleborough and the hosts. Dereham opened against Attleborough with Anthony Corder in goal, playing behind Matthew Chapman and Tommy Blowers with Reece Pease, Dion Frary and Daniel Screen in midfield, and Samuel Green up front. Dereham were making all the running with the pace of Dion, Daniel and Reece causing problems as they took control.
However football is a cruel game and despite all their pressure they went in a goal down at half time, with Attleborough scoring from their only attack of the first half.

Dominic Scarff came on for the second half as Dereham continued on the attack forcing several corners, however a determined run through the Dereham defence saw Attleborough go 2-0 up via the post. Anthony had to be quick off his line to clear the danger when one on one with an attacker but Derehams relentless pressure paid off when Dion pulled a goal back with a well struck shot.

Despite going close on several occasions they couldn't find another goal and were unlucky to lose 2-1.

Mulbarton 1 DTFC 2

In their next game against Mulbarton the Dereham team continued their good form with their passing and movement causing panic in the home defence which resulted in Reece giving Dereham an early lead. With the defence of Anthony, Matthew and Tommy looking solid they pushed forward with Reece, Dion, Daniel and the busy Samuel all going close.

The second half started with more Dereham attacks and with Dominic coming on to contest the midfield, they got their reward when a fierce shot by Reece found the back of the net to give them a 2-0 lead. Anthony was out quick to save at the feet of a forward and backed up by his defence kept a well worked Mulbarton free kick out. The Dereham team were working well as a unit however a swift Mulbarton break saw them pull a goal back to set up a tense finish. The home side had their tails up and it took an excellent save by Anthony to deny them an equaliser right on the stroke of full time and give Dereham a deserved 1-2 victory.

Well done boys! ... keep it going!

DTFC 2 Hillside 2

Dereham Town U10's Blacks kicked off their new season with home games against Hillside Rovers and Hellesdon. Hillside kicked off the first game forcing Anthony Corder in the Dereham goal into an early save.

Good passing between Reece Pease, Daniel Screen and Dion Frary saw a good effort by Matthew Chapman just clear the top of the goal as Dereham pushed forward.

Nicholas Hollyoak was defending well at the back for Dereham and they were unlucky to fall a goal behind when a corner kick deflected in off a Hillside forward who knew nothing about it but saw his team take a 1-0 lead.

Dominic Scarff replaced Daniel as Dereham searched for the equaliser and pressure from Samuel Green, Reece and Dion saw them force three succesive corners with Matthew and Dominic both going close.

A save and clearance from Anthony was picked up by Reece who outpaced the defender before picking his spot to equalise for Dereham as half time approached.

A swift Hillside move just after half time saw them take a 2-1 lead and Daniel saw a well hit shot hit the bar as Dereham pushed forward again.
The pace of Reece was causing Hillside problems and a fine run and cool finish saw him earn Dereham a deserved equaliser to make it 2-2.

Dereham now looked the most likely to score again but a good save from the keeper denied Reece his hat trick but he had already earned his team a well deserved point.

DTFC 0 Hellesdon 7

The second game against last seasons champions Hellesdon was a much harder affair as the visitors took an early lead despite a fine parry by Anthony.
Another swift Hellesdon attack saw them take a 2-0 lead but it was Dereham who then went close with the keeper making two good saves from Daniel which could have changed the game.

However it was Hellesdon who scored next when a shot was pushed onto the post by Anthony only to fall to an incoming player to make it 3-0.
The scoreline did not reflect the effort of the Dereham lads and they were unlucky to concede again before half time to go in 4-0 down.

Dereham kicked off the second half and went close again through efforts from Daniel and Reece but as the effort of their first game and the first half took it's toll the Dereham team began to tire and they conceded three further goal to see Hellesdon run out with a 7-0 victory.

WATTON JUNE COMP

I am told that everyone that attended had a very good day and appreciated the Invitation to play, as you know i was 'away' but stayed in touch thanks to numerous texts and a rather long call to Nathan!

The Blacks, last years Runners Up, had a good day having 'borrowed' Phil & Tommy from the Whites playing 4 unbeaten winning 1 and drawing 3 finishing 3rd!

The Whites playing without 'subs' played 4 winning 2 drawing 1 and losing 1 to the Winners Bulldogs. The Whites finished 2nd.

Well done to both teams, i have posted a pic under comps.

Thanks to Hef and Gary B for looking after the Whites in my absence, i know Hef thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

DTFC MAY COMP

At least the weather was kind enough  ... it was good to see so many of our friends there, the boys from Bucks (winning their 1st game this season - well done!) Serpents (a shame we didn't get to play them) Brandon & Bulldogs.

It was also very pleasing to see the 'boys' from 3 squads supporting each other spread across 2 pitches.

DTFC had 3 teams in the competition with the Blacks playing in a tough group, but Nath tells me that the boys had some very good games, with excellent possession and lot's of chances with each boy playing some good football, what a double save from Ant - quality!

The Stripes managed by Sean & Gary B had a very good day, finishing 3rd in their group, missing a semi final place by one game! To be fair the Whites v the Stripes was our hardest game of the day! and what a goal from Nikos :)

Nath and i always believed that this combination of black & white would do well and Matti, Jack, Tommy, Daniel, Alex, Nikos and Dom proved us right!

The Whites played some beautiful football through the league qualification guaranteeing a semi final spot with one game left ... played 5 won 4 drawn 1 with a shed load of goals scored (15) and only 2 conceded. Each of the boys played some wonderful football.

The Whites knew that to compete with the highly motivated Bulldogs [League Winners, playing together 3 years] this mostly U8 team (4 from the starting 5) would have to pass and work for each other. This they did, the Whites dominated the 1st half playing superb football to go in at 0-0 but having the better chances.

They continued matching Bulldogs in the 2nd 1/2 to go into extra time at 0-0. It always felt as if the 1st goal would decide the match, very much against the run of play Bulldogs scored with the Whites thinking they had won a throw ... a decision that broke our (footballing) hearts - Bulldogs went on to win.

Rocklands won the final in extra time, with Bulldogs runners up and DTFCW in joint 3rd!

Losing a semi final is not fun ... but all 3 DTFC teams can take pride in their efforts! It is i think just a matter of time before this squad wins something - the Blacks, with the Whites go to Watton next where the Blacks finished as last years runners up. Good Luck to both Teams!

Plate Final / 2005/06 Review

A game well played by both teams, in awful conditions, Serpents were deserved winners, but Dereham have much to be proud off - my team plays with passion always looking to play football, much like our opponents and like them they play together. If we had to 'not' win i am delighted it went to Serpents, a team [players, parents & managers] we enjoy playing against.

