
Although my Great Great Great Grandad did not serve during either of the World Wars i feel that his military service should be recognised on this site, I have his original discharge cirtificate which give lots of info.
He Enlisted in Winchester on the 15 March 1871 for 46th Brigade at the age of 18 years old. He spent his military career in the 1st Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. He was passed onto the reserve on the completion of his military service, he by this time had served 11 years and 332 days and had been awarded the Egyptian Medal and was in possetion of two good conduct badges as his conduct and character was stated as "Very Good".

Hair was light brown
Trade was labourer
no scars
Discharged in Southampton.

A Short history of his role during the Egypt intervention
The battalion was sent to Egypt where it would take part in the Battle of Abu Klea filling the breach of a square broken by the Dervishes. I think what the Battalion was most well know for was the unsuccessful attempt to save General Gordon and his garrison at Khartourm arriving just days late.
