How to Make a Fan Using the Preset Triangle

This is just a guide or technique. What you make with it, is solely owned by you.

If this in any way resembles someone else's work, please notifiy me (Grace) and I will take it down.

Supplies - Paint Shop Pro, any version. Could be possibly be done in Photo Shop

A rounded lace doily or something similar... or no lace at all.

2 fills the look good together, or two colors

                    Preset Shapes, Pen Tool, Brightness/Contrast

1.  File/New/New Image

700 X 700 Pixel, 72.000 Resolution, Raster Background, Transparent, OK ( I want plenty of room!)

2.  Preset Shape set to Triangle, Create as Vector and Anti-alias CHECKED

3.  Materials palette - Foreground null, Background dark fill/color

4.  Draw out a rather small triangle as this will be the lower part of the fan

5.  Objects/Align/Center in Canvas... Image/Flip

6.  Click on Pen Tool and those annoying little nodes show up!

At the top, we are going to add one.

7.  Hold down the "Ctrl" key and click at the top, in the middle and add a node.

8.  Click on the node you just added, and pull it down just a little bit.

9.  Image/Convert to Raster Layer

10.Click on the bottom layer ( layer one)

11. Change your Background to your other material or color

12.Preset Shape set to Triangle and draw out another one trying to stay within the size of the bottom part.

    Objects/Align/Center in Canvas, Image/Flip

13. Pen tool again... Hold down the "Ctrl" key, with the cursor, add a node to the center of the new triangle.

14. Right click on that node, Node Type/Symmetric. We want to pull this up and round it off just a bit.

You may have to pull the arrows a bit to round it out.

15. Layers/Merge/Merge Visible

16. I use the Script: Center Layer that comes with PSP. This is very handy! Just click on the little blue arrow and watch the magic!!

    Once you have it centered...

17. Click on the Selection tool, then Custom Selection then enter these numbers

Only if you're using the same size image I'm using.

***Note - did you know that when you're using the text tool, you can enter some text, apply, then apply more without converting to raster layer??** Pretty darn cool!! I know... I strayed. :-)

18.We have our selection made, now we are going to use the Brightness/Contrast

Adjust/Brightness and Contrast/Brightness/Contrast - Play with the settings. I made my left side lighter and depends on taste and what colors you're using

19. Selections/Select None

This is what I have so far

20.I'm gonna add some lace... I just put it under the basic fan, centered it and erased the remainder

Doesn't show very well. :-( Sorta' looks like a May basket.

21. Image/Canvas Size - I increased my canvas to 800 X 800 pixels. This gives us room to duplicate and use the deform tool to rotate to the left or right

depending on your taste.

22. Duplicate as many time as you want using the same process as above. You might want to use the Sharpen on the duplicated ones. They tend to lose their clarity after so many times.

23. If your finished... Layers/Merge/Merge Visible

24.You can add a fancy brad, bow, ribbon...

25. Click on the Pen tool... AGAIN! set at line width 10.00, Point to Point

26. Start on either side, click once, then to the bottom of your fan, then click on the opposite side.

Don't know how that silly eraser circle got in there... trying to steal the show!!

Anyway, fit the "boards/support", (don't know what to call it) and I used an inner bevel on it.

27. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel with these settings

28. When you have what you want and you haven't merged, then merge visible and you're done!

I probably should have made my pieces a bit smaller, but then that's life!

Thanks for trying my tutorial!