For now [ my boys] remember how good it felt to reach your 1st final, I doubt it will be your last!  Be proud of 2005/06 your 1st season together, you have much to smile about, each of you has come a long way!

1st year review ... we have had an excellent 1st season together, playing in the South Norfolk, making many new friends along the way. We have had some cracking games, too many to mention but our games against Serpents and Bulldogs were quite special when everything worked on and off the pitch and of course our last game a 5-2 win over Lizards, especially pleasing after the football lesson they gave us in the 1st game, a game we learnt from [big time]!

I have enjoyed watching every one of mine develop and improve and have come to admire the progress made by Litcham under Nicks care and the resilience of Bucks ... i hope next year they go out and win a few! As to other coaches ... i take my 'hat' off to you - you have to do this to know what we do ... thank you for entertaining us and we look forward to having you back soon! We do it for the kids - they do it because its fun and they love playing football!

Every team runs with huge help and support ... i have been lucky to have Gary B and Hef the ref on board and a bunch of the best touchline supporters in the league.

The year has gone so quick, being a coach is a roller coaster, highs and the odd low ...  already we look forward to next season hoping that each game can be fun for the kids, watched by happy understanding supporters, each team being coached with support, respect and joy and of course not forgetting the most important 'man'on the pitch once the whistle has gone - the ref - we haven't always agreed with every decision made but have tried to remember that it has been! I have said it before 'a ref can make or break a game at this level. I have been very fortunate to have 2 excellent ref's in Hef the Ref and Simon!

And, lastly, a big thank you to Alan and the league!

MATCH REPORT

Reporter; Dave Corder

Dereham Town Under 9's White Squad travelled to Watton on Sunday for the South Norfolk Youth League Plate Cup Final against Silfield Serpents.

The match started in very wet conditions with Kane Fisher in goal for Dereham assisted by Gareth Matthews and Daniel Screen, Todd Cantwell, Lewis Jarrett and Reece Pease with Tom Cockaday,Tommy Blowers and Jack Boyce on the bench.

Dereham were trying to play the passing game; that had seen them reach the final scoring 20 goals in 3 games. Reece, Todd, Lewis and Daniel were surging forward in difficult conditions backed up by Tom from the bench but Silfield were looking very solid at the back, with the goalkeeper having an excellent game!

The first 10 mins were mostly spent in Serpents half, the Dereham boys pushing and probing for a lead, with Serpents coming into the game towards half time. Rotations followed with Daniel coming on in the middle and Tom upfront.

Gareth was defending well as were Jack and Tommy when they were introduced and they went in at half time with the score 0-0.

The second half saw Dereham again trying to take the game to Silfield with Tom introduced up front and Todd's corner kicks causing trouble for their defence.

Silfield took the lead when a well struck loose ball hit the post before finding the back of the net. Dereham heads did not drop as Reece, Todd and Lewis saw good efforts go narrowly wide or saved by the Silfield keeper.

The game became an end to end affair but it was Silfield who struck next to take a two goal lead.

The last 10 mins were all Dereham, with Todd & Reece combining well with Lewis, with the boys trying hard to find a goal that would at least give them hope.

The game finished 2-0 - Serpents were deserved winners but the Dereham boys can take pride in an excellent run and a super season.

Dereham Town FC U9 v Watton Wanderers
South Norfolk Plate Cup Semi Final

Dereham Town FC U9's entertained Watton Wanderers on Thurday evening in the semi final of the South Norfolk Plate Cup, having beaten Brandon and Litcham along the way. Watton had beaten a very strong Swaffham in their 1/4 final so Dereham knew they had a match on!

Dereham started with Captain Ant Corder in goal, playing behind 2 from Nick 'Tricky' Hollyoak, Gareth Matthews and Nikos Hinnis, with 3 from Todd Cantwell, Mateo Henman, Lewis Jarrett, Reece Pease and Daniel Foster playing in mid field.

The 1st half was tense with Dereham playing some lovely football using the full width of the pitch with Todd scoring first. Watton were quick on the counter soon levelling with Reece scoring a cracking goal to go 2-1. The Watton Goalkeeper was having an outstanding half denying Dereham on several occasions ... he would become my Watton man of the match.

The Dereham boys had played a superb gutsy 1st half - with Ant making several crucial saves, supported by a magnificent defence with great games from Nick, Gareth & Nikos, always ready to take the 1st tackle, to win the 50:50 ball and to link with the boys upfront. Todd and Reece playing on the wings were simply excellent with Mateo or Lewis playing in the middle - both boys worked their socks off making some great tackles and linking well with the runners. The boys were rotated throughout the game to both keep them fresh and to ask ?'s of Watton with Daniel introduced up front changing the team formation playing well to create a couple of chances.

The 2nd half was all about the goal scoring machine that this team can be, the only team to have beaten both the league winners Bulldogs and the runners up Lizards.

Dereham passed the ball effortlessly on the break involving Todd, Reece and Lewis with Lewis scoring, then Reece got 2 with Todd making it 6-1 before Reece scored 2 more, Daniel almost made it 9-1 with a great far post run.

Every one of the boys can be proud of their part in this run, the Dereham squad numbers 14 and only 9 can be called for each game, some of the boys knew they would not be playing in the final - but this team works for each other, each of them has played their part in this wonderful cup run.

Credit should go to Watton who always tried to play football and worked to the final whistle.

The final to be played at Watton on May 7th.

Man of the match Todd Cantwell
Hat trick Hero Reece Pease 5

Ant playing in his 1st game in the run due to holiday was simply excellent a very assured & mature performance
Tricks has played in 2 games the 1st and 3rd and has become a very acomplished defender, calm, assured and solid as a rock
Gareth gets better every game tough tackling and always keen to win the 1st tackle and to find a telling pass
Nikos looks better every game in his new position - keep it up Nik!
Mateo almost man of the match at Brandon had another very good game, with next year going to 7 a side i hope that we get the chance to play him in front of the back 2 ... an excllent player
Daniel has huge potential, twisting and turning unlucky not to have scored - keep it up Daniel
Lewis wins balls he has no right too always amongst the hardest working players on the pitch and another great goal
Todd what can you say about this game, another polished tormenting performance - a joy to watch
Reece a lesson in clinical finishing 5 goals - like Todd a hugely creative performance on the wing ...

i wouldn't want to be a defender facing Todd, Lewis, Mateo, Daniel & Reece at your best when working together / 5 of the goals had multiple passes/touches ... or for that matter a forward facing Tricks, Nikos or Gareth ... and after that you have Ant between the sticks !!!

