William Creed

In the spring of 1942 Bill was posted to the 38 Squadron at Shallufa in North Africa as a WO/AG.On
July 23 ,1942 he joined P/O Ross Bertran's crew conducting night time
bombing and torpedo attacks on enemy shipping with Wellington aircraft.He
flew 18 missons with P/O Bertran and the 38 Squadron including a dusk attack
on Tobruk Harbor sinking Rommel's last supply ship on October 26,1942. P/O
Bertran was awarded the DFC for this attack.
On January 21 ,1943 Bill stayed with P/O Bertran as the posted to the 221
Squadron for their second tour of duty.They left Shallufa and took up new
quarters in Malta.On their fourth night time mission out of Malta on
February 2,1942 they went missing in the harbour area of Crotone,Italy.

Frederick Cameron ANDERSON, C/3409, Flight Lieutenant, Royal Canadian Air Force, 221 Squadron, died 2nd February 1943, aged 25 years. Son of Frederick T., and Ethel Maud Anderson, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

 

 

Harold ROWSON, 51208, Pilot Officer, Royal Air Force, 221 Squadron, died 2nd February 1943, aged 21 years. Son of William F. and Philippa C. Rowson, of Woolwich, London.

 

 

Norman JONES, 1065998, Sergeant, Royal Air Force (V.R.), 221 Squadron, died 2nd February 1943, aged 32 years. Son of William and Ann Jones, of Manchester.

 

 

William George CREED, 1314495, Sergeant, Royal Air Force (V.R.), 221 Squadron, died 2nd February 1943, aged 22 years. Son of Lionel and Lilian Creed, of Upper Clatford, Hampshire.

His body was never found, Him and his crew are remembered with on honour on the malta RAF memorial. He is pictured on the right