This was a team performance, excellent in defence mid field and attack ... Gary B, Hef, your families and I are very proud of you! To those of you not playing in the final - I would like to say ...

"Thank you for the part you have played - we wouldn't have had a chance without you. Those who had to wait [playing in the 2nd and 4th games] knew there was a chance they might not have got a game but for you'."

DTFCU9 v Litcham Sth Nfk Plate 1/4 Final

Dereham U9 Whites entertained Litcham in the 1/4 final of the South Norfolk Plate Cup having beaten Brandon in the previous round. Litcham are one of the most improved teams in the league having won 3 of their last 4 games - including wins against Serpents & DTFC!

Dereham started with Kane Fisher in goal, with Gareth Matthews & Jack Boyce in defence, with Lewis Jarrett, Reece Pease & Daniel Screen up front. The home team started the brighter with Lewis scoring after some good work with Daniel & Reece, Dereham were playing the football but having to cover a big talented forward always hovering - waiting for the chance to collect a long ball which he did to level the scores - Dereham started rotating the boys introducing Todd Cantwell, Nikos Hinnis & Tom Cockaday. Todd scored his 1st before 1/2 time to give Dereham a 2-1 lead.

The game was tense, with a semi final place to play for, Litcham big, determined were playing counter football whilst Dereham took the game to them, using the full width of the pitch. Todd scored soon after the start a lovely dribbling run that the defence and keeper had no chance with, soon followed by his 3rd!

Dereham were now playing their game, defence working together linking well with the Midfield and Forwards with the ball played through the middle and out to the wings each element working well.

Reece made it 5-1 with a superb headed goal after a Todd Corner found him at the near post. Litcham to their credit kept going scoring to make it 5-2. Litcham were awarded a penalty that would have had the watching supporters [biggest crowd of the season - we might have to play the next one at Aldiss Park] checking their watches but Kane made a marvellous save to keep Dereham's lead soon increased by Tom after a lovely run into the box from just inside Litcham's 1/2.

Litcham scored one more to make it Dereham 6 Litcham 3. Both teams can be proud of their performance.

Man of the match Todd Cantwell - a joy to watch
Hat Trick Hero Todd Cantwell
Most valuable player Kane, Jack, Gareth, Nikos, Lewis, Daniel, Reece, Todd & Tom

Kanie ... another great game a wonderful shot stopper and what a penalty save!
Nikos ... well done, you make for an excellent defender another very good game, strong determined taking the 1st tackle
Gareth ... as ever polished, poised - strong and determined / should bode well for defensive midfield next year
Jack ... another good game, with some excellent kicking and a couple of goal saving tackles
Lewis ... excellent, hard working with a lovely 1st goal - keep the run going!
Reece ... great goal, hard working with some lovely passing and a couple of goal saving chase backs finishing with crunching tackles
Tom ... our defender turned forward another great goal 2 in 3 - keep it going!
Daniel ... had another excellent game in the middle - you just know that he is going to cover the hole
Todd ... another hat trick and another team performance - always looking to bring the runners into play - excellent!

Notes ... Great Football, we always want to play our game ... Litcham were good and the defence had to work hard to help us achieve this win helped by some great tracking back from Todd, Reece, Lewis & Daniel.

A couple of times we stood of them, giving them space & time - with mini soccer the best defence is the 1st tackle - with a loose ball get a Dereham player to it applying pressure and cover - that said i am proud of you all ... you deserved this win and the chance to play for a place in the final!

Lizards v DTFCU9 - last league game of the Season

Dereham Town U9 travelled to Silfield, to play 2nd placed Lizards, in the last league game of the season. Lizards are an excellent team - that only one team had managed to beat in the previous 19 games!

Dereham started with Ant Corder in goal, playing behind Jack Boyce & Nick Hollyoak with Reece Pease, Daniel Screen and Todd Cantwell upfront.

The game was played at a furious pace, but with some lovely football played through the middle and down the wings - end to end stuff by both teams. Dereham scored first through Todd, with the half finishing 1-1 after Lizards equalised with a well taken goal.

The first half had been a tight game, both teams quick to the ball, breaks covered - you could almost feel the teams testing each other out. Dereham had kept the subs rolling introducing Gareth Matthews & Lewis Jarrett, with rotations every 10/12 mins - it kept the Dereham Team fresh.

The second half was a joy to watch, with both teams playing very well, with Ant pulling of a couple of super saves to keep Lizards at bay.  Dereham started to play some wonderful attacking football with each boy involved in the play. The Defence linking well with the front line, Lewis & Todd keeping the play wide stretching the game with Reece or Daniel doing a super job in the middle.

The game was becoming more open, with Dereham using all the pitch, sustained pressure paid off with Lewis bravely scoring a wonderful goal from the edge of the box. More pressure followed, with Dereham mounting attack after attack with Todd scoring 2 more, both excellently taken goals, to complete his hat trick, soon followed by Lewis and Daniel combining to score Dereham's 5th closing the game out!

Lizards kept working and playing football scoring a deserved 2nd to finish 5-2.

Ant, Jack, Gareth & Nick were quite superb at the back, their defending matching the sublime passing and finishing at the other end.

Every boy can be proud of their contribution! Ant was superb, we are lucky to have 2 such excellent keepers in the squad. The defence were magnificent, brave, strong and determined. The front line must have been exhausted as Lizards were very quick on the counter, some of the foward passing between Todd, Lewis, Daniel and Reece was simply quite wonderful to watch!

Games can hinge on a moment, Dereham when 2-1 up had to defend in numbers to keep Lizards at bay - in our code we remind parents that sometimes its the tackle that wins the game!

We have enjoyed some wonderful games this year, this is how the game should be played, competitive but always with a wonderful spirit on and off the pitch! Both teams and supporters were a credit to the game that we love!

Man of the Match - Ant Corder, excellent goal keeping
Hat Trick Hero - Todd Cantwell
Well done to the ref too !!! always in charge without getting in the way - its how we like to ref too

DTFCU9W v Silfield Dragons

An excellent game of football, that both teams can take pride in ... finishing in a 1:1 draw.

Each of the Dereham Players can take pride in their performance as too can the Dragon players - who played their part in a mostly excellent game

Football is about many things - including yes ... passion  - sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't ....

I believe that U9 Football is about learning to play football in a safe, rewarding and enjoyable environment - free from pressure, negativity & criticism ... our attitude to football is detailed within our code of conduct that every player, parent and coach signs / extracts copied within the site.

Match Report

Dereham Town Whites entertained Silfield Dragons on Sunday, the Dereham Team having played Brandon the day before.

The game was played at a fast pace with Kane Fisher in goal, playing behind Jack Boyce and Gareth Matthews with Todd Cantwell and Lewis Jarrett in the middle with Tom Cockaday upfront.

Mateo Henman was introduced as was Nikos Hinnis - every boy played their part. The game finished 1:1 which is not a fair reflection on what was an exciting end to end game - where both teams played with great spirit, with both teams deserving a well done at the finish!

In every match there are moments to remember and moments to forget - the moment i recall is Todd's excellent corner met by Tom's right foot - his 1st league goal ... a moment of joy shared by the team and the Dereham Supporters.

Tom scored a cracking goal ... i try not to be Dad on the pitch / but i think i was for a few seconds
Man of the Match Todd Cantwell - a joy to watch

I love working with my players, i love their attitude their honesty their passion and their football! We have made many friends this season with the way we play on and off the pitch.

For what it's worth boys listen to me, your parents and each other - you have had an excellent season ... keep it going!!!

Kane had another great game in goal denying Dragons on all but one shot that he had no chance with
Jack, Gareth & Nikos all had excellent games at the back with Nikos again showing good form
Lewis - where does he get the energy - has covered every blade on 2 pitches in 2 days
Todd, 7 man of the matches from 19 games, with 32 goals - let's his football do the talking
Mateo gets better every time he plays ... you wouldn't know this team fielded 3 U8's!
Tom what a goal ... and i saw this one

Brandon v DTFCU9W - Sth Nfk Plate Cup 1st round

Dereham travelled to Brandon to play a double header; both league and cup. Dereham started with Captain Kane Fisher in goal, playing behind Nick Hollyoaks and Jack Boyce with Lewis Jarrett, Daniel Screen and Todd Cantwell across the middle.

Dereham opened the scoring through Lewis, the half time score not reflecting a competitive attacking game. Dereham scored a second but the player to his credit told the ref "it came of my hand" - what a shame such honesty is driven out of the game.

Dereham introduced Mateo Henman & Gareth Matthews and scored soon after the start to go 2-0 after a lovely move finished by Todd with Brandon scoring soon after to keep the game tight! Lewis got his 2nd with Brandon countering to go 3-2. Daniel Foster was introduced and he went close a couple of times with long range shots.

Brandon went close a couple of times but Dereham's passing game led to 3 further goals for Todd to make it 6-2.

The entire team played a great game, Brandon deserve a well done for the way they played - always trying to play football.

Kane had another great game
Tricky played with both strength and flair at the back
Jack had another good game at the back looking dangerous on the break
Gareth like Jack had another sound game at the back with some nice passing when breaking
Daniel Screen played his best game yet for the Whites always up for it ...
Mateo another excellent game he just gets better!
Daniel Foster came close a couple of times - keep it going
Lewis Jarrett trying to cover every inch with 2 excellent goals
Todd played another superb game linking very well with Lewis, Daniel & Mateo

Lessons, when stretched at the front we need the midfield to recover  a tad quicker to help out the defence who could be outnumbered - let the defence move to the ball with those tracking back taking the runners. When breaking as we do in numbers find space [keep your width] and shout for the pass. When facing an attack in numbers take the tackle ... that said another quite wonderful game boys - you are at your best when you play together ...

Man of the match Daniel Screen
Hat Trick Hero Todd Cantwell 4

DTFCU9W v Watton Wanderers

Dereham Town FC U9 Whites entertained Watton Wanderers in the local derby game. Dereham started with Gareth Matthews making his debut in goal, playing behind Jack Boyce & Nikos Hinnis with Lewis Jarrett and Todd Cantwell playing in the middle with Daniel Foster upfront

Both sides started well playing attacking football, with Dereham applying the early pressure but going a goal down against the run of play. Daniel soon making way due to injury replaced by Tommy Blowers, Dereham were now down to just 6 players but soon levelled the game through Todd only for Watton to take a 1/2 time lead at 1:2.

Dereham started the 2nd 1/2 with Nikos moving to midfield and Jack taking over at right back - the changes worked with the home side stronger both defensively and in mid field. Dereham equalised through Todd but then fell behind again soon after - it began to feel like one of those games.

Dereham began to push with Todd & Lewis having excellent games supported by Nikos playing his best game yet but secure at the back with Tommy & Jack having cracking games with Gareth making for a superb sweeper/keeper.

Todd completed his hat trick to once again level the game ... Dereham worked harder playing excellent attacking football though now very tired they scored 3 more through Todd to finish 6:3 - it could have been more but for some excellent stops from the watton keeper denying Lewis a couple of deserved goals.

Watton played their part in an excellent game of football, this game compared to the Bulldogs & Serpents games, fast, competitive without getting nasty and great fun.

Every boy was excellent each deserving Man of The match which went to the hard working Tommy Blowers
Hat Trick Hero [twice over] Todd Cantwell 6

This was an excellent result from a team that worked hard, played hard and believed always that they could get a result.

Gareth quite excellent between the sticks although i'm sure looking forward to seeing Kanie back playing behind you - but you have proved superb cover for when needed
Jack & Tommy played their hearts out in defence and always looking for the 1st tackle and the 50:50 ball turning defence into attack
Nikos played his part with great attitude and with his best game to-date
Daniel looked comfortable upfront - a great shame he had to leave the pitch so early
Lewis never stops running for this team his last 40 mins were simply quite excellent deserving off a goal
Todd always busy always attacking but ready to cover and looking to bring his team mates into the play - it was a sensational 2nd 1/2 - the keeper saved what would have been my goal of the season
This ranks amongst our top 3 games this season - well done

We need to win 1 from 3 to secure 3rd lets try for all 3

Update; we have secured 3rd and from one of the best all round team performances of the season

Litcham v DTFC U9W

Dereham Under Nines travelled to Litcham - a game that they would have hoped to win, but football is not about history nor stats.

Dereham started with just 6 players with 3 of the squad missing. Ant Corder in goal with Tommy Blowers and Gareth Matthews in defence behind Lewis Jarrett and Todd Cantwell in midfield with Tom Cockaday playing upfront.

Litcham scored an early goal which seemed to wake Dereham up who replied quickly through a cracking solo effort from Todd. The play was end to end without much football played in the middle in part due to the very small pitch.

Nikos Hinnis was introduced upfront for the second half. Litcham scored again with Dereham soon levelling through Lewis Jarrett  - this set the pattern with some fine last ditch defending at both ends with Ant, Gareth and Tommy having to work hard. Litcham scored a 3rd matched by another Lewis goal to briefly level before Litcham scored the winner.

Todd came close on several occasions following some great work with Lewis ...the Dereham boys worked hard, always competing, the game played in an excellent spirit with Litcham deserving their moment in the sun.

Note for Dereham ... we have to adapt to small pitches - without space to stretch and pass - we have to work tighter and harder - that said well done you fought for every ball and once the whistle had gone you showed your class!

Man of the match Ant Corder - some excellent goal keeping

Dereham Town FC U9W v Swaffham Colts

Dereham Town U9 Whites entertained Swaffham Colts in a friendly on Sunday, the game was played in an excellent spirit with Kane Fisher in goal, Jack Boyce and Gareth Matthews in defence with Phil Denton and Lewis Jarrett in midfield and Nikos Hinnis upfront.

The early pressure was all Dereham with Nikos especially busy upfront - Dereham took the lead with an own goal after several shots were saved or cleared. Phil was in fine form on the left making several great runs one of which resulted in Derehams second - a clinical strike into the far corner that gave the keeper no chance.

Lewis scored after some excellent passing. Dereham introduced Tom Cockaday and Daniel Foster, it didn't take Tom long to score his 1st goal of the season a cracking right foot [apparently].

The half finished Dereham 4 Swaffham 0.

With Phil off injured the game changed with Swaffham quick of the break - Swaffham scored 3 to make it Dereham 4 Swaffham 3.

It took some fine defending from Kane, Jack & Gareth to keep Dereham in the game, with Lewis, Tom, Nikos & Daniel all contributing well to a very good team performance

An excellent game

Kane played a very good game converting to an excellent sweeper when needed
Gareth & Jack made a solid pair at the back taking the 1st tackle - well done both
Lewis never stops working never stops trying always working for his team - great goal
Philli not on the pitch for long but showed in the time available class and clinical finishing - another great goal
Nikos - his best game so far, always looking and thinking staying involved - well done Nik
Tom & Daniel played very well upfront teasing the defence trying to take players on
Well done Tom on your 1st goal of the season ...all we need is to be 3 up with a Penalty for Kane to try - every outfield player has now scored

Sunday Feb 12th Thetford Bulldog's v DTFC

Sunday saw Dereham U9 Whites travel to play Thetford Bulldogs in a game that could decide the runners up spot. Dereham travelled with no subs thanks to the various bugs - with boys dropping out as late as the night before.

Dereham, started,  playing with Kane Fisher in goal, Jack Boyce and Tommy Blowers in defence, Gareth Matthews in the middle with Todd Cantwell and Phil Denton playing upfront.

Dereham had beaten Bulldogs 6-4 in the earlier game but knew it would be tough as the Thetford side are very secure defensively and would give Dereham no time on the ball. The 1st half finished 1-0 thanks to an unfortunate own goal that gave Dereham no chance.

The Dereham boys battled hard, never letting tired legs or their heads drop. Each of them deserved a 'well done' at the finish especially Gareth playing recovering from an illness & Todd always busy always competitive always looking to create something for his team.

This was a hard game for Dereham, mostly defending, always under pressure from a well organised Thetford. Tommy, Jack & Gareth with Todd's help were mostly camped in their own half doing well to keep Thetford at bay. When breaking Dereham were countering with fewer numbers up front than usual. Phil did well when receiving a ball, causing Thetford problems, with both he and Todd coming close on a few occaisions, but they were usually outnumbered.

Dereham are at their best when taking the game to the opponents.

Dereham rotated Gareth, Jack and Tommy with each taking their turn in the middle. Kane was having a superb game in goal keeping the scorline respectable but had no chance with the bull's second. Dereham clawed one back through Phil Denton to finish 2-1.

A season is a journey ... the Whites have come far following a hard year the year before. They can secure 3rd spot keeping pressure on Silfield and Thetford with 5 games left all winnable.

Lessons learnt, the Whites can take on and beat any team in the league - only Silfield could do the double on us, we have played 15 winning 10 drawing 2 and have lost 3. Excellent going forward with some lovely football played ... but when taking on hard, well organised teams such as Lizards & Bulldogs we have to compete for every ball, to take the 1st tackle and to work together. Thats something to take to training and into next year - this team has huge potential playing together for the 1st time this season ...

We can and need to aspire to improve so that we can live with any team in the league. Builldogs could yet win the league we have played them 3 times winning once with a combined score of 9-10.

That said losing to Bulldogs 2-1 without a recognised mid-fielder and without subs is still a game to take some pride in

5 left all winnable - lets enjoy every game, taking pride in our wins - learning from our defeats

Dereham's man of the match - Kane Fisher for some outstanding saves.

Sunday 29th Jan DTFC v Silfield Serpents

Dereham Under 9's played Silfield Serpents laying 4th in the league - knowing it would be a tough but entertaining game, a real 6 pointer!

Silfield started the quickest scoring almost from the kick off - the Dereham Team taking a while to get in their stride but when they did they played some excellent football quick on the break passing the ball well.

Kane Fisher in goal playing behind Jack Boyce and Tommy Blowers played well to keep Silfield at bay, with Lewis Jarrett busy in mid field linking well with Todd Cantwell and Phil Denton upfront.

Phil scored a cracker to level the game before Silfield took the lead to finish the half at 1-2. Mateo Henman came on as defensive cover and Gareth Matthews at left back.  Phil scored his second to level - the game now end to end with both teams playing good football. Todd scored with a beautiful free kick that the keeper had no chance with - a candidate for goal of the season but Serpents weren't ready to give up and they scored again to level the game.

Todd scored his second after some excellent linking play with Mateo and Jack. Jack seemed to close the game out with a super strike to make it 5-3 with 5 minutes left - time for Silfield to score a 4th but not a 5th

Both teams should be proud of their efforts - every Dereham Player played their part Todd was quite superb, Phil excellent, no one works harder than Lewis, Mateo solid uncompromising shoring up the defence, Tommy and Jack with Gareth played their hearts out in defence and Kane showed [again] what an excellent keeper he has become!

This is how youth football should be played, competitive but with great spirit, a game of fast flowing football with few free kicks. We have had some excellent games this season, i recall the game against bulldogs - which for me was as good as youth football gets!

Credit should go to Hef the ref ... always fair and always aware that we are there for the kids - that they [both teams]  must enjoy the game. nb: Silfield awarded him 10 out of 10 ... as would i except he broke his watch - still 9 out of 10 was as high a mark as i have given this season at this level the ref can make or break the game.

We have another 6 pointer coming up against bulldogs - lets hope the game is as good as this one was!

The game finished Dereham 5-4 Silfield
Derehams Man of the Match Jack Boyce

Sunday 22nd Jan Swaffham v DTFC

Dereham U9 Whites travelled to Swaffham, with Dereham top of the table after 12, to play a side with 30 goals from 12 games and 5 wins.

On paper it looked good for the Whites with 90 goals and just one defeat!

Swaffham however were a very different proposition from last time out when Dereham had dominated the game.

This Swaffham side were quicker, tougher, bigger and very committed - scoring 2 early goals that set the pattern for the rest of the game. The pattern established ... Dereham pushing for goals with Swaffham quick on the counter. Dereham came in at half time 4 down.

The Whites, without 3 influential players, continued to work hard - with Kane Fisher in goal, Gareth Matthews & Tom Cockaday playing in defence behind Lewis Jarrett in midfield and Phil Denton and Danield Screen upfront assisted by Ant Corder & Daniel Foster.

The Dereham boys pushed hard at the start of the second half. Phil scored a lovely goal to give Dereham hope but this was short-lived as Swaffham broke quickly to go 5-1 then 6-1. Phil scored another consolation goal with his hat trick effort hitting the post.

The game finished 8-2 Dereham's second defeat from a 13 game series.

The Whites never stopped trying but the Swaffham boys thoroughly deserved their win which should set them up for more of the same as the season progresses.

The Whites take on Serpents next ... which should make for a good game - a 6 pointer

Man of the Match Lewis Jarrett - thoroughly deserved never stopped trying

Sunday Jan 15th DTFC v Watton Rangers
Written by Kath Matthews DTFC'S roving reporter

Within the first few minutes Watton scored, firing the Dereham team into action – Phil Denton scored a great equalising goal with every player working hard on the field.

The pressure was now on, Lewis Jarrett tirelessly working hard up and down the field, Gareth Matthews and Tommy Blowers standing strong in defence - taking no prisoners.

Some fine saves by Kane saw to it that Watton were not going to find the back of the net again. With an evenly matched side Mateo and Nikos took to the field inspiring attack and determination into the Dereham side with some excellent play by Todd and Phil seeing Lewis kicking the ball into the back of the net 2 – 1 at half time.

In the second half Watton came out fighting but the concentration and fine defence fromn Kane, Tommy & Gareth kept them wanting! The tenacity of Lewis and Mateo winning the ball in midfield saw Dereham create opportunities to unleash the pace of Phil, Nikos and Todd resulting in Dereham taking a 3 – 1 lead – thanks to Phil’s left foot.

Dereham continued to bombard the Watton Goal playing some excellent football and another goal by Phil making the final score 4 – 1.

Hat Trick Hero:  Phil Denton

Man of the Match: Todd Cantwell another excellent creative performance

Sunday Jan 8th Buckenham v DTFC

Sunday 8th Jan Dereham U9 Whites travelled to Buckenham for the 1st game of the year, laying in 3rd spot 2 points behind the leaders.

The Dereham boys started well scoring very quickly though Todd Cantwell after some lovely passing involving Lewis Jarrett & Phil Denton - the big pitch suiting the boys passing game!

The goals came quickly after that with Phil scoring the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th & 8th goal to make it 8-0 at half time with Todd and Lewis each scoring during the half.

This game wasn't just about goals, the boys were playing the best football of their season, the passing, running & shape were excellent - The defence unforgiving with Kane Fisher in goal playing behind an excellent Jack Boyce & Tom Cockaday.

Daniel Foster came on in the 2nd half scoring 2 just missing out on his hat trick, with Gareth Matthews coming on in defence  - to be fair the game was over long before the whistle blew - to Buck's credit they never stopped trying. Their goal keeper had a very good first half keeping the score to 8 making save after save.

Dereham running out 19-0 winners with Jack Boyce scoring 4 from midfield, Lewis completing his hat trick with 2 more, Todd scoring a 3rd and Phil scoring 2 more.

This was the best team performance of the season

Kane in goal maintained great concentration stopping Bucks from finding any sort of game with several excellent saves, his kicking improving with every game
Tom played well in defence during the 1st half but played his best football in the second half on the right wing with 2 excellent runs finishing with 2 great crosses resulting in 2 goals, almost scoring himself. This game would have helped restore his confidence.
Jack finding some great space off good runs always mindful of his defensive responsibilities playing his best football of the season in the 2nd half from mid-field scoring 4 times!
Lewis always busy always looking to win the ball back to make the pass an unselfish hat trick hero who deserved every one ... there are many more goals in Lewis

Sunday Dec 4th DTFC v Bulldogs - 2nd round of the Cup 2:4

Dereham entertained a table topping Bulldog team in rich form - Bulldogs having won their 1st round tie 10:0 the week before against Watton Rangers. This was always going to be a tense tight game ... both teams having played some excellent football in Dereham's 6:4 league win earlier in the season - still the best game of our season.

Dereham started the brighter scoring through Todd Cantwell after some excellent pressure and then went 2 up after Phil Denton slotted home. Bulldogs got one back through an unfortunate own goal that could have gone anywhere. Bulldogs were now applying pressure through the middle testing first a busy Lewis Jarrett and then Mateo Henman in mid field with Gareth Matthews having another good game in defence alongside Tommy Blowers, having his best game of the season, superb in defence, which together with Kane Fisher in goal, who was making some outstanding saves, managed to keep Bulldogs at bay to half time.

Half time came at 2:1

Nikos Hinnis and Tom Cockaday took their turns on the pitch but the Bulldogs were now in the ascendency their size, strength begining to show scoring 3 quite quickly - this would have finished most teams off but Dereham are a tough outfit and went looking for a 3rd having the best of the last 5 minutes. Tommy Blowers hit a hard won free kick that rattled the bar ... Todd never stopped trying to break the Bulldog's defence ... the boys ran themselves into the ground - their dissapointment obvious - this team wants to win it has got used to winning.

The Dereham boys can be proud of their efforts ... at their best this mix of U8's & U9's can take on any team in the division ... Played 10 Won 7 Drawn 2 & 2 points from the top with 1/2 the season gone.

DTFC wish Bulldogs "Good luck" for the rest of the run - keep it going
Man of the match Kane Fisher ... some outstanding goalkeeping

Sunday the 20th Watton Wanderers v Dereham.  5:7

Dereham travelled to Watton, without 2 key mid field players, to play Wanderers for the 1st time this season. Phil Denton scored Dereham's 1st after 5 mins, with Watton leveling quickly, the game moving from end to end with Todd Cantwell scoring his 1st to take Dereham 2-1 ... but not for long as Watton showing good recent form [Lost to Lizards 2-1 the week before] came back to level the game at 2-2.

Phil Denton scored again to take Dereham 3-2 ... after some nice passing involving Nikos Hinnis and Jack Boyce - the latter playing some excellent offensive football. Watton again rallied and scored to make it 3-3.

After half time Kane Fisher made a couple of excellent saves to keep Watton at bay to be fair he could not be faulted for 2 of the Watton goals - both soaring into the roof of the net.

Todd scored to make it 4-3 before Watton again equalised and then took the lead at 4-5. Dereham's defence was a tad ragged with Tom Cockaday outnumbered in defence as Dereham pushed hard to save the match.

Some of the best Dereham play followed, as it had against Brandon the previous week, with Gareth Matthews pushing hard to support both the forwards and defence - Dereham levelled with little time left through Phil who pursued a scrappy ball into the box.

The game was now all Dereham with all the boys focused and determined ... Phil broke through to score twice more to finish the game out at 7-5.

This was a gritty performance on a cold morning, the boys can take a lot of credit from this game and this season ...

Phil played some of his best football, of a very good season, with clinical finishing and some excellent control, Todd ever busy dragging defenders where ever he went - i wouldn't want to be a 9 year old defender facing these 2 - Kane perforning valiantly as ever between the sticks behind a superb Gareth and a busy Jack Boyce, who covered most of the pitch during the game which together with a hardworking Nikos & Tom made for a very good team performance.

Man of the Match Gareth Matthews
Hat Trick Hero Phil Denton 5

Sunday the 13th Brandon v Dereham. 4:4

Dereham U9 Whites travelled to Brandon, having lost their tag as the only unbeaten team in the Division the week before to an excellent "Lizards"

The game began at a furious pace with Brandon determined and very strong in the tackle, no doubt aware that they were facing the Divisions most prolific scorers. Dereham took a while to settle - the rather small & bumpy pitch not suiting Dereham's usual passing game.

Brandon scored first, with Dereham levelling quickly through Daniel Screen and then taking the lead after Daniel's second. Daniel making his debut for the Whites was competing for every ball along with Lewis Jarrett in mid field.

Shortly afterwards Brandon were adjudged to have equalised after a scrappy ball dribbled along Dereham's line before coming to rest on it. It took a few minutes for the team to recover from what looked a harsh call ...  with Derehams defence having to work hard with Tommy Blowers, Gareth, Matthews, Jack Boyce & Tom Cockaday all taking their turn.

Brandon went ahead 3-2 just before 1/2 time.

Half Time gave Dereham a chance to catch their breath and to refocus on the job to be done. The message from the coaches "forget the 1st 1/2 - its happened ... we can still win this game"

Second half Dereham played with the slope and to be fair had the better part of the play - with Todd Cantwell and Daniel coming close several times - Ant Corder playing in goal kept Dereham in with a chance protecting his goal well on rare Brandon breaks.

Dereham went 4-2 down after a scrappy own goal conceded from a corner.

The game became messy with too many free kicks too many stops  - but Dereham continued to push looking to play their way back into the game - deserving at least a draw - Todd scored to make it 3-4 with little time left - the play was all Dereham now and Lewis Jarrett who had been involved in many of the Dereham plays scored a lovely goal to draw level.

Dereham continued to press with Brandon defending in numbers, with time running out Dereham Players, Coaches and Supporters celebrated what looked to be a deserving last gasp Dereham winner to a very hard fought game ...

The goal was not given ...

The boys didn't let their heads drop and spent extra time searching for the elusive winner

The game finished 4-4 - both teams would have left the field thinking "we should have won that!"

Man of the Match Todd Cantwell

Sunday 6th Nov Dereham v Silfield Lizards.   1:6

Dereham started the game as the only unbeaten team left in the Division, having won 6 and drawn 1 of their first 7 games. Lizards on the day were simply to big to strong to quick and it has to be said to good and ran out 6-1 winners.

Kane Fisher playing in goal last weeks man of the match kept the score respectable with a couple of excellent saves, including a superb penalty save, the defenders Tom Cockaday, Gareth Matthews & Tommy Blowers worked their socks of in defence. Lewis Jarret & Mateo Henman worked tirelessly in Midfield and Todd Cantwell [Man of the match] together with Phil Denton & Nikos Hinnis tried their hardest upfront with Phil & Todd playing some lovely 1-2's that could have yielded a better return had the lizard's goal keeper not been in fine form.

Dereham at least never stopped trying and Todd scored a nice consolation taking his return to 12 for the Season from 6 games played!

Man of the Match Todd Cantwell

Sunday 30th Oct  Dereham v Litcham. 13:3

The game started at a furious pace with Reece Pease scoring his first putting Dereham 1-0 ahead - then an own goal after sustained Dereham pressure made the game 2-0 The Dereham boys were breaking in numbers soon adding a 3rd through Daniel Foster [1st goal of the season] with Reece scoring 2 more to make it 5-0. Nikos Hinnis and Gareth Matthews each scoring 1 to make it 7-0 at half time.

Litcham deservedly scored after the break before Nikos scored his 2nd and Jack Boyce his first making it 9-1 the game started to turn with Kane Fisher making two diving saves in quick succession managing, with tough tackling Tommy Blowers in front, to keep Litcham at bay.

Dereham were now playing with quick counters with Reece then Mateo Henman scoring to make it 12-1. Lewis Jarret tireless as ever in mid field scored a deserved goal to take Dereham to 13-1

Dereham were now playing with 5 camped in Litchams half ... 7 of the 9 players having scored ... to Litchams credit they scored 2 more on the break to make the final score 13-3

Dereham are top of the table, the only unbeaten team in the division playing Lizards, only a point adrift, next week in what promises to be a very exciting game

Man of the Match Kane Fisher - some excellent goal keeping

Last Black Match Report

Dereham Town Under 9’s Blacks

Dereham Town Under 9’s Black Squad travelled to Sprowston on Sunday for games against the hosts and Mulbarton.

The opening game against Sprowston was a very even affair with the defence of Samuel Green, Gareth Matthew’s, Daniel Screen and Matthew Chapman assisting Anthony Corder in the Dereham goal to keep the home side out. Dion Frary and Reece Pease were looking dangerous on the break as the first half finished 0-0.

The second half started in a similar fashion until a disputed goal gave Sprowston the lead. Dereham pushed forward for an equaliser with Dominic Scarff and Alex Tribe coming on but they conceded a late goal to lose 2-0.

The second game against Mulbarton saw Dominic and Alex start as Dereham made an impressive start. Matthew was performing heroics in his new defensive position as was Samuel who made some important tackles. The boys were clearly up for the challenge and got their reward when a well hit shot from Dion found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Anthony produced a fine double save to deny Mulbarton an equaliser as Dereham went in at half time a goal up.

The second half saw Reece and Gareth introduced to the game and from a determined run Reece was unlucky to see his shot saved. A through ball found Daniel who was denied his shot by a last ditch tackle and Alex also went close as Dereham closed the game out. The defence held firm and a superb team effort earned the lads a great 1-0 win against one of the leagues top sides.

Dereham travelled to Norwich on Sunday to play Rocklands and made a positive start with Nicholas Hollyoak, Tom Cockaday and Matthew Lyon assisting Anthony Corder in goal to keep any attacks at bay.

The midfield of Daniel Screen and Alex Tribe were battling away as was the ever busy Matthew Chapman in attack.

Dereham were playing with great determination in difficult conditions and they were unlucky to go in two nil down at half time.

An early Rocklands attack saw them take a three goal lead but the lads never gave up trying and went in search of goals themselves but unfortunately they just couldn’t break through.

Some dogged Dereham defending and some fine saves by Anthony managed to keep Rocklands from extending their lead until right at the death when they broke through to score and run out 4-0 winners.

Well done to all the players, great effort from everybody.

Men Of Match: Ant Corder and Daniel Screen.

DTFC v Taverham

Dereham Under 9’s Black were away at Thorpe Rec this weekend playing Taverham in the first game. Dereham started the game the brighter of the two team with a few half chances early on, one from R.Pease which the keeper saved well and M.Chapman’s first time shot going just pass the far post. Just before half time on a large pitch Dereham’s defence was standing firm with N.Holloaks and J.Boyce making some great challenges to protect A.Corder in Goal. The three midfielders of A.Tribe, D.Scaff and R,Pease were working really well up and down the pitch. Dereham now pushed for the win in the second half pushed C.Hull up front to support M.Chapman, this was working well and lead to a few more good chances. It was going to take something special to beat A.Corder in the Dereham goal and unfortunately for the travelling Dereham fans that is what the Taverham goal was a great strike from outside the area which hit the underside of the cross bar. 1-0 was how it ended, but special praise must go to all the Dereham players who work well all game and were unlucky with the result.

Man of the Match: M.Chapman

DTFC v Thorpe

Dereham Under 9’s Black second game of the day was against the home team, Thorpe. Who had only just lost to the league leaders Hellesdon in the early game. Dereham know they were going to have a hard game, started really well with every player working hard and as a team. The first chance of the game was started by a good run down the right wing from J.Boyce who passed inside to M.Chapman who’s right foot first time shot wriggled under the Thorpe keeper. Dereham kept the lead and went in at half time 0-1 up. The second half was a played in the same high tempo of the first half with the home team pushing for the equaliser. With their new belief and the bags of sweets each if they win, promised by Maxine Corder, the Blacks were not going the let Thorpe back into the game, every single player working hard and tracked back, Thorpe worked well and played some great football, the game was played in good spirit, towards the end it was real end to end open game with Dereham holding on to the M.Chapman first half goal. This is the blacks first win in the league and if they play like this again it won’t be the last. Well done….

Man of the Match: Every Player.

Dereham Town U9 Blacks.

Rockland v Dereham 5-0

Dereham travelled to play Rockland on Sunday where they were beaten by a strong well-organised team.

Dereham lined up with Anthony Corder in goal, Tommy Blowers, Daniel Screen, Alex Tribe, Dominic Scarf, Reece Pease and Matthew Chapman, with Connor Hull as substitute.

Rockland piled on some early pressure and were not afraid to shoot when given a sight of goal but Dereham hung on and went close themselves with a couple of swift counter attacks by Daniel and Reece. Dereham were under constant pressure and despite their best efforts they went in 3-0 down at half time.

The second half started much the same as the first with Dereham forced to defend and having to rely on counter attacks to try and force themselves back into the game. Unfortunately they couldn’t find a way through the solid Rockland defence and conceded two more well taken goals to make the final score 5-0.

Dereham man of the match was Tommy Blowers.

Dereham v Old Catton 2-5

Dereham Town under 9 Blacks travelled to Old Catton to play the hosts and Silfield. Dereham fell behind to Old Catton in their opening game from the first attack but soon settled and Reece Pease went close with a good effort. Nicholas Hollyoak was having a superb game in defence assisted by Alex Tribe, Samuel Green and Anthony Corder in goal, with Daniel Screen and Reece in midfield feeding Matthew Chapman up front.

Dereham’s effort was rewarded when Matthew picked up a loose ball and his pass found Reece whose great finish made it 1-1. Unfortunately a swift break by Old Catton saw them take a 2-1 lead into half time.

Dominic Scarf replaced Daniel but some good early pressure by Old Catton saw them go 3-1 up. Good play by Reece and Matthew forced a corner from which Samuel went close but Dereham conceded two further goals to go 5-1 down. The boys continued to push forward and Matthew scored a second for Dereham to make the final score 5-2.

Man of the match Nicholas Hollyoak.

Dereham v Silfield 2-2

Dereham looked a different team in their second game against Silfield and a determined early run and shot by Dominic almost gave Dereham the lead. Silfield were also determined and a swift attack saw them hit the post, but some fine saves by Anthony kept things level. Nicholas, Alex and Samuel were defending well but a loose ball broke for Silfield who took a 1-0 lead. Reece had a good effort blocked but this is how it stayed until half time. The second half saw Dereham under early pressure but with Nicholas solid at the back they held out and took the game to Silfield. Matthew who had come on just before half time was battling away up front and it was his pass that found Daniel who produced a great finish for the equaliser. Both teams went in search of victory and both keepers were performing well, especially Anthony who was pulling off some outstanding saves. Matthew had a solo effort saved but a well struck shot saw Silfield go 2-1 up in what was proving to be a very entertaining game. However Dereham wouldn’t be denied and as full time approached Matthew produced a fantastic finish to give Dereham a well deserved 2-2 draw.
